Merge-manager verification: not merging yet — one authorization blocker. Tested head Blocker: Fix direction: drop these two routes from the Child allowlist, or serve projections that do no discovery or persistence, and add a config-unchanged assertion for every allowed route. A follow-up is being prepared on this branch. |
…d apply Home Codex settings (#6957)
…-only CLI reads, refuse ocx debug on a Child
…om the Home, refuse provider changes on a Child (review)
… accounts locally (review)
… error text (review)
… (review) A Remote Link Child's read of /api/injection-model, /api/model-presets or /api/sidecar-settings ran model discovery on the Home. Discovery reaches provider upstreams and persists the initial model selection, so with a pending provider one Child GET switched the Home provider to all-off and saved its models as disabled. An audit of the whole allowlist found more reads that act on the Home: the Codex account list refreshes tokens, probes WHAM and writes the observed plan; provider quota probes upstreams and republishes routing evidence; startup health, settings and the native model list start the startup diagnostic, Codex version probes and the bundled-catalog refresh; and credential-store reads tighten permissions and back up a malformed file on every read. The Home now runs every link read as a passive read (src/lib/passive-read.ts) that shows what it already knows and starts no work: discovery returns no routed models, provider quota and Codex accounts are served from the Home's caches without a probe, token refresh or claim, the diagnostic, version probes and catalog refresh are not started, and hardening and malformed-file backups are skipped. /api/injection-model and /api/sidecar-settings keep their shape and list native options plus the persisted picks. /api/model-presets leaves the allowlist: its preview only decides a write a Child cannot make. The relay test reads every allowlisted path, GET and HEAD, against a Home with a pending provider, a quota-probed provider, an expired pool token and a malformed OAuth store. It records every fetch, child process and file mutation made inside a passive read and asserts there are none and that the Home config file and live config are unchanged; the same reads made by the Home then do each kind of work.

P2 — the new read-only Child surface still exposes a durable Home mutation at head e4b29de910e2d40c8bc8eaa71c3c16933b4d84bb.
src/link/management-routes.ts:21,34 allows GET /api/injection-model and /api/model-presets. Their handlers call fetchAllModels; src/server/management/shared.ts:303 finalizes initial model selection after discovery. Thus HTTP method/query restrictions do not establish a read-only contract. A Home provider awaiting initial selection can be changed by a Child's read, without an explicit Home mutation operation.
This agrees with @lidge-jun's existing isolated reproduction in issuecomment-6119291447; that runtime receipt belongs to them. I independently confirmed the source call path, not reran a provider or credential probe. Recording the unresolved issue as a formal change request so it is not mistaken for merge-ready read-only behavior while the author prepares the follow-up.
Please remove these two paths from the allowlist or supply genuinely non-discovering/non-persisting projections, then assert config and persistence remain unchanged for every permitted GET/HEAD route with pending model selection. Keep ordinary Home management behavior covered separately. No author branch takeover, scan, workflow authorization or merge is implied.

Re-reviewed the read-only side-effect correction at b25c48d8857f525c209cb7d76e38aa49421f5e1e (runtime correction 1a93d1c77b). My previous change request was specifically the discovery-to-persistence path, not whole-PR sign-off.
The current allowlist removes /api/model-presets and the other discovering roster reads. handleLinkManagementRequest enters an AsyncLocalStorage passive scope before the management handler; fetchAllModels exits before discovery/finalization, and injection/sidecar views use held/native options. I also checked the new passive branches for quota/account probes, runtime/bundled-catalog/startup diagnostics, config hardening/backups, ownership re-probe, and memory-store eviction. Ordinary Home calls remain outside that scope. The new relay regression enumerates every admitted GET and HEAD against pending selection and expired/malformed fixture state, checks unchanged persisted/live config and file metadata, watches side effects, waits past the debounce, and includes Home-side positive controls. That directly addresses the regression I requested.
I am withdrawing my prior objection (review 5488257417) as resolved on this head. This is not APPROVE, a security-boundary sign-off, sponsorship, or a merge instruction. I did not independently execute the new suite this pass: other worktrees have active Cargo builds, so the serial host workload guard defers local validation. Existing exact-head ci and the Linux/Windows/macOS suite checks are successful; skipped privacy/macOS-control jobs are not claimed as executed coverage. The broader new cached-only read policy and original link/settings authority still require their normal owner/boundary acceptance. No scan, live service call, or runtime configuration change was performed.
Withdrawing my own discovery/persistence objection after source re-review of b25c48d and its exhaustive GET/HEAD regression; scoped resolution, not whole-PR approval. See the current-head review.
The #6959 passive-read effect watcher counted every numeric open flag other than exactly O_RDONLY as a write. With #6973 a passive GET /api/settings on a Mac that has the Codex app installed resolves the runtime and reads the app's Info.plist with O_RDONLY | O_NONBLOCK (the non-blocking flag keeps a FIFO at that path from hanging discovery), which the watcher reported as a write. Numeric flags are now judged by their write bits (O_WRONLY, O_RDWR, O_CREAT, O_TRUNC, O_APPEND) and string flags by Node's write-capable modes, with a deterministic assertion so the check does not depend on the host having the app installed. Subprocess and write watchers are unchanged.

