Summary

Use bun check --no-script --noEmit for the root developer typecheck and retain typecheck:tsc as the reference compiler command. The root strict src/ scope is unchanged. CI, release preflight and the GUI keep their existing compiler checks.

Keep publishing on the reference compiler: audit:high → typecheck:tsc → build:gui. Lifecycle fixtures verify compiler selection, no emission and fail-fast behavior without publishing or accessing the registry. The --no-script flag prevents a package check script from shadowing Bun's checker.

#7627 has merged into dev and this PR already targets dev. Candidate 2e437162af2f0bc6e4a7f9a3bdd8eef1e50ff882 normally merges the previous public head df63014cbe208e9e4652d47ba54a8819c3e7c71f with dev 5d995c956dd970be3cb9fc1cad9cb78300060ba0. Its dev-relative scope is 13 files (+199/-25); package changes are limited to the three checker/publish script entries. Current security dependencies, lockfiles and Bun runtime/test-runner 1.4.4 are preserved. The shared upload fixture uses the exact dev blob.

Verification

On the new candidate, official Windows Bun 1.4.4+38afee6c8 and installed TypeScript 7.0.2, with isolated task homes/temp and unchanged dependencies:

  • bun run typecheck: passed, no type errors in 2,114 files. Installed Bun and the .bin launcher resolve to 1.4.4; the installed executable hash matches the official binary.
  • bun ./node_modules/typescript/bin/tsc --noEmit --incremental false: passed.
  • bun test --isolate ./tests/ci-workflows/ci-gui-typecheck-gate.test.ts --timeout 60000: 14 passed, 38 assertions. Native/reference strict errors, root scope, declarations, no emission, script shadowing, reference publish ordering and audit/compiler fail-fast all passed. Audit and GUI-build steps are recorder fixtures; no registry access, actual publish or GUI build was performed.
  • bun test --isolate ./tests/ci-workflows/cold-spawn-warmup.test.ts --timeout 60000: 20 passed, 42 assertions. Coverage includes warm-up registration, graph resolution, bounded child death and pipe-drain behavior.
  • 34 passed, 0 failed, 0 skipped, 80 assertions in the two focused files. Structure SSOT, generated skill-surface consistency, changed-13-file privacy/file-size and whitespace checks passed. All eight validation units returned native exit 0 and dual output EOF; observed owned processes and temporary task environments were cleaned. No timeout/assertion was changed.

The full local suite was not repeated on the shared Windows host; focused checker/publish and lifecycle regressions cover this integration. No end-to-end performance improvement is claimed. Native Windows fixture results do not establish other-platform behavior.

Historical full cross-platform CI succeeded on the previous public head df63014cbe208e9e4652d47ba54a8819c3e7c71f. It is not validation of the new merge candidate; required exact-new-head hosted CI remains outstanding. Earlier 776/df local results remain historical, rather than being added to the counts above.

Maintainer compiler-policy adoption/security acceptance and required CI remain separate from these local checks.

Checklist

  • Scope stays focused and avoids unrelated cleanup.
  • Docs or release notes were updated when needed.
  • Security-sensitive changes were reviewed for secrets, auth, and unsafe defaults.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Developer Experience
    • bun run typecheck now uses Bun’s native TypeScript checker. The TypeScript compiler remains available through bun run typecheck:tsc for comparison and fallback.
    • Publishing continues to use the TypeScript compiler, and stops before the GUI build if the audit or type check fails.
  • Documentation
    • Updated contributing and CI guidance across supported languages to explain the type-check commands and their scope.

Use bun check --no-script --noEmit for developer checks and retain the installed TypeScript CLI as an explicit reference command. Preserve CI and release checks.

Walkthrough

The local typecheck script now runs Bun’s native checker. The previous TypeScript compiler command remains available as typecheck:tsc, and prepublishOnly uses that command. Tests and contributor documentation cover the checker options, scope, and publish-hook order.

Changes: Typecheck Command Update

Layer / File(s) Summary
Checker command and validation
package.json, tests/ci-workflows/ci-gui-typecheck-gate.test.ts, AGENTS.md, docs-site/src/content/docs/contributing.md, docs-site/src/content/docs/*/contributing.md, tests/ci-workflows/cold-spawn-warmup.test.ts
typecheck uses bun check --no-script --noEmit; typecheck:tsc retains the TypeScript compiler command. Tests check strict errors, no emitted files, and that the native command bypasses a package check script. Contributor guidance documents the command scope and options.
Publish-hook compiler gate
package.json, tests/ci-workflows/ci-gui-typecheck-gate.test.ts, structure/ops/cross-platform-ci.md
prepublishOnly runs typecheck:tsc between the audit and GUI build. Tests verify the order and fail-fast behavior. CI documentation distinguishes local checks, publishing, CI, release preflight, and GUI build checks.

Independent source review (gpt-6.1-sol, dispatched by the triage manager, 2026-10-24) at head 77653545e2:

VERDICT: MUST-FIX
LANE_ALL_REQUIRED: yes

Reviewed head: 77653545e2e53e0b4dd477d0e8ee7b10ac7b694e.

  • P2 — Missing required cross-platform evidence: tests/ci-workflows/ci-gui-typecheck-gate.test.ts:274 adds Windows junctions and :277 copies Windows compiler shims. CI run 39985665248 passed its Ubuntu scope, but skipped Windows/macOS; no exact-head lane=all dispatch exists. .github/workflows/ci.yml:1000–1008 requires that dispatch before merging Windows-sensitive changes. Fix: obtain successful exact-head ci.yml lane=all evidence and address failures before integration.

No additional source defect found. Security review confirms package.json:71 preserves audit → reference tsc → GUI build; meaningful regressions cover compiler selection, strict failures, script shadowing, no emission, and fail-fast ordering.

PR template is complete; unresolved review threads: 0. Existing test registrations remain valid. Layout stays at 1,999 lines; changed tests are 341/363 lines, structure doc 157/600; no ratchet issue identified.

Branch is 4 commits behind dev, with no textual conflicts found. Coordinate overlapping package/docs changes with #7627, preserving its runner pin and role validation. Compiler-policy adoption remains a maintainer decision.

NOT RUN: local tests, typecheck, builds, installs, repository gates, or CI dispatch.

This is a read-only source review; merging still requires the gates named above (exact-head CI, lane=all where marked, and maintainer acceptance where required).

The #7627 branch was deleted after its merge, which closed this dependent PR. The fix at df63014 is not in dev, so I restored this PR against dev without changing its head or existing review state. Current-dev integration and updated validation will follow; required maintainer acceptance is unchanged.
