Summary

This PR adds test coverage for mobile-related functionality in the PageSpace app.

Note: After merging master (commit cdae15d), the iOS bridge source files (auth-bridge.ts, lifecycle.ts, ui-setup.ts, etc.) were removed as they were superseded by web-side Capacitor integration. The corresponding iOS test files have been removed accordingly.

Remaining Tests (Web App Mobile Functionality)

Capacitor Utilities:

  • apps/web/src/lib/__tests__/capacitor-bridge.test.ts - Platform detection (isCapacitorApp, getPlatform, isIOS, isAndroid), platform info injection, safe native function wrapper (32 tests)
  • apps/web/src/hooks/__tests__/useCapacitor.test.ts - React hook for platform detection with SSR safety (15 tests)

Mobile API Routes:

  • apps/web/src/app/api/auth/__tests__/mobile-signup.test.ts - User registration, password validation, drive creation, email verification, device token creation, rate limiting (32 tests)
  • apps/web/src/app/api/auth/__tests__/mobile-login.test.ts - Mobile login flow tests
  • apps/web/src/app/api/auth/__tests__/mobile-refresh.test.ts - Device token validation/rotation, session renewal, rate limiting, device ID verification
  • apps/web/src/app/api/auth/__tests__/mobile-oauth-google-exchange.test.ts - ID token verification, user creation/linking, dual rate limiting, CSRF token generation

Test Plan

  • All new tests pass locally
  • Lint and TypeScript checks pass
  • CI checks all green

145-158: Align mocked IDs with the CUID2 policy.
mockRandomUUID currently returns a UUID-shaped value; consider returning a CUID2-shaped string so test-generated IDs stay consistent with repo policy.

♻️ Suggested adjustment
-const mockRandomUUID = vi.fn(() => 'mock-uuid-12345678-1234-1234-1234-123456789012');
+const mockRandomUUID = vi.fn(
+  () => 'c1d2e3f4g5h6i7j8k9l0m1n2o3p4q5r6'
+);
Based on learnings, keep ID mocks CUID2-aligned.
apps/web/src/app/api/auth/__tests__/mobile-refresh.test.ts (1)

17-86: Add explicit types to mock parameters.
The eq, hashToken, and getTokenPrefix mocks rely on implicit parameter typing; please annotate them (e.g., unknown / string) to avoid implicit any.

♻️ Suggested typing tweaks
-  eq: vi.fn((field, value) => ({ field, value })),
+  eq: vi.fn((field: unknown, value: unknown) => ({ field, value })),
@@
-  hashToken: vi.fn((token) => `hashed-${token}`),
-  getTokenPrefix: vi.fn((token) => token.substring(0, 8)),
+  hashToken: vi.fn((token: string) => `hashed-${token}`),
+  getTokenPrefix: vi.fn((token: string) => token.substring(0, 8)),
As per coding guidelines, avoid `any` in TS.
apps/ios/src/__tests__/ui-setup.test.ts (1)

25-33: Clear mock keyboard listeners between tests to avoid leakage.

mockKeyboardListeners is shared across tests; without a reset, listener counts can accumulate and make assertions flaky.

Suggested change
  beforeEach(async () => {
    vi.resetModules();
    uiSetup = await import('../ui-setup');

    // Reset DOM state
    document.documentElement.className = '';
    document.body.className = '';
    document.body.style.cssText = '';
+   mockKeyboardListeners.clear();
  });
apps/web/src/app/api/auth/__tests__/mobile-signup.test.ts (1)

45-47: Use a valid CUID2 string in the createId mock.

The current mock includes hyphens and doesn’t match the CUID2 format used across the codebase. Using a valid lowercase alphanumeric CUID2 improves realism and prevents future format checks from breaking tests. Based on learnings, please keep mocked IDs CUID2-compliant.

Suggested change
 vi.mock('@paralleldrive/cuid2', () => ({
-  createId: vi.fn(() => 'test-user-id-123'),

apps/web/src/app/api/auth/__tests__/mobile-signup.test.ts (2)

240-251: Consider strengthening drive creation assertion.

The test verifies db.insert was called but doesn't confirm it was called with the drives table or validate the drive data structure. This could pass even if drive creation logic changes incorrectly.

