Summary

scripts/generate_docs.py and scripts/docs_render/ were a vendored copy of the docsfy renderer. That generator is now published on PyPI as pi-docsite, so the vendored copy is deleted and the site is rebuilt with uvx pi-docsite.

Net: -4,047 / +535 across 42 files.

Why the vendored copy can go

The vendored renderer was already a strict subset of the package — I diffed the 4.7.0 wheel against scripts/docs_render/ and the Jinja templates (index, page, _sidebar, _theme) were byte-identical. The vendored copy existed only so docs could be rebuilt without the other repo present. That reason is now obsolete.

What changes for a docs author

Before: add a line to the NAVIGATION list in scripts/generate_docs.py, then rebuild.
Now: add the slug to docs/nav.json, then rebuild.

A page missing from nav.json is still built — it lands under a fallback group named More and the build prints a note naming it, so a page can never be silently invisible. A slug in nav.json with no .md behind it is a build error, so a dead sidebar link is a build failure rather than a silently broken page.

Per-page nav_group / nav_order frontmatter is supported as an override when one page must live somewhere else, instead of restructuring the array.

What the package adds over the vendored copy

  • ?v=<hash> cache-busting on asset URLs — previously a rebuilt asset could be served stale from a browser cache, since the URLs never changed
  • Wide tables wrapped in a scrollable div instead of widening the page past the viewport
  • Stale <slug>.html is only deleted when it carries the generator's marker, so a hand-written 404.html survives a rebuild
  • Search reports a clear "serve over HTTP" message instead of failing silently on file://
  • The header badge correctly reads pi-docsite and links to this repo

That last one is a fix for a bug this repo was about to inherit: the badge hardcoded the label pi-config while the href pointed at the consuming repo. Reported and fixed upstream in myk-org/pi-config#871, released in 4.7.2.

Verification

  • uvx prek run --all-files → exit 0
  • uvx tox → unittests OK, 1816 passed, coverage 90.35%
  • Sidebar renders all four groups (Getting Started, User Guides, Explore, Reference) in the original order
  • docs/llms.txt is byte-identical before and after — group structure and page titles fully preserved
  • Ran the generator twice: 19/19 output files byte-identical (determinism claim verified, not assumed)
  • Removed markdown, jinja2 and pygments from the dev group after confirming nothing outside the deleted renderer imported them; uv.lock resynced

Known issue, not addressed here

tox -e unused-code fails locally on sidecar-helper/node_modules/pi-orchestrator-config/scripts/httpd.py:find_free_port. That directory is gitignored, and the same command passes on a clean origin/main worktree, so CI is unaffected. It will trip for anyone who has run npm install in sidecar-helper/. The fix is --exclude-files in tox.toml, kept out of this PR as an unrelated pre-existing bug.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

scripts/generate_docs.py and scripts/docs_render/ were a vendored copy of
myk-org/docsfy. That generator is now published as `pi-docsite` on PyPI, so the
vendored copy is deleted and the site is rebuilt with `uvx pi-docsite`.

The vendored copy was already a strict subset of the package; the package adds:

- docs/nav.json as the sidebar layout, replacing the NAVIGATION list that used to
be hardcoded in the generator. A page missing from nav.json is still built but
lands under a fallback group and the build prints a note naming it.
- Per-page `nav_group` / `nav_order` frontmatter overrides.
- Stale HTML is only deleted when it carries the generator's marker, so a
  hand-written 404.html survives a rebuild.
- `?v=<hash>` cache-busting on asset URLs, so a rebuilt asset is not served
  stale from a browser cache.
- Wide tables are wrapped in a scrollable div instead of widening the page.
- The header badge reads `pi-docsite` and links to this repo. It previously
hardcoded the label "pi-config" while pointing the href at this repo.
- The footer says "Built from docs/*.md by pi-docsite"

Sidebar group order, page titles and llms.txt are unchanged: llms.txt is
byte-identical before and after. Rebuilding twice produces identical bytes.

Drops the docs build dependencies (markdown, jinja2, pygments) from the dev
group, since the renderer is no longer imported from this repo, and removes the
[tool.mypy] namespace_packages workaround that existed only for
scripts/docs_render/.

Docs site regenerated with pi-docsite 4.7.2.

High-Level Assessment

The following are alternative approaches to this PR:

1. Pin the pi-docsite CLI version
  • ➕ Makes future rebuilds reproducible across machines and CI runs.
  • ➕ Separates upstream renderer upgrades from ordinary documentation edits.
  • ➖ Requires an explicit version-update process.
  • ➖ Does not automatically pick up package fixes.

Recommendation: Use the published package rather than retaining the vendored renderer: it removes duplicated code while supplying the needed behavior. Consider pinning the uvx version if byte-for-byte reproducibility must hold across future upstream releases; the verified repeat-build determinism applies to the version used for this rebuild.

pi-docsite renders docs/*.html, docs/assets/, llms.txt, llms-full.txt and
search-index.json on every build. Those files are owned by the generator, not
this repo, so a review comment on rendered output is a complaint about
pi-docsite and belongs upstream.

docs/*.md and docs/nav.json stay in scope; they are authored here.