… refusal on Remote Link Children (#6959) Squashed from #6959 for the 2.84.0 release train. A Remote Link Child relayed inference to its Home, but its dashboard failed with "Dashboard data could not be loaded", its Codex `config.toml` kept its own OpenCodex-written settings, and its CLI answered with hub wording, `not_found` or "Hub does not support client usage". This PR gives the Child an authenticated, read-only view of its Home, applies the Home's OpenCodex-owned Codex settings when the Child syncs, and makes every management command either read the Home or refuse with one message. **Read-only management relay over the link** - `src/link/management-routes.ts` holds a shared, default-deny allowlist of Home management GET reads. A read is allowed only for a listed path, GET or HEAD, and a query without `refresh`, `reload`, `force` or `quota`. - The Home's hub-link listener serves those paths under `/v1/link-management/…`, after the existing link-key admission (only recorded link keys). `src/server/index/link-management.ts` builds a fresh loopback request with no caller headers, cookies, Origin or principal and returns only content headers with `no-store`. The prefix does not exist on the public listener. - The Child dashboard's shared plane becomes the Child listener's `/api/machine/hub-relay` base. The browser holds only the Child's own session (`/api/machine/hub-relay/opencodex-session` is answered locally), and `src/client/link-management-relay.ts` sends allowlisted reads through the existing connection-bound link relay, so the link key is attached only after the tunnel listener proves the link identity. Everything else gets `403 link_child_read_only` before a request exists. The Child's unauthenticated data-plane ingress still relays only the data-plane table. - The dashboard shows "Managed by Home <name> over Remote Link (<link id>)", outside the page error boundary. The header quota strip now reads the Home's `/api/provider-quotas`. - The Home answers every link read as a passive read (`src/lib/passive-read.ts`): it shows what the Home already knows and does not make it act on providers, accounts, processes or files. Model discovery returns no routed models. Provider quota and Codex accounts come from the Home's caches without a probe or token refresh. The startup diagnostic, Codex version probes, bundled-catalog refresh and native-main ownership re-probe are not started. Credential-store hardening and malformed-file backups are skipped, and memory-budget eviction only drops caches registered as memory-only. `/api/injection-model` and `/api/sidecar-settings` therefore list native options plus the Home's current picks. **Home Codex settings (scope 1)** I checked which Codex keys OpenCodex writes. The injector reads four policy fields from OpenCodex config: `fastMode` (`[features] fast_mode`), `multiAgentMode` (the `features.multi_agent_v2` reconcile), `webSearchSidecar.enabled` (root `web_search`), and the effective managed sub-agent defaults (`syncCodexSubagentDefaults` + `injectionModel` + `injectionEffort`). Effort caps, the sub-agent roster and fallback, the injection prompt, sidecar and compaction routing are applied per request by the Home's proxy, so they already followed the Home. `src/link/codex-settings.ts` publishes those four on `/v1/link-management/codex-settings`. It is a separate authenticated read because the catalog bytes are written verbatim to `model_catalog_json`. Connect and `syncConnectedClient` overlay the strictly parsed document before injection. After the injection that applies it succeeds, a fresh read is recorded in `<configDir>/link/home-codex-settings.json` (0600, keyed by link id, removed on disconnect). A failed read reuses the record, and an older Home keeps the Child's local values and says so. `ocx sync` and `ocx status` list which values came from the Home. The record's host name is also how a Home-initiated Child names its Home in messages. **CLI (scope 3)** `src/cli/link-child.ts` applies the same table to `runtimeRequest`, the account client, observation and `ocx debug`. Reads go to the Home over the bound relay. Everything else is refused with `linkChildManagementRefusal`: "This machine is a Remote Link Child managed by Home <name> (link <id>). <METHOD path> runs on the Home, not on this Child: use the Home's dashboard or run the command there. No request was sent." The text no longer mentions a relay transport. `ocx usage` reads the Home with Home wording, `ocx account list` reads the Home, `ocx status` describes a Remote Link Home (rebased onto #6955's local Child relay for `/v1/hub-state`), `ocx provider list|show` and `ocx config get` print a stderr note that the values are local and inactive, `ocx config set|unset|import` write locally with that note, and `ocx provider add|remove|set-default` are refused. Account commands classify providers from the Home's `/api/providers` projection, so Home-only providers are listed. Closes #6957

Ten commits landed on dev while this branch was being validated; the merge is automatic, with one union defect that neither side has alone. lidge-jun#6959 added two lines to src/providers/quota.ts, whose file-size cap is 558. With this branch's scoped-refresh parameter the file reached 560. The parameter's comment and the stale-id fallback are tightened to bring it to 555; behaviour is unchanged and "a stale scoped id falls back to force-all" still covers it. Summary
A Remote Link Child relayed inference to its Home, but its dashboard failed with "Dashboard data could not be loaded", its Codex
