Late Copilot finding on PR #134 head 2110ff7, filed under the repository's two-round review cap. native_newest selects the highest executable filename before validating --version. If that file is broken or times out, add_candidate drops it without considering older native versions. Offline, this can report no runnable Claude even with a working older native installation.

Select the highest native candidate whose bounded version probe succeeds, or collect runnable native candidates before choosing. Add an offline regression with a broken or hanging newest executable and a working older version.
