feat: optional native pull-to-refresh on iOS and Android - #81
Conversation
Add setPullToRefresh({ enabled, tintColor, backgroundColor }),
endPullToRefresh() and a pullToRefresh event. Off by default; nothing
touches the WebView until enabled, and disabling restores it.
iOS: simultaneous pan gesture + system activity indicator below the
navbar, with a haptic when armed. Android: WebView wrapped in a
SwipeRefreshLayout with the spinner offset below the navbar. Both use
the page-reported scroll offset so inner scroll roots (#app,
[data-cap-native-navigation-scroll]) only refresh from the top.

Identify the scroll root in each report. Both implementations reduce reports from multiple roots to one latest offset. A zero report from one root can permit refresh while another root remains scrolled.

Initialize scroll state before enabling the gesture. Both handlers assume an inner scroll root starts at zero. If an app enables refresh while that root is already scrolled, neither scroll bridge reports its current offset until another scroll event occurs. A downward swipe can then refresh away from the top.

Do not reset an active refresh during inset updates.
NativeNavigationPlugin.updateInsetsAndNotify() calls this method on every inset update. SwipeRefreshLayout.setProgressViewOffset() resets the indicator and sets its refreshing state to false, even when the offset has not changed. A navbar or inset update during data loading therefore stops the spinner before endPullToRefresh(). Apply the offset only when it changes, and preserve the active refresh when it must change. Keep the indicator with its intended WebView host.
On iOS 26 system-tab hosting, NativeNavigationPlugin.liftWebViewOverlaysAboveSystemTabs moves eligible WebView subviews into the tab container. This indicator is an eligible subview. After hosting, layoutSpinner still positions it in WebView coordinates and calls webView.bringSubviewToFront(spinner), although the indicator is no longer a WebView subview. Exclude the indicator from that move, or update its host and coordinate conversion when hosting changes. (developer.apple.com)

End the refresh when data loading fails.
If reloadData() rejects, this example never calls endPullToRefresh(). The spinner then remains active. Put the completion call in finally so the documented workflow also handles failed requests.

ScreenRecording_10-17-2026.09-31-48_1.MP4One thing I noticed on iOS: the pull-to-refresh behavior feels a bit off. |
Summary
Opt-in native pull-to-refresh. Off by default: nothing is attached to the WebView until
setPullToRefresh({ enabled: true }), andenabled: falserestores the original view setup.UIActivityIndicatorView, placed below the native navbar, with a haptic when the pull arms.UIRefreshControlwas tried first, but it never fires when the page scrolls an inner element (#app, Ionic content), which is the usual Capacitor setup.SwipeRefreshLayoutonly while enabled (new dependencyandroidx.swiperefreshlayout:1.1.0, overridable withandroidxSwipeRefreshLayoutVersion). The spinner sits below the status bar and navbar.window,#app,[data-cap-native-navigation-scroll]), so the gesture only starts when the list is at the top.
