What

  • Adds @changesets/cli (3.0.3) with .changeset/config.json (access: "public", base main).
  • New scripts: changeset, version-packages (changeset version), release (changeset publish).
  • New .github/workflows/release.yml on push to main, using changesets/action v2.1.2 (pinned by SHA):
    • with changesets pending → opens/updates a "chore: version packages" PR (version bump + CHANGELOG)
    • after that PR merges → publishes to npm with provenance, tags, and creates a GitHub release
  • Renames the CHANGELOG title to # @maple-dev/effect-orm. With any other title, Changesets adds a second title above the existing one.

Why

So a release is a merged PR, run by CI, not a manual npm publish.

Reviewer notes

  • changeset publish calls npm publish, which runs prepublishOnly → test:release. That needs a live ClickHouse, so the release job starts the same clickhouse-server:26.8.2.7 service as ci.yml.
  • npm trusted publishing must be set up before the first publish: on npmjs.com, add a GitHub Actions trusted publisher for MapleTechLabs/effect-orm / release.yml. The workflow has id-token: write. No token path: changesets/action v2 no longer writes an .npmrc from NPM_TOKEN.
  • The job only runs on refs/heads/main, so a manual dispatch on another branch can't publish.
  • npm already has 0.5.0, so merging this publishes nothing. No changeset is included because the change is tooling only.
  • The version PR is opened with GITHUB_TOKEN, so ci.yml won't run on it automatically. prepublishOnly still gates the publish.
  • Tested locally: a temporary changeset → bun run version-packages produced 0.5.1 and a correct CHANGELOG entry (reverted).

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Chores
    • Package releases now follow an automated versioning and publishing workflow. Pending changes are gathered into a version update for review, and publishing runs after that update is merged.
    • The changelog title now identifies the package.

Add @changesets/cli and a Release workflow that opens a version PR while
changesets are pending and publishes to npm (with provenance) once it is
merged. The job starts ClickHouse because prepublishOnly runs the live
release checks.

Release automation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Changesets setup and commands
.changeset/config.json, package.json, .changeset/README.md, CHANGELOG.md
Adds Changesets release settings and package scripts, documents the Changesets folder, and changes the changelog heading to the package name.
Automated release workflow
.github/workflows/release.yml

The new release automation can publish from a manually selected branch other than main. If maintainers use the token option instead of trusted publishing, the first release will likely fail npm authentication. Restricting publishing to main and fixing the token path before merge are small changes.

Review comments at @.github/workflows/release.yml:
- Line 6: Restrict the release publishing path in the workflow so manual runs
can reach changeset publish only when the ref is refs/heads/main; add a job
condition or equivalent ref check without changing publishing behavior on main.
- Line 48: Configure the release workflow’s token-based publishing path so npm
authenticates using NPM_TOKEN, or remove that alternative and require trusted
publishing. Keep NPM_TOKEN optional when trusted publishing is configured;
update the workflow’s Changesets publish configuration without changing
unrelated release behavior.

changesets/action v2 no longer writes an .npmrc from NPM_TOKEN, so that
path could never authenticate. Drop it and rely on npm trusted publishing.
Guard the job so a manual run on another branch cannot publish.
