What

Bumps @effect-agent/core, engine and sandbox from 0.1.0-beta.74 to 0.1.0-beta.85 in apps/ai and packages/backend. The effect peer range is unchanged (^4.0.0-rc.112).

The one code change: beta.85 adds an AgentUpdateEmitted run event, so the exhaustive switch in apps/ai/src/chat/events.ts now lists it among the events with no chat representation. Maple's agents declare no typed updates.

What the new versions bring

• ToolCallFailed carries failureHandling (propagated vs returned to the model) and failureMode, and Agent.inspectTools exposes the mode. Useful for the case where a declared tool failure ends an investigation run.
• usage / delegatedUsage on terminal run and subagent events. Not read yet; a follow-up could put it on chat and investigation spans.
• Engine fixes: the model can correct mixed completion-tool batches before application tools run, and completion is allowed alongside provider-executed tool results.
• Typed background subagent updates and automatic parent reports (unused here: no subagents).
• Code Mode now authorizes each inner tool call. Maple does not use Code Mode, and our AgentPolicy only sets context and compaction limits.

• tsc --noEmit clean in apps/ai and packages/backend
• apps/ai vitest: 52 files, 611 tests pass
• packages/backend src/services/sandbox tests pass
• Lockfile regenerated with the pinned bun 1.4; the diff is only these three packages
