What

  • Parse /execute and /batch HTTP request bodies with org.json instead of Gson in SQLHTTPServer.
  • Centralize SQL param conversion in HttpRequestJsonParams (null, bool, string, number truncation, nested objects).
  • Remove com.google.code.gson:gson from android/build.gradle.
  • Add JVM unit tests for param parsing semantics.
  • Pin all GitHub Actions uses: references to latest major tags (no SHAs or patch versions).

Why

  • Drop an extra dependency; Android already ships org.json.
  • Keep HTTP SQL param behavior unchanged for existing clients.
  • Align CI workflows with repository action pinning policy.

How

  • JSONObject / JSONArray for request parsing (malformed JSON still surfaces as request errors via existing exception handling).
  • Number params use Gson-compatible getAsLong logic (parse as long, else truncate via double) with getAsDouble fallback on NumberFormatException.
  • Object params still coerce field values with getAsString-equivalent semantics.
  • Workflow updates: actions/checkout@v7, actions/setup-node@v7, actions/setup-java@v6, softprops/action-gh-release@v3, patch/SHA pins removed.

Testing

  • HttpRequestJsonParamsTest (null, bool, string, int, decimal truncation, object fields, skipped arrays, malformed JSON).
  • CI: bun run verify (Android Gradle build/test, iOS, web).

Not Tested

  • Live device HTTP integration against a running SQLHTTPServer instance (covered indirectly by existing plugin flows).

Review in cubic

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Android HTTP requests handle JSON parameters—including nulls, booleans, strings, numbers, and flat object values—with more consistent results. Decimal numbers retain compatible conversion behavior; unsupported nested values remain unavailable as request parameters.
  • Chores
    • Updated the tooling used for automated builds, tests, releases, publishing, and deployments. Workflow triggers, build steps, and configured Node.js versions remain unchanged.

Parse execute/batch request bodies with org.json and centralize
param conversion so numeric truncation matches former Gson getAsLong
behavior. Add unit tests and drop the gson dependency.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

GitHub Actions workflows update action references. Android HTTP handlers now parse request bodies with org.json and use a dedicated converter for request parameters. New Robolectric tests cover parameter conversion and parsing.

Build, version-bump, example deployment, release notification, beta, and test workflows update action references. Configured Node versions and workflow steps remain unchanged.

Android HTTP parameter parsing

Adds a converter for supported JSON parameter values, raw JSON elements, and numeric literals. Tests cover conversion, number handling, malformed JSON, and unsupported values. Android test configuration enables resources and adds Robolectric. The Gson implementation dependency is removed.
HTTP request parsing integration

Execute and batch handlers parse request data with org.json and delegate parameter conversion to the helper. Batch processing pairs each parsed operation with its raw JSON element. The server removes its Gson field and imports.

Merge Risk | 🟡 Moderate · up to cb0fd

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to cb0fd

The deployment actions are no longer pinned to exact revisions before a token-backed publish. Restore reviewed commit pins before merging, or explicitly accept that supply-chain risk.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to cb0fd

The HTTP parsing change retains the existing authentication and database-selection controls. However, the production example-app deployment replaces fixed action revisions with movable tags, weakening control over code that executes before the deployment credential is used.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · security · inferred: The example-app deployment removes immutable references for checkout and Bun setup. An attacker controlling either upstream action or its movable tag could change code executed in the deployment job without a repository change, enabling artifact tampering or interception of the later deployment credential.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The changed deployment trust path directly exposes the example-app build and its production upload. CAPGO_TOKEN's broader service or application scope is not established. The separate HTTP SQL boundary exposes all currently connected databases to a valid server-token holder, but that scope is unchanged.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — An attacker able to replace code resolved by either movable deployment-action tag could execute it during a subsequent authorized run, tamper with the build or upload command, or persist into the later token-bearing step. This is a newly weakened supply-chain control, not evidence of actual upstream compromise or an unauthenticated HTTP attack.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The deployment workflow retains contents-read permission, persist-credentials: false, and step-scoped CAPGO_TOKEN assignment. These constrain explicit credential exposure but do not create separate execution isolation between earlier actions and deployment.
  • observed — The HTTP server rejects missing or incorrect bearer tokens before database lookup, rejects unknown database keys, and permits unauthenticated OPTIONS only without routing it to a database sink. The converter does not bypass these controls.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — HTTP work remains serialized through a single executor. Waiting-thread interruption returns an error without cancelling the submitted task, while server shutdown requests executor interruption. Neither version adds request deduplication or automatic compensation, so ambiguous completion and repeated-write handling remain existing caller responsibilities rather than new recovery guarantees.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Retain reviewed full-commit action references in the credential-bearing deployment workflow, updating those references deliberately when adopting newer action versions.

extractJsonArrayAfterKey now keeps scanning and returns the last matching
array so raw literal extraction matches org.json duplicate-key semantics.
Add unit test for duplicate params keys.

🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Continue past an earlier non-array duplicate key.

For {"params":null,"params":[1]}, the parsed request selects the last params value, but this check throws on the first value. The /execute handler therefore rejects a request whose selected params value is an array. Scan past earlier duplicate values, then validate the final matching value. Add this case beside the existing duplicate-key test.