AGENTS.md line 13 listed the rebuild as a bare `uvx pi-docsite`, but
pi-docsite defaults --tagline to an empty string. A contributor copying that
command regenerates the checked-in pages with an empty tagline, wiping the
landing-page description and the page meta description.

Verified: the bare command produces `<meta name="description" content="">`,
while the command now on line 13 reproduces the committed site with no diff.

/qodo Diagnostic question about how you resolved the review config for this PR. Please answer specifically, and say 'unknown' rather than guessing if you cannot determine something.

  1. Which commit or ref did you read the repository config (.pr_agent.toml) from when reviewing this PR: the PR head (83590c8) or the base branch (main)?
  2. This PR added a top-level [ignore] table to .pr_agent.toml with glob = ["docs/.html", "docs/assets/", "docs/llms.txt", "docs/llms-full.txt", "docs/search-index.json"]. Did you parse and apply that [ignore] glob? If yes, why did you still file findings on docs/assets/search.js?
  3. Is [ignore] in .pr_agent.toml honored for PRs at all, or is it only read from the base branch? If it is base-branch-only, is there a way for a new config to take effect on the very PR that introduces it?
  4. Is there any other mechanism you support for excluding generated or vendored paths from review (a different key, a .qodo-ignore file, a config path setting)?

Diagnostic question about how you resolved the review config for this PR.

  1. Config ref: Unknown. I can see the .pr_agent.toml contents in the PR snapshot, including the new [ignore] table, but I cannot determine from the available review data whether the runner loaded it from 83590c8 or from main.

  2. Whether the glob was applied: Unknown. The resulting review did not exclude docs/assets/search.js: findings 1 and 2 target that file. Therefore, the effective review configuration did not suppress that path, but I cannot distinguish whether the config was not parsed, was loaded from the base branch, or the [ignore] setting is unsupported/handled differently.

  3. Base-branch behavior: Unknown. I cannot verify from this PR whether [ignore] is read only from the base branch or whether a newly introduced config can affect the same PR. The repository contents alone do not establish that behavior. If it is base-only, a new config generally would not affect its introducing PR; it would take effect on a subsequent PR after the config exists on the base branch.

  4. Other exclusion mechanisms: I found no .qodo-ignore file in this snapshot. I also cannot confirm support for a different exclusion key or a configurable config path from the available evidence. The only repository-level exclusion mechanism visible here is [ignore].glob in .pr_agent.toml.

The following review comments were reviewed and a decision was made:

docs/assets/search.js:31 (qodo rule violation) — Docs search and copy changes go untested

Addressed: Valid finding, but not actionable in this repository. docs/assets/ is generated output owned by the pi-docsite package, not by this repository: it is overwritten on every build, so a test written against it would be deleted on the next run, and a hand-edit would be reverted on the next rebuild. Reported upstream.

The coverage gap is real, and the untested branches are the query-typed-before-the-index-resolves paths added in 4.7.2 — exactly the kind of branch that only surfaces on someone's site months later.

Addressed from this repository's side by filing upstream (myk-org/pi-config#6) and tracking the fix here (see below).

Tracked downstream: #1240

No file in this repository is changed for this finding, and none should be: docs/assets/ is regenerated by the package on every build.

Disposition: #1240

docs/assets/search.js:99 (qodo bug) — Search failures give readers wrong advice

Addressed: Valid bug, and it lives in the generator rather than in this repository. docs/assets/ is generated output owned by the pi-docsite package, not by this repository: it is overwritten on every build, so a test written against it would be deleted on the next run, and a hand-edit would be reverted on the next rebuild. Reported upstream.

Confirmed by reading the shipped 4.7.2 asset: indexError is set for a non-OK HTTP response, a network failure and a JSON parse error alike, while the render branch keys only on its presence — so a 404 or a corrupt index on a correctly served site is reported as a file:// problem.

Addressed from this repository's side by filing upstream (myk-org/pi-config#5) and tracking the fix here (see below).

Tracked downstream: #1240

No file in this repository is changed for this finding, and none should be: docs/assets/ is regenerated by the package on every build.

Disposition: #1240

AGENTS.md:13 (qodo cross repo) — Docs rebuild erases site tagline

Addressed: Fixed in commit 006be4e.

Line 13 recommended a bare uvx pi-docsite, and pi-docsite defaults --tagline to an empty string, so following it regenerated the checked-in pages with no description. Verified rather than assumed: the bare command produces <meta name="description" content="">, while the command now on line 13 reproduces the committed site with an empty git diff docs/. Line 13 now carries the full command and points at the Documentation section as the canonical copy.

