At one point, our current proxy form stated it would remain valid for three years.
Blue-sky thinking:
We can do something similar. Revocable, a given duration, and permissions (count for "presence" and/or to "vote"). Likely a configurable maximum duration. For any Election that is created where $other holds a proxy, then we send an email to remind $self that they have been proxied. That allows them to revoke the proxy.
Edge/race conditions of $other voting before the revocation.
I think it must also be mutual agreement. "JohnDoe has requested you act as their proxy for $permissions. Do you agree?"
That is easy for voting proxy (super rare). But our Secretary has hundreds of proxies. Should probably consider bulk management of proxies.
Note that we have user profiles and settings. (not sure about having two, but there is a placeholder) ... and/or have some kind of proxy dashboard.

To authorize a proxy - I would think that you would login and then assign another member as your proxy.

If you can login, why do you need a proxy?
Unless the login can be done well BEFORE the vote is ready, I'm not sure I see the point.

It's an idea. Probably it can be long term and outside a particular vote.