♻️ Optional: More specific assertion
it('creates Getting Started drive for new user', async () => {
  // ... existing setup ...

  await POST(request);

  // More specific assertion
  expect(db.insert).toHaveBeenCalledWith(
    expect.objectContaining({ /* drives table reference */ })
  );
  // Or track insert calls more granularly
});

740-753: Same observation: assertion could be more specific.

Similar to the drive creation test, this only verifies that db.insert was called, not that AI settings were specifically initialized with Ollama defaults.

apps/web/src/app/api/auth/__tests__/mobile-refresh.test.ts (1)

470-486: Potential test intent mismatch with x-forwarded-for header.

The test sets 'x-forwarded-for': '10.0.0.1' in the request headers (line 475), but the assertion expects 'refresh:device:ip:192.168.1.1' (line 483). This works because getClientIP is mocked to always return '192.168.1.1', but the test's intent is unclear—is it verifying the rate limit key format, or that the IP extraction works correctly?

If the intent is to verify IP extraction honors the header, the mock should be updated to return the header value. If verifying just the key format, the header isn't needed.

♻️ Option 1: Remove misleading header
 it('uses refresh:device:ip rate limit key', async () => {
   const request = new Request('http://localhost/api/auth/mobile/refresh', {
     method: 'POST',
-    headers: {
-      'Content-Type': 'application/json',
-      'x-forwarded-for': '10.0.0.1',
-    },
+    headers: { 'Content-Type': 'application/json' },
     body: JSON.stringify(validRefreshPayload),
   });
♻️ Option 2: Make mock return header value
it('uses refresh:device:ip rate limit key', async () => {
  (getClientIP as Mock).mockReturnValue('10.0.0.1');

  // ... request with x-forwarded-for: '10.0.0.1' ...

  expect(checkDistributedRateLimit).toHaveBeenCalledWith(
    'refresh:device:ip:10.0.0.1',
    DISTRIBUTED_RATE_LIMITS.REFRESH
  );
});
apps/web/src/hooks/__tests__/useCapacitor.test.ts (2)

202-212: SSR safety test could be more comprehensive.

The current SSR test only verifies initial state defaults but doesn't actually test the typeof window === 'undefined' path since jsdom provides window. Consider adding a note that true SSR behavior is implicitly tested through the capacitor-bridge.test.ts SSR tests, or documenting this limitation.

252-287: Consider consolidating duplicate test coverage with capacitor-bridge.test.ts.

The isCapacitorApp and getPlatform utility function tests here largely duplicate coverage in apps/web/src/lib/__tests__/capacitor-bridge.test.ts. If these utilities are re-exported from useCapacitor.ts, a simpler integration test verifying the re-exports work correctly would reduce maintenance burden.

apps/ios/src/__tests__/ui-setup.test.ts (1)

366-375: Consider adding input validation for negative keyboard heights.

The test documents that negative heights are passed through to CSS. While this matches "plugin behavior," it could result in broken layouts. Consider whether the production code should clamp negative values to 0, or at minimum add a comment explaining why this behavior is acceptable.

apps/web/src/lib/__tests__/capacitor-bridge.test.ts (1)

363-373: Document expected behavior for non-boolean truthy values.

The test verifies that 'yes' (a truthy string) causes isCapacitorApp() to return true. While this tests JavaScript's truthiness, it's worth noting whether this is intentional API behavior or an implementation detail that could change. Consider adding a comment clarifying intent.

apps/ios/src/__tests__/lifecycle.test.ts (3)

29-72: Navigation tracking setup is complex but effective.

The Proxy-based location tracking accurately captures href assignments for assertion. The dual Object.defineProperty calls (lines 36-46 then 65-69) could be simplified into a single setup, but the current approach works correctly.

♻️ Optional simplification
  beforeEach(async () => {
    vi.resetModules();

    // Reset navigation tracking
    navigatedTo = null;

-   // Setup window.location tracking
-   Object.defineProperty(window, 'location', {
-     value: {
-       href: 'http://localhost:3000',
-       origin: 'http://localhost:3000',
-       pathname: '/',
-       search: '',
-       hash: '',
-     },
-     writable: true,
-     configurable: true,
-   });
-
    // Track href assignments
    const locationProxy = new Proxy(
      { href: 'http://localhost:3000', origin: 'http://localhost:3000' },
      {
        set(target, prop, value) {
          if (prop === 'href') {
            navigatedTo = value as string;
          }
          target[prop as keyof typeof target] = value;
          return true;
        },
        get(target, prop) {
          return target[prop as keyof typeof target];
        },
      }
    );

    Object.defineProperty(window, 'location', {
      value: locationProxy,
      writable: true,
      configurable: true,
    });

    lifecycle = await import('../lifecycle');
  });

398-406: Null handler test uses type assertion to bypass TypeScript.