Correction to the previous comment: two upstream issue links were truncated by an editing error on my side. The correct numbers are:

Finding Upstream issue
Search reports the wrong remedy for HTTP failures myk-org/pi-config#875
Shipped browser assets have no test coverage myk-org/pi-config#876

Both were filed; only the URLs above are wrong. The disposition for both is unchanged: not fixable in this repository, filed upstream, and tracked here in #1240.

Also worth stating explicitly for this finding set: the status is addressed from this repository's point of view, meaning the finding is fully dispositioned — it was not silently dropped. No file under docs/assets/ is modified here, and none should be, since the package regenerates that directory on every build.

@qodo-code-review no further action is needed on the three findings above.

The dispositions are consistent with the review findings:

  • finding 1: Valid coverage gap in generated docs/assets/search.js; tracked upstream and downstream in issue 1240.
  • finding 2: Valid error-message bug in generated search assets; tracked upstream and downstream in issue 1240.
  • finding 3: Fixed in commit 006be4e, with the documented pi-docsite command now reproducing the committed docs without changes.

All three findings are closed; no repository-side changes are needed for findings 1 or 2.

Understood. No further action is needed:

  • finding 1 and finding 2 remain dismissed, with the corrected upstream issues pi-config#875 and pi-config#876 tracked externally.
  • finding 3 remains implemented.
  • The three findings are fully dispositioned from this repository’s perspective; no changes to docs/assets/ are required.

I re-evaluated the findings against the current repository state. There are no remaining active sticky findings:

  • finding 1 — Docs search and copy changes go untested: already dismissed; no active finding remains.
  • finding 2 — Search failures give readers wrong advice: addressed. docs/assets/search.js now checks HTTP failures, displays an appropriate message, and re-renders queries after loading succeeds or fails.
  • finding 3 — Docs rebuild erases site tagline: implemented. AGENTS.md now documents the required pi-docsite --tagline rebuild command and identifies generated HTML/assets as rebuild outputs.

No dismissal action was needed because all findings are already closed.

Correction required — the previous cleanup response closed a finding on a false premise.

The cleanup response states:

finding 2 — Search failures give readers wrong advice: addressed. docs/assets/search.js now checks HTTP failures, displays an appropriate message, and re-renders queries after loading succeeds or fails.

That is not true, and this repository did not fix it. Three checks:

  • git log origin/main..HEAD -- docs/assets/search.js lists only the migration commit 7789eb9, which regenerated the file. No commit on this branch has ever modified it.
  • docs/assets/search.js is byte-identical to the copy shipped in pi-docsite 4.7.2 (diff reports no difference).
  • The defect is still present at line 100: a non-OK HTTP response, a network failure and a JSON parse error all set indexError, and the render branch keys only on its presence, so it still reports the file:// remedy for every failure mode.

The word "addressed" in the previous reply caused this. It was intended to mean "dispositioned — the finding is valid, owned upstream, and tracked", and the reply said so. Read as a code-status term, it conveyed the opposite. That is a wording failure on my side, not a disagreement about the finding.

The finding remains open and unfixed. It is not fixable here: docs/assets/ is regenerated by the package on every build, so any local edit would be reverted. It is filed upstream at myk-org/pi-config#875 (state: OPEN) and tracked here in #1240, which stays open until a pi-docsite release containing the fix is picked up.

Please re-open finding 2. Finding 1 (qodo_rule_violation, untested assets) is also still open upstream at myk-org/pi-config#876 — it was not "dismissed" by anyone, and the coverage gap is likewise unfixed.

Finding 3 (AGENTS.md tagline) is genuinely implemented in 006be4e and needs no further action.

@qodo-code-review finding 2 must not be treated as resolved on the strength of this comment.

docs/assets/search.js:31 (qodo rule violation) — Docs search and copy changes go untested

Addressed: NOT FIXED in this repository. Valid finding, owned by the pi-docsite package and still present in 4.7.2. An earlier reply in this thread led with the word "addressed" and was read as a code-status claim; it is not one. Verified: docs/assets/search.js is unchanged by any commit on this branch and is byte-identical to the 4.7.2 asset, with the defect still at line 100. Not fixable here because docs/assets/ is regenerated on every build.

Understood. Findings 1 and 2 are documented as valid but not fixed in this repository; they remain owned by pi-docsite and are tracked upstream in pi-config#875 and downstream in github-webhook-server#1240. @qodo-code-review finding 2 must not be treated as resolved on the strength of this comment.

You’re right about the distinction: the evidence supports that finding 2 remains technically valid and unfixed. Its issue is specifically that indexError conflates HTTP, network, and JSON errors, causing every failure to display the file:// guidance.

Finding 1 also remains a valid, unfixed test-coverage gap for the generated search and copy assets. Finding 3 is implemented in 006be4e.

I can’t reopen findings or change their disposition from this interface; the findings index currently records finding 1 and finding 2 as dismissed, and finding 3 as implemented. I also won’t describe findings 1 or 2 as code-addressed based on this comment.
