Uniget Will Not Update Some Packages Installed Via Winget #5522
This issue is about a bug (if it is not, please use the correct template).
UniGetUI Version
2026.3.2
Windows version, edition, and architecture
Windows 11 Home, x64
Describe your issue
Some programs (like Vivaldi and many others) will refuse to be updated in Uniget (if installed via winget). My solution was to uninstall the program and install via Uniget. This seems like a huge problem.
Hi TaxicabMessiah (@TaxicabMessiah),
I need a bit more detail to figure out what's going wrong. Could you collect the following from one failed Vivaldi update?
The operation output. Start the Vivaldi update in UniGetUI and let it fail. Then click the failed operation and copy all of its output text, including the error code at the end.
The UniGetUI log. Right after the failure, open UniGetUI Log from the app's menu and paste its contents. Package Manager logs (WinGet section) would help too.
Your settings. Did you change the default installation scope or architecture for WinGet in UniGetUI's settings?
Oh, so you're saying Uniget usually identifies and updates when programs were installed via other sources? That's good to know it's probably just my system. I've uninstalled the programs and installed them with Uniget to solve my issue on this PC so I don't have those logs anymore. I do have a unique setup including a local DNS server I have to disable. If it happens on my new PC I'll save the pertinent data.
Same here, i cannot update any program anymore since I've update them with winget.
Using manual update opens a terminal with something like: winget.exe update --id "ARP\Machine\X86\{141A88F8-31AC-49EA-B428-2BE8C19DED83}_is1" --exact --source winget --accept-source-agreements --disable-interactivity --scope user --silent --include-unknown --accept-package-agreements --force --architecture x64.
However, this results in No installed package found matching input criteria.
There is probably something wrong with the id? The above example is for the application FanControl with id Rem0o.FanControl.
I think I have seen UniGetUI get confused when I have installed something using one method and changed my mind and decided I wanted to install it using another method. Like if I decide I wanted it installed for all users but originally accidentally installed it just for me, Or if I installed from Microsoft store and then realised that was an old version that isn't updated and decided to install with a .exe installer program.
Now in one case I remember I decided in the end that it was Winget that was messing up, not UniGetUI and I actually had to investigate how to convince Winget that I really had uninstalled one version and didn't want to update (reinstall) it, which I had to do by pinning it because I could just not work out why Winget always thought it was still installed!

This is borderline incomprehensible BG. Just say the facts of the matter without the story.
