When getTokenjuiceSettings() rejects on mount, settings stays null and
all seven switches render as unchecked — indistinguishable from
"compression is genuinely off". A user could click a switch and write a
value against the incorrect displayed state.
Fix: pass disabled={settings === null} to all seven SettingsSwitch
instances and the SettingsNumberField. The existing SettingsStatusLine
error message already tells the user what went wrong; the disabled
controls now match that error state rather than contradicting it.
Closes tinyhumansai#5899

A savings failure should not disable the compression controls. Replace the Promise.all with sequential loads so settings success keeps all switches interactive even when getTokenjuiceSavings rejects. Tests: add spinbutton (CCR min-tokens field) coverage, add the savings-only-fails case, and wait directly on the rendered disabled state in failure tests rather than on mock call count (more robust against async timing).

Surface savings errors via setError (consistent with loadSavings) so
a savings failure is visible while controls stay interactive.
Tests: use findByText('rpc down') / findByText('savings rpc down') to
wait for the rendered error before asserting disabled/enabled state,
ruling out the initial settings === null state giving a false pass.

Re-review — approving
Re-checked: CI green (11/11), zero unresolved threads, mergeable.
Restating the part that deserves the credit, because it is not in #5899 and I
missed it when filing: splitting Promise.all([getTokenjuiceSettings(), getTokenjuiceSavings()]) matters on its own. Under the combined await, a
savings rejection left settings null — so once disabled={settings === null} existed, a failing statistics call would have disabled every
configuration control. The independent loads mean a savings failure degrades
only the savings display.
The disabled fix itself closes the dangerous half properly, and "does not
call patch when a disabled switch is clicked" pins the hazard rather than the
appearance.
One thing for whoever merges — not a blocker
Add/add conflict with #5881. Both create
app/src/components/settings/panels/__tests__/TokenUsagePanel.test.tsx (this one
+157, #5881 +371). #5881 also contains a case that pins the old behaviour —
"shows em-dash placeholders and no crash when the savings load rejects" — which
this PR deliberately changes, so the merge needs a human read rather than a
mechanical resolution.
Land this one first; I will rebase #5881 onto it and update that stale case.
tinyhumansai#5925 merged its own `TokenUsagePanel.test.tsx` covering the new disabled-while-settings-unavailable semantics. Both files legitimately exist — theirs pins the disabled/enabled contract, ours covers formatters, patch paths, the CCR min-tokens field, refresh/reset and the chrome variants (29 cases). Renaming rather than merging: the two use different harnesses (ours a `renderPanel()` helper, theirs a direct `render`), and folding one into the other unverified would risk silently dropping coverage. The repo already splits by concern this way — `AgentsPanel.removal`, `CoreConnectionPanel.urlValidation`, `DevicesPanel.formatting`. Checked for contradiction: our savings-failure case rejects BOTH loads, so under tinyhumansai#5925's decoupling it still holds (settings fails, controls disable, placeholders render). Theirs covers the savings-only path, which is the new behaviour.

…settings failure paths Six merged PRs changed behaviour that no e2e test exercised. An audit of the three lanes found the changed symbols present in e2e files for three of them — `run_subagent` in nine, `handoff` in eighteen, both profile panels in a Playwright spec — with none of those tests driving the changed path. The repo's domain e2e gate counts literals, so all three read as covered. Rust: - tinyhumansai#5810 `run_subagent` refuses a dispatch after a cap pause, and when less wall-clock remains than the turn's slowest completed child. Both cases install a real `turn_dispatch_guard` (the gate is a no-op outside a turn scope, so a test that skips it exercises nothing) and assert the provider was never reached — the refusal is meant to cost nothing. Each drives an allowed dispatch through the same guard first, so a gate that refused unconditionally could not pass. - tinyhumansai#5772 `probe_alive` returns a four-variant `ProbeOutcome`; the existing test only asked `.is_alive()`, which is false for all three non-alive variants alike. Pins `Missing` for an entry that was never connected, `TimedOut` for a demonstrably healthy server probed with an unmeetable window, and that the session survives it. Also pins the 8s default probe window that b44b958d restored. - tinyhumansai#5852 `wait_agents` prunes a terminal child, so a second wait misses. The one semantic change in an otherwise-deletion PR; it lived only in prose. - tinyhumansai#5839 the `memory_diff` RPC surface answers unknown-method on the live router, and the memory domain still answers. The existing removal regression reads the registry as a data structure, so a re-registration behind a different namespace would satisfy it. Playwright: - tinyhumansai#5944 a failing profile save, activate and delete each show the backend's reason and not `[object Object]`. Every existing test in that spec is a happy path, which is how the defect shipped and was then pinned as expected. - tinyhumansai#5925 a settings-load failure disables every compression switch; a savings failure leaves them usable. The second is the half the old `Promise.all` broke.
