### ✅ Approve — minimal, correct security patch bump (re-review after Renovate rebase)
- ✅ Patch bump
vite 8.3.0 → 8.3.3 under devDependencies; the pin style (exact) and the rest of package.json are untouched.
- ✅
bun.lock transitive bumps are internally consistent: rolldown 1.2.6 → 1.2.15 (satisfies vite 8.3.3's declared ~1.2.11), @oxc-project/types 0.147.0 → 0.155.0 (rolldown pins exactly =0.155.0), all 15 @rolldown/binding-* platform packages aligned at 1.2.15.
- ✅ Vite 8.3.3 pulls transitive
launch-editor@2.14.2, which remediates GHSA‑587h‑7wmj‑h5pm, GHSA‑698v‑4r3x‑3vcv, and GHSA‑9jrq‑w75r‑8gcw.
- ❔ Residual exposure for this repo is low:
vite is devDependency only, the Windows advisories require a Windows host, and the cross-origin HTML-transform issue requires custom-middleware mode.

Renovate rebased this PR onto a newer lockfile snapshot (commit a8fdd7a). The user-visible change — vite 8.3.0 → 8.3.3 — is unchanged; only the lockfile's transitive resolutions moved slightly:
| Package | Previous review | This review |
|---|---|---|
rolldown |
1.2.14 |
1.2.15 |
@oxc-project/types |
0.154.0 |
0.155.0 |
@rolldown/binding-* |
1.2.14 |
1.2.15 |
Additionally, the six linux @rolldown/binding-* entries now carry upstream libc metadata ("libc": "glibc" / "libc": "musl") — this is a lockfile-manifest change propagated from upstream and has no behavioral impact for consumers.
Why this is good
- Correct remediation target. Vite's 8.3.3 CHANGELOG explicitly lists
deps: update launch-editor to v2.14.2(vitejs/vite#23654), which is the release that contains the fixes for the launch-editor advisories referenced in the PR body. ThetransformIndexHtmlcross-origin fix (GHSA‑9jrq‑w75r‑8gcw) is also in the 8.3.x line. - Patch-range only.
8.3.0→8.3.3is three patches on the same minor; no public API surface changes expected to affect this repo. - Lockfile is internally consistent. vite 8.3.3's
rolldown ~1.2.11is satisfied by the resolved1.2.15; rolldown 1.2.15's exact pin on@oxc-project/types=0.155.0matches the lockfile. All platform bindings move in lockstep. - Pin style matches repo convention.
package.jsonelsewhere uses exact versions (no caret/tilde) and this PR preserves that.
Impact on this repo specifically
vite is a devDependency; the vulnerable launch-editor paths are reached via Vite's dev server click-to-source behavior and launch-editor-middleware, not in production bundles shipped to users. The highest-severity advisory (GHSA‑587h‑7wmj‑h5pm, 7.5) requires a Windows host, and the custom-middleware HTML-transform advisory requires an appType: 'custom' / server.middlewareMode: true setup that doesn't apply to a standard SPA build. So while the fix is worth taking, the exposure window for this repo's typical contributors is narrow. Updating is still the right call — defense in depth, and keeping the lock aligned with upstream security advisories is cheap.
CI note (not part of the verdict)
The security / Security check is reporting FAILURE while the other required CI jobs are passing or still running. Per the review instructions I'm not basing the verdict on CI. If that job is still flagging launch-editor after this bump, worth confirming it's reading the post-bump lockfile (osv-scanner should see launch-editor@2.14.2 and clear the three GHSAs). If it's an unrelated finding, raise it in a separate issue — nothing in this diff should regress it.

Summary
launch-editorcheckedfs.existsSync(fileName)before passing a supplied path to an editor command. On Windows, an attacker can bypass this check with a crafted path ending in\\..:line:column. This removes the requirement that the attacker be able to place a file with a malicious filename.Combined with the
%escaping issue described in GHSA-698v-4r3x-3vcv, this bypass can lead to OS command injection when an attacker controls the file argument.Impact
Only apps that runs on Windows is affected.
Details
The earlier advisory assumed that
fs.existsSync()required an attacker-controlled filename to exist. This advisory covers a bypass of that requirement.A crafted value ending in
\\..:1:1is interpreted differently bylaunch-editor-middleware,launch-editor, and Windows:launch-editor-middlewarecallspath.resolve()while the final path component is..:1:1, so it is not treated as a parent-directory component.launch-editortreats:1:1as a line-and-column suffix and removes it, leaving a path ending in\\...fs.existsSync()accepts the resulting path as the existing parent directory even though the attacker-controlled preceding component does not exist.Severity

