A CLA makes the ownership of contributions explicit, so contributors and the project share a clear understanding of how the code can be used. By signing, you:

- Keep the right to reuse your own code.
- Grant us a copyright license to include and share it within our projects.
CLAs are standard practice across major open source projects including those under the Apache Software Foundation and the Linux Foundation. Ours is based on the Apache Software Foundation's CLA. Most importantly, it would enable us to relicense the project under a more permissive license in the future, giving the project and its community greater flexibility.

**: IMPORTANT: Only comment on issues directly introduced by this PR's code changes.
Treat AGENTS.md as mandatory repository policy, not optional style guidance.
Flag PR changes that violate AGENTS.md even when the code is otherwise functional.
In particular, enforce architecture boundaries, dtype/device/memory rules,
interface contracts, import style, no unnecessary try/except blocks, no inline
imports, no outbound internet paths in core ComfyUI, and narrow scoped fixes.
Prefer direct findings over suggestions when a rule is violated. Only ignore
AGENTS.md when it clearly conflicts with a newer explicit maintainer instruction
in the PR.
Do NOT flag pre-existing issues in code that was merely moved, re-indented,
de-indented, or reformatted without logic changes. If code appears in the diff
only due to whitespace or structural reformatting (e.g., removing awith:block),
treat it as unchanged. Contributors should not feel obligated to address
pre-existing issues outside the scope of their contribution.

get_save_image_path() picks the next counter by comparing existing filenames
against the prefix. map_filename() sized that prefix with
os.path.basename(filename_prefix)
while the caller compares against
os.path.basename(os.path.normpath(filename_prefix))
For a prefix that ends in a separator the two disagree: basename('out/') is the
empty string, so no existing file ever matched, the counter stayed at 1, and
every save overwrote the previous one.
Three saves with prefix 'out/', before and after:
before out_00001_.png out_00001_.png out_00001_.png
after out_00001_.png out_00002_.png out_00003_.png
map_filename() now normalizes the same way the comparison does. No behaviour
change for a prefix without a trailing separator: normpath is a no-op there.

Good catch on the counter continuation — that was a real hole in the test, not a nitpick. Comparing Added in Failing cases on The CLA is with the repo owner — I have flagged it and will post the signature line once they confirm. |
…nter The review is right that comparing 'out' and 'out/' on an empty directory does not prove anything: both return 1 there, so that assertion passes with the bug still present. The bug resets the counter, so the switch between the two prefix forms has to happen with files already on disk. Three saves as 'out' then three as 'out/' must number 1..6, not 1..3 twice. Fails on master (4 failing cases now, was 3).

Problem
If
filename_prefixends in a path separator, every save silently overwrites the previous one.get_save_image_path()picks the next counter by matching existing filenames against the prefix. The two halves of that comparison normalize differently:os.path.basename('out/')is the empty string, soprefixis one character of each existing filename and never equalsfilename.max()over an empty sequence raisesValueError, the handler setscounter = 1, and the node writesout_00001_.pngagain — on top of the file it wrote last time.Nothing errors. The graph succeeds, the node reports a saved image, and the previous render is gone.
Three saves, same prefix, on
master(76135e5):filename_prefixoutout_00001_.png,out_00002_.png,out_00003_.pngout/out_00001_.png,out_00001_.png,out_00001_.png❌sub/outout_00001_.png,out_00002_.png,out_00003_.pngsub/out/out_00001_.png,out_00001_.png,out_00001_.png❌sub/sub_00001_.png,sub_00001_.png,sub_00001_.png❌filename_prefixis a free-text widget, so a trailing slash is easy to type — especially when the prefix is being used to organize output into a folder, which is exactly when losing renders hurts most. The same applies to a trailing backslash on Windows.Change
One line:
map_filename()normalizes the prefix the same way the comparison does. For a prefix without a trailing separator
os.path.normpathis a no-op on the basename, so nothing changes for existing workflows.out/andoutnow resolve to the same folder and filename and therefore share one counter, which is what the rest of the function already assumed.Testing

folder_paths.py: 3 failed, 275 passed. With the change: 278 passed, 1 skipped, 0 failed (pytest tests-unit/ --continue-on-collection-errors).ruff checkclean on both files. One caveat, stated rather than hidden: 38 test modules fail to collect in my environment because torch and the other model-runtime dependencies are not installed, and that count is identical before and after. They are unaffected either way — this change is in a pure-Python path helper with no torch involvement — but I did not run them, so I am not claiming they pass.