The cast null as unknown as (url: string) => void works but is awkward. If the production API should support clearing the handler, consider updating the type signature to accept null | undefined. Otherwise, document why this test exists.

480-503: Device ID integration test aligns with CUID2 requirements.

The test verifies deviceId is included in stored session data. Based on learnings about CUID2 format enforcement, consider adding an assertion that the deviceId matches the expected format (^[a-z][a-z0-9]{1,31}$).

♻️ Add CUID2 format validation
      await vi.waitFor(() => {
        const stored = mockKeychainStore.get('pagespace_session');
        expect(stored).toBeTruthy();
        const parsed = JSON.parse(stored!);
        expect(parsed.deviceId).toBeTruthy();
+ // Verify deviceId follows CUID2 format (lowercase alphanumeric starting with letter)
+       expect(parsed.deviceId).toMatch(/^[a-z][a-z0-9]{1,31}$/);
      });

Based on learnings about CUID2 format enforcement.

Comment thread apps/ios/src/__tests__/lifecycle.test.ts Outdated
Actionable:
- lifecycle.test.ts: document backend idempotency for concurrent deep
  links and verify each unique auth code is sent separately
- mobile-signup.test.ts: assert db.insert targets drives and
  userAiSettings tables specifically, not just that insert was called
- mobile-refresh.test.ts: remove misleading x-forwarded-for header from
  rate limit key test (IP comes from mocked getClientIP)

Nitpicks:
- lifecycle.test.ts: remove redundant Object.defineProperty call,
  use null! instead of awkward cast for clearing handler, add string
  type and length assertions for device ID
- useCapacitor.test.ts: note jsdom SSR limitation, remove 10 duplicate
  utility function tests already covered in capacitor-bridge.test.ts
- ui-setup.test.ts: document that negative keyboard heights pass
  through unclamped by design (validation belongs at plugin layer)
- capacitor-bridge.test.ts: document intentional Boolean() coercion
  for truthy non-boolean isNativePlatform return values

16-36: Consider extracting shared mock utilities to reduce duplication.

The MockCapacitor interface and setupCapacitorMock/removeCapacitorMock functions are duplicated verbatim in capacitor-bridge.test.ts. Consider extracting these to a shared test utility file (e.g., __tests__/utils/capacitor-mocks.ts) to keep tests DRY and ensure consistent mock behavior.

269-272: Tautological assertion provides no value.

The if block always enters (since we set up iOS mock), and expect(true).toBe(true) always passes. This doesn't actually test conditional rendering behavior.

💡 Consider testing actual conditional logic
-        // Example: Show iOS-specific UI
-        if (result.current.isIOS) {
-          expect(true).toBe(true); // iOS-specific behavior
-        }
+ // Verify the hook provides the correct values for conditional rendering
+        expect(result.current.isIOS).toBe(true);
+        expect(result.current.isAndroid).toBe(false);

Or remove this test entirely since line 84-95 already covers iOS detection thoroughly.

apps/web/src/lib/__tests__/capacitor-bridge.test.ts (2)

378-391: Concurrency test doesn't actually test concurrency.

These are synchronous functions wrapped in Promise.resolve(), which doesn't create actual concurrent execution. The calls will still execute sequentially before Promise.all resolves.

If the intent is to verify the functions are safe to call simultaneously, the current test achieves that. However, the test name "handles concurrent platform checks" is misleading since no true concurrency exists here.

