Summary

  • Carry fix(combos): hop past a Codex model the signed-in ChatGPT plan cannot use #6505 by @vadymhimself (ce2c1a60fd6934ee84b1c52d4392a6128911d914). An exact ChatGPT plan/model HTTP 400 refusal can try the next declared combo target. Competing detail and error envelopes stop before an independent model-code hop.
  • Preserve a finite error category before display shortening and SSE reconstruction, including nested response.failed errors. An inspected non-match remains authoritative. The category stays internal; existing output-commitment, cancellation and send-budget stops remain in force.
  • Document the behavior and register a separate route regression file in both maps. Tests exercise two models on the same provider, proving the fallback does not require provider-wide or account quarantine.

The coordinator owns integration and source-PR disposition; this PR does not close #6505. Subsequent spending integration must preserve ConsumedComboFailure.codexModelRefusal and the preflight result field.

Verification

  • Presence-family regressions reproduced 75 pass / 4 fail before repair. The corrected route/classifier set passes 79 tests, including nonmatching/null outer details, the inverse error/detail placement, a 64-case placement/value matrix, and shallow-boundary controls.
  • Current focused suite: 374 pass / 0 fail across 11 files (classification, real route, combo E2E, zero-output, preflight, policy fallback, core module boundary, core/Lab boundary, layout and size guards).
  • Independent security/code review of the correction: PASS, with 19 independent assertions. Architect reflection and independent plan audit approved the presence-based contract. It inspects only the original root and its own non-array response record; no positive carrier was added.
  • Current bun run typecheck, bun run privacy:scan, bun run structure:check and git diff --check: pass. English and four translated combo tables are synchronized; their preceding docs build passed. No file-size limits were raised.
  • Merged current dev a41f67273c4937b852f26d726001641fe2026f63 before verification, including the landed auth carry.
  • Full local suite exception: concurrent release worktrees share this host. Applicable exact-head PR CI is required; coordinator owns final integrated verification.
  • Live provider sessions and packaged/native client behavior remain unverified; route tests use isolated synthetic credentials and mocked upstream responses.

Current head: af350a1924. Exact-head pull_request CI 37146395644, attempt 1, passed all four test shards and applicable jobs. Independent security closure passed and all known review threads are resolved. Ready for coordinator integration.

Checklist

  • Scope stays focused and avoids unrelated cleanup.
  • Docs or release notes were updated when needed.
  • Security-sensitive changes were reviewed for secrets, auth, and unsafe defaults.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Combos now try the next configured target when Codex with a ChatGPT account returns an exact HTTP 400 refusal that the model is unsupported, provided no output has been committed.
    • Conflicting error details, unrelated or partial refusal text, and failures after output begins remain terminal; committed output is not replayed.
    • This refusal alone does not trigger account reauthentication or a provider-wide model cooldown.

…ction

Carry #6505 by Vadym O (ce2c1a6). Permit bounded exact ChatGPT plan/model refusals to try the next declared target, while conflicting envelopes stop before code-based hops. Preserve finite classification before display truncation and SSE reconstruction; never carry raw bodies in that metadata.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

This change recognizes an exact Codex model refusal for a ChatGPT account and can route the combo to its next target before output is committed. It carries bounded refusal evidence through response handling and adds classification and integration tests.

