[Bug]: If i scroll up to read text, the main panel keeps scrolling me back down if it's 'working' - this is infuriating

Steps to reproduce

1. Get the text in the main window to a few pages height
2. Start a task on something so claude or codex is doing something
3. Scroll up to read what it was saying before

It keeps scrolling down, really really annoying and i'm afraid i'm moving to CMUX now. It doesn't do this and it lets me zoom in and lets me use all my skills and /resume and all the rest of the stuff i'm used to from ghostty.

Expected behavior

I expect when I scroll up for the scroll position to stay where I directed, I do not expect it to scroll back down just so I can see 'Thinking...' or 'Working...'

Actual behavior

It scrolls to somewhere I don't want it to be, this prevents me reading text it output previously while I have it working on a fresh task. I'm off to CMUX guys, good luck. I think your idea is good, but I don't think you should have reinvented the terminal window part for these coding agents which are TUI-based.

Triage note: there is already an open PR for this — #3936 — which is not currently linked from this issue.

I reproduced this with instrumentation on stock main (100ms sampling of scroll position, content height, and scroll-to-end-pill visibility, scrolling with a trackpad during a streaming turn) and posted the capture on that PR: #3936 (comment)

Short version: 4 snap-backs in a 165s session, all with scrollHeight unchanged, including one that threw the viewport 842px down from 692px above the live edge. The scroll-to-end pill never appeared in any of the 390 samples, so live-follow was never detaching.

Cross-referencing so this does not get triaged as new work: #3925 is the feature request, #3936 is the fix.