💡 Suggested rename for clarity
-    it('handles concurrent platform checks', async () => {
+    it('returns consistent results when called in sequence', async () => {

Or simply use synchronous assertions:

-    it('handles concurrent platform checks', async () => {
-      setupCapacitorMock(true, 'ios');
-      vi.resetModules();
-      capacitorBridge = await import('../capacitor-bridge');
-
-      const results = await Promise.all([
-        Promise.resolve(capacitorBridge.isCapacitorApp()),
-        Promise.resolve(capacitorBridge.getPlatform()),
-        Promise.resolve(capacitorBridge.isIOS()),
-        Promise.resolve(capacitorBridge.isAndroid()),
-      ]);
-
-      expect(results).toEqual([true, 'ios', true, false]);
-    });
+    it('returns consistent results across all platform utilities', async () => {
+      setupCapacitorMock(true, 'ios');
+      vi.resetModules();
+      capacitorBridge = await import('../capacitor-bridge');
+
+      expect(capacitorBridge.isCapacitorApp()).toBe(true);
+      expect(capacitorBridge.getPlatform()).toBe('ios');
+      expect(capacitorBridge.isIOS()).toBe(true);
+      expect(capacitorBridge.isAndroid()).toBe(false);
+    });

102-115: Consider wrapping window restoration in try/finally for test isolation.

If an assertion fails before globalThis.window = windowBackup, the window won't be restored, potentially affecting subsequent tests.

💡 Safer pattern with try/finally
     it('returns false when window is undefined', async () => {
       const windowBackup = globalThis.window;
-      // `@ts-expect-error` - intentionally testing undefined window
-      delete globalThis.window;
-
-      vi.resetModules();
-      capacitorBridge = await import('../capacitor-bridge');
-
-      expect(capacitorBridge.isCapacitorApp()).toBe(false);
-
-      globalThis.window = windowBackup;
+      try {
+        // `@ts-expect-error` - intentionally testing undefined window
+        delete globalThis.window;
+
+        vi.resetModules();
+        capacitorBridge = await import('../capacitor-bridge');
+
+        expect(capacitorBridge.isCapacitorApp()).toBe(false);
+      } finally {
+        globalThis.window = windowBackup;
+      }
     });

This applies to all SSR safety tests in this file (lines 102-115, 162-175, 251-262, 280-291).

In `@apps/ios/src/__tests__/lifecycle.test.ts` around lines 474 - 499, Update the
test "includes device ID in stored session" to assert the deviceId matches the
CUID2 format: after parsing stored (parsed.deviceId) add a regex check enforcing
the CUID2 contract (e.g. starts with 'ck' and the expected character groups) so
the device ID generated by getOrCreateDeviceId (triggered via
lifecycle.setupAppLifecycle() and simulateDeepLink(...)) is validated as a CUID2
rather than just a non-empty string.

The iOS bridge source files (auth-bridge.ts, lifecycle.ts, ui-setup.ts, etc.)
were deleted in master commit cdae15d as "dead code superseded by web-side
Capacitor integration". This removes the corresponding test files that now
have nothing to test.

Web-side mobile tests (capacitor-bridge.test.ts, useCapacitor.test.ts, and
mobile API route tests) remain valid and pass.

Update: iOS Tests Removed

The iOS source files (auth-bridge.ts, lifecycle.ts, ui-setup.ts, index.ts, keychain-plugin.ts) were deleted in master commit cdae15d as part of fix(ios): add missing Capacitor dependencies - the commit message noted they were "dead code superseded by web-side Capacitor integration."

After merging master into this PR branch, the iOS test files became orphaned (testing non-existent code), so they have been removed in commit b40b6b0.

Remaining valid tests:

  • apps/web/src/lib/__tests__/capacitor-bridge.test.ts (32 tests) ✅
  • apps/web/src/hooks/__tests__/useCapacitor.test.ts (15 tests) ✅
  • apps/web/src/app/api/auth/__tests__/mobile-signup.test.ts (32 tests) ✅
  • apps/web/src/app/api/auth/__tests__/mobile-login.test.ts ✅
  • apps/web/src/app/api/auth/__tests__/mobile-refresh.test.ts ✅
  • apps/web/src/app/api/auth/__tests__/mobile-oauth-google-exchange.test.ts ✅

The review comments on deleted iOS test files are now moot.

Remove @capacitor/browser from devDependencies.

The package is already listed in dependencies and is used at runtime in the production Capacitor app (for native iOS/Android environments). It should not be duplicated in devDependencies.

Since the iOS test files were removed (source code was deleted in master),
remove the test scripts and test-related devDependencies from package.json
to prevent CI failures.