Changes

Codex model refusal failover

Layer / File(s) Summary
Classify the refusal and choose a target
src/combos/failover.ts, src/server/responses/policy-fallback.ts, tests/routing/router-combo-failover-classification.test.ts, docs-site/src/content/docs/*/guides/combos.md
The classifier recognizes the exact refusal in supported HTTP 400 message forms. It treats competing detail and error fields as ambiguous. A definite refusal permits a hop; ambiguous and unrelated messages stop. The policy fallback path does not use truncated text for its decision.
Carry refusal evidence through response handling
src/server/responses/combo-stream-preflight.ts, src/server/responses/core-options.ts, src/server/responses/core-combo-failure.ts, src/server/responses/core-combo.ts, tests/server/server-combo-plan-model-refusal.test.ts, scripts/test-layout/layout.json, tests/fixtures/test-layout-expected.json, structure/providers-and-adapters.md, structure/transports/responses.md
Response handling captures finite refusal evidence before display truncation and passes it to combo classification. Tests cover streaming and non-streaming failures, conflicting envelopes, unrelated nested refusal text, and failures after output commitment. Structure docs describe the evidence contract; test-layout files register the integration test.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in docs-site/src/content/docs/guides/combos.md: The failure table adds an exact HTTP 400 unsupported-model refusal case for Codex with a ChatGPT account: it tries the next declared target before output commitment when the whole refusal appears in detail, error.message, or bare text. Competing detail and error envelopes remain terminal, and this case does not quarantine the account or cool every provider model.
  • observed — Modified behavior in scripts/test-layout/layout.json: Added the server-combo-plan-model-refusal.test.ts test-to-category mapping with the value server.
  • observed — Modified behavior in src/combos/failover.ts: Adds the refusal pattern and exported classification type. The payload classifier accepts only HTTP 400 object payloads, returns ambiguous when both detail and error are present, and otherwise tests the selected string field against the exact refusal sentence.
  • observed — Modified behavior in src/combos/failover.ts: Adds a bounded message fallback for HTTP 400: messages longer than 16,384 characters return other; otherwise it trims the text, strips one Provider error 400: prefix, checks the exact sentence, then tries JSON payload classification. Parse failures return other.

tables to include the exact HTTP 400 model-not-supported refusal for Codex with
a ChatGPT account as a hop before output commitment. Preserve the English
entry’s refusal-envelope conditions and ensure this case does not quarantine the

Review comments at @src/server/responses/combo-stream-preflight.ts:
- Around line 73-87: Update terminalModelRefusal so an object-valued nested
response.error paired with an own outer detail returns "ambiguous" rather than
nestedKind; preserve the existing behavior for envelopes without that conflict.
Add a test covering a response.failed event with a refusal detail and nested
unsupported_model error, verifying comboFailureDecision does not hop to another
target.

Maintainer integration decision: merge this carry into dev under the project owner's explicit release-train authorization and the current maintainer-integration policy. This is not self-approval.

Independent coordinator review and explicit security review PASS at af350a1924ee55ddc60fe9fa04289d1aa494f437. The late cross-level envelope findings were repaired as a common field-presence rule, and the same reviewer verified the family closure and downstream finite-evidence, privacy, cancellation, replay and send-limit contracts. The bounded HTTP400 rule does not claim every mixed SSE envelope is terminal regardless of reconstructed status. Lane regressions show 75 pass/4 fail before correction and 79 pass/0 fail after; the broader focused set passed 374 tests.

Current dev a41f67273c4937b852f26d726001641fe2026f63 is already an ancestor of the reviewed head. The computed union is the reviewed head tree; line-cap and layout-map parity checks pass with no changed limits. All currently published review threads are resolved. Full integrated parallel regression and final cross-platform candidate CI remain required before production publication.

The optional external CodeRabbit review context is still pending and is not counted as a passing review. Current-head independent review is complete and every currently published finding is resolved; post-merge/final review checks remain mandatory.

Hosted receipt: https://github.com/lidge-jun/opencodex/actions/runs/37146395644, attempt 1, pull_request, tested head af350a1924ee55ddc60fe9fa04289d1aa494f437 / base a41f67273c4937b852f26d726001641fe2026f63. Current reviewed dev base a41f67273c4937b852f26d726001641fe2026f63; conflict-free union tree 8625457aa0fb590d128525a18cda2c9d02a1bcc6. All four Linux shards and selected gates/storage/API/docs/structure/Docker/keyring/npm-global jobs succeeded. Skipped full-platform suites are not claimed passing; final integrated lane=all remains required.
