fix(modules): prepare module storage callbacks on the module runtime - #8454
The tinymcp/tinyeventqueues storage-callback endpoint is now prepared on the module runtime instead of the caller's tokio runtime.
This fixes mcp_registry_e2e failing in a single test process (the CI Fast path). per_config_auth_failure_surfaces_401_reason_without_cross_workspace_leak failed with MODULE_CALL_REPORTED: module execution failed whenever another test in the process had loaded tinymcp first.
Problem
modules/ops.rs keeps the storage callback binding for tinymcp/tinyeventqueues for the whole process (STORAGE_CALLBACK_LOADS). Once the module is Ready, every later workspace's client reuses it.
storage_host::prepare_callbacks served that binding's endpoint on the runtime of whichever caller loaded the module first: it took Handle::current() and spawned the serve task there.
When that runtime ended, the callback peer was gone for good. A trace of the one-process run shows the module's second-test storage call failing: tinybus::broker: routing failed peer=:1.5 error=no peer owns the name ':1.4', then reason="module_fault". :1.4 had attached in the first test.
In tests, each #[tokio::test] runtime ends after its test. nextest hides this by giving each test its own process. In the product, the same thing happens to any host whose first module-loading runtime ends while the process continues: MCP and event-queue storage fail until restart.
No data crosses workspaces. The later calls fail; they don't reach another workspace's storage.
Solution
prepare_module_callbacks takes the &'static ModuleRuntime it already had and runs prepare_callbacks through runtime.spawn. The endpoint, its handle and its serve task now live on the module runtime for the life of the process. modules/runtime.rs already does this for the other host callbacks ("must outlive whichever runtime asked first").
prepare_module_callbacks has one caller (ensure_loaded_with_storage_callback), and it serves both modules.

Intended behavior change: the module storage callback endpoint lives on the module runtime.
User-visible effect: MCP and event-queue storage keep working after the runtime that first loaded the module ends.
Parity Contract
Legacy behavior preserved: the same binding, the same live storage policy, the same per-module scope. Only the runtime the endpoint runs on changes.
Guard/fallback/dispatch parity checks: a join failure maps to tinybus::Error::Transport, the same error class the callback install already returns.

Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Storage callback preparation now runs through the module runtime and waits for the task to finish. Task join failures are reported as transport errors with a storage-callback failure message, making these failures more clearly identifiable. This improves error reporting when callback preparation does not complete successfully and helps distinguish these failures from other storage-related issues.
The tinymcp/tinyeventqueues storage callback binding is cached for the
process (STORAGE_CALLBACK_LOADS), but its endpoint was served on the runtime
of whichever caller loaded the module first. When that runtime ended, the
module's storage callback peer disappeared and every later call failed with
module_fault (seen as mcp_registry_e2e's second test failing in one
process). Prepare it on the module runtime, as the other host callbacks
already are.

What changed
In `crates/openhuman-core/src/modules/storage_host.rs`, `prepare_module_callbacks` now takes `runtime: &'static tinybus::module::ModuleRuntime` and runs `prepare_callbacks(runtime.connection(), runtime.host())` via `runtime.spawn(...).await`, mapping join failures through a new private helper `callbacks_join_failed`, which converts a `tokio::task::JoinError` into `tinybus::Error::Transport` with a "the module storage callbacks did not finish" message. Previously it took a non-static runtime reference and prepared callbacks directly (using the caller's current runtime). The doc comment now explains that the process-lifetime binding requires an endpoint that outlives the loading runtime, matching the host callbacks in `super::runtime`. A new test, `a_callback_task_that_does_not_finish_is_a_transport_error`, lives in `crates/openhuman-core/src/modules/storage_host_tests.rs` and asserts a panicked task joined through `callbacks_join_failed` yields a `Transport` error with the expected message prefix.
Features
Modified — Storage-callback endpoint lifetime for tinymcp/tinyeventqueues: The endpoint, its handle, and its serve task are now created on the module runtime rather than the caller's runtime, so MCP and event-queue storage are intended to keep working after the runtime that first loaded the module ends. Per the description, the same binding, live storage policy, and per-module scope are preserved. (crates/openhuman-core/src/modules/storage_host.rspub(crate) async fn install()
Modified — Signature tightened to &'static ModuleRuntime: Makes the outlives-the-binding requirement explicit at the type level. The critique and tests lanes answered that the sole caller in `ops.rs` already holds a `&'static ModuleRuntime` and can supply it. (crates/openhuman-core/src/modules/storage_host.rspub(crate) async fn install()
Added — callbacks_join_failed join-error mapping: A callback preparation task that panics or is cancelled before returning a binding is surfaced as `tinybus::Error::Transport` with a descriptive message, matching the error class already used by the callback install path. Extracted into a named helper so the mapping can be exercised directly. (crates/openhuman-core/src/modules/storage_host.rspub(crate) async fn install()
Added — Unit test for the join-failure mapping: New test `a_callback_task_that_does_not_finish_is_a_transport_error` spawns a panicking task, joins it, and asserts the mapped error is `Transport` with the expected message prefix. It pins the helper's mapping but does not use real module runtimes. (crates/openhuman-core/src/modules/storage_host_tests.rsasync fn a_key_provider_failure_at_bind_is_retried_not_cached() {)
Tests
new_unit_test — `a_callback_task_that_does_not_finish_is_a_transport_error` in `storage_host_tests.rs` spawns a task that panics, joins it to obtain a `JoinError`, and asserts `callbacks_join_failed` returns `tinybus::Error::Transport` whose message starts with "the module storage callbacks did not finish".: Added in the diff and exercises exactly the new helper. The tests lane answered that this is the branch the diff introduces; it made no claim of execution results. (crates/openhuman-core/src/modules/storage_host_tests.rsasync fn a_key_provider_failure_at_bind_is_retried_not_cached() {)
claim_not_pinned_by_test — The central behavioural claim — that the endpoint returned by `prepare_module_callbacks` survives the caller's runtime being dropped — is not asserted by any test in the diff.: The tests lane answered that existing tests (`a_key_provider_failure_at_bind_is_retried_not_cached` and the storage cdylib tests) exercise `prepare_module_callbacks` but none asserts endpoint survival past the caller's runtime; it reported no defect meeting its bar. (crates/openhuman-core/src/modules/storage_host.rspub(crate) async fn install(, crates/openhuman-core/src/modules/storage_host_tests.rsasync fn a_key_provider_failure_at_bind_is_retried_not_cached() {)

