Fix My Mentorship listing for admins invited before first sign-in - #5781
Program admins invited through GitHub before their first Nest sign-in can manage a program directly but cannot find it in My Mentorship. Match the signed-in user's Nest or linked GitHub account in both the membership query and the page-scoped admin role lookup.
Reuse the admin predicate across both bulk lookups, preserving admin → mentor → mentee precedence, search, and pagination. The GitHub fallback is applied only when the user has a linked GitHub account. Add regression cases for admins alone and with mentor, mentee, or both roles, plus the existing no-GitHub-account control. No schema, migration, or account-linking changes are needed. The mentor and mentee GitHub identity predicates already exist in the base revision and remain unchanged.
Add 15 PostgreSQL-backed regression cases using persisted accounts, program admins, module roles, and programs. The new cases cover invitation before account creation, linked and unlinked admins, overlapping roles, unrelated users, Nest-only accounts, search, pagination, duplicate joins, mentor-only and mentee-only programs without admin membership, and the authenticated GraphQL query. Keep the existing predicate-focused tests.
Provide an isolated, temporary PostgreSQL service for make test-backend, with a unique Compose project per run and cleanup on success or failure. BACKEND_TEST_PROJECT supplies an optional prefix; every invocation appends a unique suffix, so supplied values cannot target an existing development project. Match the pinned PostgreSQL image in the backend job and local test service to the existing e2e and fuzz GitHub Actions workflows. The local database publishes no host ports and keeps its data in memory. Each invocation retains a unique image tag from build through test completion and removes it on exit, so concurrent worktrees cannot substitute another revision through the shared image tag.
Validation
Complete make check-test: static checks, 3,879 backend tests, 2,984 frontend unit tests, 371 accessibility tests, and 256 end-to-end tests. Backend coverage: 99.07%; modified resolver: 100%.
Database-backed regression comparison: six cases fail against the original resolver and all 15 pass with the fix. Also verified the GitHub Actions localhost database environment and Make failure propagation/database cleanup.
Image-race regression: pause the first source context after build/database startup and build a different resolver revision under the same tag. The original target runs the wrong source and fails six regressions; the fixed target runs its own uniquely tagged image and passes all 15 cases. Both databases and per-run image tags clean up independently.
Supplied-prefix regression: the old target removes an existing temporary project’s database and unrelated service. With the fix, concurrent successful and deliberately failing runs with that same prefix use different projects, clean up their own databases and images, and preserve the existing containers and marker data.
Build-failure cleanup: an injected failure immediately after a real image build returns nonzero, skips PostgreSQL startup, and removes the per-run image tag.
Concurrent Make verification: two default invocations use distinct projects; one deliberately fails and cleans up while the other database remains healthy and its tests pass. Both runs remove their own containers and networks.
Regression comparison: the four GitHub-admin cases fail against the original resolver and pass with the fix; the no-GitHub control passes in both versions.
Isolated PostgreSQL/GraphQL verification: invite an admin before creating their Nest account, confirm the original omission/lower roles, then verify all four memberships return as admin. Also verify direct management access, search, pagination, deduplication, existing linkage, no-GitHub and unrelated-user controls, and no implicit account-linking writes. All fixtures rolled back.
Local validation used bounded test workers and longer download timeouts with the repository’s pinned tooling and unchanged coverage thresholds.
Issue #5767 is now assigned to @vianmangal. Assignment was confirmed after the initial submission.
It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.
Your program list includes programs associated with your account or linked GitHub account.
Administrator access is recognized through either account, including when you also have mentor or mentee roles.
Without a linked GitHub account, program access continues to use your account directly.
Program results and administrator roles remain consistent when searching or browsing paginated results.
Documentation
Added guidance for running backend tests with an isolated database.
Walkthrough
The my_programs query now finds admin programs through Nest and linked GitHub identities. The change adds membership tests and configures a PostgreSQL service for backend tests.
