🎉 Highlights

  • You can now fully customize AI prompts in-app, with far greater control. You can choose to append to existing prompts, completely replace prompts, and add custom global instructions which are added to every prompt which produces recipe data. The old OPENAI_CUSTOM_PROMPT_DIR env var has been removed, but if you had any custom prompts they will be imported into the new format automatically.

  • Instructions can now have individual durations. This means you can specify a particular step takes "10 minutes", for example.

  • Meal plan entries can now be created for the entire week, rather than a particular day/time. Great for when you know you're going to make something this week, but you're not sure when yet.

  • Risk: LOW-MEDIUM. Minor bump (v3.29.0 → v3.30.0) of a single, non-critical app (Mealie, Postgres-backed). The release is large, with many fixes and an AI settings rework.
  • Breaking changes (checked against cluster/apps/mealie/mealie/app/helm-release.yaml, release notes from the PR body):
    • OPENAI_CUSTOM_PROMPT_DIR is removed. This repo doesn't set it, so it isn't affected.
    • The AI prompt settings moved in-app. This repo sets OPENAI_BASE_URL, OPENAI_API_KEY, OPENAI_MODEL and OPENAI_SEND_DATABASE_DATA as env vars. The notes list no removal of these. They do mention a fix to "backfill missing AI provider settings" (#8924). The Ollama setup should keep working, but check it after rollout.
    • The server now listens on IPv4 and IPv6 by default (#8569). The service is on port 9000 and uses the default bind, so this should be harmless.
    • DB_ENGINE now rejects unrecognised values instead of falling back to SQLite (#8605). This repo uses postgres, so it is fine.
    • The release includes DB migrations (instruction durations, weekly meal plans). There is no documented downgrade path.
  • Action needed: none, safe to merge on green. Before merging, make sure the Postgres (CNPG) mealiedb backup is recent, because the migrations are one-way. After the rollout, open Mealie and try one AI import to confirm the Ollama settings still work.