Conclusion: Success
Scope reviewed: all assigned evidence
Lane summary: The change moves `prepare_module_callbacks` onto the module runtime and threads a panic/cancel join failure into a transport error; the new test exercises the join-error mapping without touching real runtimes. I found no defect in the changed lines: the sole caller in `ops.rs` already holds a `&'static ModuleRuntime`, the future passed to `spawn` is self-contained, and `callbacks_join_failed` is covered by the added test. I could not inspect `ModuleRuntime::spawn` itself (vendor/tinybus is not checked out), so I take the diff's assumption that it returns a joinable handle on the module runtime as given. _The code index is behind this pull request (indexed at `bffd844a5cb3`), so retrieved context may be out of date._

Positive: The security lane answered that nothing reachable goes wrong and reported no defect; it noted only that the test name referenced in the description does not match the test body, which it did not treat as a reportable defect.
Lane summary: The change wraps callback preparation in a task on the module runtime and maps join failures to a transport error; the new test exercises only that mapping. Nothing reachable goes wrong, and the only concern is that the test name in the description does not match its body, which is not a reportable defect. _The code index is behind this pull request (indexed at `bffd844a5cb3`), so retrieved context may be out of date._

Conclusion: Success
Scope reviewed: all assigned evidence
Positive: The tests lane answered that the added test exercises the new `callbacks_join_failed` mapping that this diff introduces, and reported no defect meeting its bar; it noted it could not read `vendor/tinybus` to confirm the spawn return type.
Lane summary: The change only routes callback preparation through the module runtime's own executor so the binding outlives the caller's runtime, and the added test exercises the new `callbacks_join_failed` mapping from a panicked join to a `Transport` error, which is the branch this diff introduces. The behavioural claim — the endpoint outlives the caller's runtime — is not pinned by any test in the diff; existing tests (`a_key_provider_failure_at_bind_is_retried_not_cached`, the storage cdylib tests) exercise `prepare_module_callbacks` but none asserts the returned endpoint survives the caller's runtime being dropped. I was unable to read `vendor/tinybus`'s `ModuleRuntime::spawn` to confirm it returns `JoinHandle<tinybus::Result<...>>` and that `?` lifts the inner result, since the submodule is not checked out here. _The code index is behind this pull request (indexed at `bffd844a5cb3`), so retrieved context may be out of date._

prepare_module_callbacks now requires a 'static module runtime and runs callback preparation as a task on that runtime. It maps task-join failures to tinybus::Error::Transport. A test checks this mapping when a task panics.

Summary
Spawn, await, and handle callback preparation crates/openhuman-core/src/modules/storage_host.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/modules/storage_host_tests.rs
prepare_module_callbacks uses the module runtime’s connection and host in a spawned task. It maps task-join failures to a transport error. A test checks the error for a panicking task.
The runtime change appears correct, but its key lifetime behavior is untested, so a later regression could reintroduce storage callback failures after the caller runtime ends.

Exercise prepare_module_callbacks in the runtime-affinity test.
a_callback_task_that_does_not_finish_is_a_transport_error calls callbacks_join_failed directly. It never calls prepare_module_callbacks or verifies that prepare_callbacks runs on the static ModuleRuntime. The test would pass even if the implementation reverted to the caller runtime, so it does not cover the behavior changed by this PR.
Add a test that invokes prepare_module_callbacks through the module runtime, lets the caller runtime end, and then verifies that the prepared callback remains usable.