config.tomlkept its own OpenCodex-written settings, and its CLI answered with hub wording,not_foundor "Hub does not support client usage". This PR gives the Child an authenticated, read-only view of its Home, applies the Home's OpenCodex-owned Codex settings when the Child syncs, and makes every management command either read the Home or refuse with one message.Read-only management relay over the link
src/link/management-routes.tsholds a shared, default-deny allowlist of Home management GET reads. A read is allowed only for a listed path, GET or HEAD, and a query withoutrefresh,reload,forceorquota./v1/link-management/…, after the existing link-key admission (only recorded link keys).src/server/index/link-management.tsbuilds a fresh loopback request with no caller headers, cookies, Origin or principal and returns only content headers withno-store. The prefix does not exist on the public listener./api/machine/hub-relaybase. The browser holds only the Child's own session (/api/machine/hub-relay/opencodex-sessionis answered locally), andsrc/client/link-management-relay.tssends allowlisted reads through the existing connection-bound link relay, so the link key is attached only after the tunnel listener proves the link identity. Everything else gets403 link_child_read_onlybefore a request exists. The Child's unauthenticated data-plane ingress still relays only the data-plane table./api/provider-quotas.src/lib/passive-read.ts): it shows what the Home already knows and does not make it act on providers, accounts, processes or files. Model discovery returns no routed models. Provider quota and Codex accounts come from the Home's caches without a probe or token refresh. The startup diagnostic, Codex version probes, bundled-catalog refresh and native-main ownership re-probe are not started. Credential-store hardening and malformed-file backups are skipped, and memory-budget eviction only drops caches registered as memory-only./api/injection-modeland/api/sidecar-settingstherefore list native options plus the Home's current picks.Home Codex settings (scope 1)
I checked which Codex keys OpenCodex writes. The injector reads four policy fields from OpenCodex config:
fastMode([features] fast_mode),multiAgentMode(thefeatures.multi_agent_v2reconcile),webSearchSidecar.enabled(rootweb_search), and the effective managed sub-agent defaults (syncCodexSubagentDefaults+injectionModel+injectionEffort). Effort caps, the sub-agent roster and fallback, the injection prompt, sidecar and compaction routing are applied per request by the Home's proxy, so they already followed the Home.src/link/codex-settings.tspublishes those four on/v1/link-management/codex-settings. LINK_MANAGEMENT_READ_PATHS. It deliberately excludes/api/models,/api/model-presets,/api/subagent-modelsand/api/subagent-model-fallback, because those run live provider discovery on the Home and can persist an initial model selection. The preset preview only decides a write a Child cannot make, soocx models preset showis refused on a Child./api/injection-modelstays readable because the Child dashboard andocx effortshow the Home's delegation model and effort from it; it is served passively (see above). Excluding them means the Child dashboard's model list andocx models live/ocx models order status/ocx agent subagentsare refused on a Child (Codex on the Child already offers the Home's catalog). A read-only roster projection would be a follow-up./api/logs, debug, combos, routing profiles and project-config diagnostics are also excluded.loopback-issued sessions for Home reads is possible but would also lock out the normal local dashboard./api/codex-auth/accountsand/api/provider-quotas(the header strip) show what the Home has already observed and never probe or refresh a token for a Child, so a Home whose own dashboard and traffic are idle can show stale or empty quota on the Child. Review fix for the merge-manager finding: Child link GETs of
/api/injection-model//api/model-presetsran model discovery and switched a pending Home provider to all-off. Fixed in1a93d1c77bon deva0191a1b6f;b25c48d885adds a docs-only follow-up for CodeRabbit (the guide now namesocx config unsetandimportbesidesetas local writes on a Child)./api/sidecar-settings, and other reads that made the Home act: token refresh with a JWT plan write and WHAM probes in/api/codex-auth/accounts; upstream probes and routing-evidence publication in/api/provider-quotas; the startup diagnostic, Codex version probes and the bundled-catalog refresh behind/api/startup-health,/api/settingsand the native model list; repeated backups of a malformed credential store; native-main ownership re-probes; and memory-budget eviction that could spill a continuation or rewrite the Antigravity replay snapshot. All of these are now prevented by the passive read scope. The remaining reads have no side effects beyond in-memory caches.tests/server/link-management-relay.test.ts: 11 pass, stable over repeated runs). The fixture is a Home with a pending provider holding 20 models, a quota-probed provider (OpenRouter), canonical OpenAI, a Codex pool account with an expired token, a malformed OAuth store and a native-main ownership fence.fetch,child_process/Bun.spawn/Bun.writecall and mutatingnode:fs/fs/promisescall. The test asserts that none of these changed, both immediately and after a 2.5 s wait past the snapshot debounce./api/usageread under memory pressure demotes no continuation, undeclared cache or persisted replay session; passive discovery leaves a pending provider pending; a passive startup-health read starts no diagnostic.bun run typecheck, bun run structure:check, bun run privacy:scan, bun run lint:guiandbun run skill:surface:checkall exit 0 on the final head.