Vite: Cross origin script execution through Vite custom middleware
CVE-2026-112945 / GHSA-9jrq-w75r-8gcw

Summary
When accessing a malicious site while a dev server using Vite is running, that site was able to load scripts in a page served by the dev server.
Impact
Only apps that match the following conditions are affected:
server.transformIndexHtml: this is normally used forserver.middlewareMode: trueorappType: 'custom'. The internal call forappType: 'spa'andappType: 'mpa'does not match this.Details
Vite's SSR guide for 8.2.1 documents the affected setup. The application embeds Vite in middleware mode, reads trusted HTML, and passes the browser's unchanged request URL to the transform:
For a development server at
http://localhost:5173, an attacker can send this URL:In Vite 8.2.1,
createDevHtmlTransformFnandgetHtmlFilenameinindexHtml.tsuse the request URL as both the transformpathand the input topath.join. The value passed topath.joinstill includes its query text.Chromium preserves
/../../package.jsonbecause it follows?and is therefore query text. Vite treats the same characters as filesystem path components, so the..components resolve the derived filename to the existing projectpackage.json.The existing file branch in
indexHtml.tschecks that filename withfs.existsSync, then preserves thehtmlPathsupplied by the attacker asproxyModuleUrl. The inline module rewrite in the same file writes that value into the generatedsrc:The generated value is a valid URL. Its leading
//tells the browser to request the module fromevil.exampleusing the Vite page's scheme. The attacker returns JavaScript for that request, and Chromium executes it in the Vite page.PoC

launchEditor(file)function passes the file name as-is to the editor if the file with that file name exists. If the file name starts with-(also+for Vim), the editor treats them as flags rather than positional arguments. For example, Vim treats arguments starting with+as an Ex command. As a result, an existing relative directory such as:is not treated as a filename when passed to Vim. Vim executes the embedded Ex command.
The following editor has a potentially destructive operation exposed to the CLI arguments:
launch-editor-middlewarev2.2.0+ converts the passed file path to an absolute path so those are not affected as long as the user is not using WSL. For WSL,launch-editorconverts the paths to relative paths internally, so those are still affected.Vite 2.0.0+ uses
launch-editor-middlewarev2.2.0+ so the WSL users are only affected.Severity

Vite: Files outside

server.fs.allowoption can be returned to the browser when a project imports a file whose root-relative path matches an absolute path on the host. For example, referencing<project-root>/etc/hostscould make Vite return the host's/etc/hostsfile.Impact
Only apps that meet all of the following conditions are affected:
--hostor theserver.hostoption)server.fs.denyDetails
When Vite analyzes an in-root import, it rewrites the resolved module ID to a browser URL such as
/etc/hostname. In affected versions, Vite converts that URL withfsPathFromUrland adds the result tosafeModulePaths. BecausefsPathFromUrlensures a leading slash without resolving the URL against the project root, the project URL/etc/hostnameis recorded as if it were the absolute filesystem path/etc/hostname.For a later request to
/@fs/etc/hostname, the raw-filesystem middleware interprets/etc/hostnameas an absolute path. The access check appliesserver.fs.deny, then accepts paths present insafeModulePathsbefore checkingserver.fs.allow. As a result, the request can return the host file instead of the project file that originally populatedsafeModulePaths.PoC

Vite: First 4 bytes of files outside of

Summary
The first 4 bytes of files outside of
server.fssetting can be returned to the browser by a request containing?vite-wasm-instance.Impact
Only apps that match one of the following conditions are affected:
--hostor theserver.hostoptionDetails
Requests containing the
?vite-wasm-instancequery are handled by the internal Wasm plugin'sloadhook. The hook removes the query and reads the resulting path directly from disk, but theserver.fschecks were not applied. After reading the file, Vite attempts to parse it as WebAssembly. When that parse fails, Node and deno throws an error that contains the first 4 bytes of the file.
