Guice Java 25 Roadmap

[GoldSucc]

Official response is needed, what to expect, will Guice support 25 or it should be considered abandoned? Is it ok to greenfield guice? Should we start migrating projects to other DI frameworks?
2 months without commits, 2 years without releases. Very concerning.

Guice works with JDK 25 and 26 without changes :) Just need to use unshaded classes package to use latest ASM instead of a bundled one.

right, but it is preferable to use something supported ootb, reduces maintenance overhead and potential issues. without diving deep into the guice, can't say if it will cause some side effects or not. for now decided to stay with JDK 21. still find it concerning we are not getting updates anymore for guice, and from commits it looks like development of project stopped.

It has issues when it tries to print out errors during injection.

@mattjgoodwin, you can use classes qualifer for Guice and explicit dependency on latest ow2 asm

A release with that change would show that this project is still maintained.

The suggested workaround in a Maven POM file would look like this:

      <dependency>
        <groupId>com.google.inject</groupId>
        <artifactId>guice</artifactId>
        <version>7.0.0</version>
        <classifier>classes</classifier>
      </dependency>
      <dependency>
        <groupId>org.ow2.asm</groupId>
        <artifactId>asm</artifactId>
        <version>9.9.1</version>
      </dependency>

Thanks guys, that fixed my issues!
