Briefcase is an application packaging tool (part of the BeeWare project). It has a plugin interface that gives third parties the option to provide alternate bootstraps for new projects, support for alternative platforms, and support for alternative packaging formats.
There are several known plugins at this time; the hope is that there will be more in future.