Admin program lookup and role assignment now match Nest identity and, when available, GitHub identity. Unit tests check the predicates and admin role precedence.
Database tests cover invited admins before and after Nest-account linking, role precedence, unrelated and Nest-only users, search, pagination, and the authenticated GraphQL query.
Backend test environment
Layer / File(s)
Summary
PostgreSQL test setup docker-compose/backend-test/compose.yaml, backend/make/test.mk, .github/workflows/run-backend-tests.yaml, CONTRIBUTING.md, cspell/custom-dict.txt
The Make target starts a PostgreSQL service, configures the test container connection, and cleans up the service and image after tests. GitHub Actions provisions PostgreSQL and exports database settings. The contribution guide documents the setup, and the custom dictionary adds tmpfs.
A narrow existing-user sign-in path can hide an invited mentorship program; link the GitHub identity during authentication before merging.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue #5767 requires My Mentorship to list a program with userRole "admin" when the admin relationship is linked through nest_user or github_user. It also requires bulk role resolution to keep admin → mentor → mentee precedence. The whole-PR diff from the merge base to head in backend/src/apps/mentorship/api/internal/queries/program.py builds one admin_q predicate. admin_q is Q(admin__nest_user=user), and it adds Q(admin__github_user=github_user) only when github_user is not None. The membership lookup now uses ProgramAdmin.objects.filter(admin_q). The page-scoped admin-role lookup uses ProgramAdmin.objects.filter(admin_q, program_id__in=page_ids). The role loop order and the search, pagination, and distinct() logic are unchanged in the diff. The mentor and mentee predicates are not modified. The database-backed tests in api_queries_program_membership_test.py and the unit tests in api_queries_program_test.py cover unlinked and linked admins, overlapping roles, search, pagination, duplicate joins, the no-GitHub control, and the GraphQL query. Test content was assessed from the summary and was not re-run. The browser/OAuth flow is not part of the coding requirement and was not exercised.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The program.py diff is limited to the admin predicate that the issue requires. The mentor and mentee predicates are unchanged. The other changes support the PostgreSQL-backed regression tests that the issue asks for. These are the .github/workflows/run-backend-tests.yaml PostgreSQL service, the docker-compose/backend-test/compose.yaml db service, and the backend/make/test.mk isolated database and per-run image handling for make test-backend. The CONTRIBUTING.md section and the cspell entry document or support them. The per-run project isolation, unique image tags, and BACKEND_TEST_PROJECT prefix handling go beyond the minimum that the issue needs. They do not change product behavior and they connect to running the new database-backed tests. The test-infrastructure files were assessed from the diff and the summary. The Compose file was not inspected directly.
Full details: Docstring Coverage
Explanation
Docstring coverage is 100.00% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 9 functions across 3 files. Give each backend test run a unique Compose project and preserve its name through startup, pytest, and cleanup. Align the backend PostgreSQL pins with the e2e and fuzz workflows. Add real mentor-only and mentee-only membership cases, including overlapping module roles.

Retain a unique image tag for each backend test invocation so another worktree cannot replace the revision waiting for PostgreSQL. Keep the shared cache tag and remove each run's image tag on exit, including build failures.

Treat BACKEND_TEST_PROJECT as a prefix and always append a per-run suffix. This keeps test startup and cleanup away from existing Compose projects and isolates concurrent runs using the same supplied prefix. Document the prefix behavior.

Link an existing Nest user during GitHub authentication.
When github_auth finds an existing Nest user by username, it does not persist the fetched github_user. If that user was invited before sign-in, the invitation can have Admin.nest_user unset and only Admin.github_user populated. my_programs then omits the program because request.user.github_user is None.

Resolves #5767
Program admins invited through GitHub before their first Nest sign-in can manage a program directly but cannot find it in My Mentorship. Match the signed-in user's Nest or linked GitHub account in both the membership query and the page-scoped admin role lookup.
Reuse the admin predicate across both bulk lookups, preserving admin → mentor → mentee precedence, search, and pagination.
