feat(inference): add host-composable provider APIs - #123
Conversation
feat(providers): add typed route and extensible preset APIs
feat(catalog): fetch provider model catalogs
feat(failure): add shared provider failure policies
…s/mod.rs,crates/tinyinference-l Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
fix: preserve TinyHumans managed billing semantics
Introduce a provider-neutral response converter that preserves native tool calls and thinking content while parsing advertised pformat tools. Add BilledUsage to carry exact USD charges alongside normalized token counts, and expose reasoning effort parsing plus output-room budgeting helpers. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly

feat(llm): resolve context windows for provider routes
The `ProfileOverrideModel` now uses an optional `profile` field, allowing it to wrap an inner model while preserving its original profile if no explicit profile is provided during construction. A new constructor, `new_preserving_profile`, was added to facilitate this behavior. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Refactors the RequestRecorder struct to explicitly hold the profile and updates related tests to use the new structure, improving clarity in how profiles are managed during testing. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
The signature for supports_input was simplified by removing unnecessary arguments from the function definition. This cleans up the test code without changing its behavior. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly

feat(llm): add native budget admission decorators
…tests Add a detailed connection test that reports whether a provider test failed while constructing the model or while invoking it, so hosts with distinct error contracts can tell the two apart. The existing test_embedding_connection now delegates to it and flattens the result back to a plain error. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
fix(embeddings): preserve connection test failure stages
Chat model entries can now carry provider-owned model metadata covering defaults, alias and raw-model classification, vision support, context windows, pricing, and request hints. This lets a consuming host consult the selected provider's model vocabulary and callbacks without the overrides registry having to store or select providers itself. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
The inline callback types on ProviderModelMetadata are now named aliases (ModelRoleLookup, ContextModelResolver, ModelContextWindowLookup) so the struct's fields read more clearly and the signatures can be reused. No behaviour changes. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>

223-224: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick winReturn the crate-wide
Result<T>from the catalog listing API.
CatalogListingandlist_catalogare public and fallible, but they returnstd::result::Result<Value, String>. AStringerror does not let callers classify the failure, such as an auth failure, a transport failure, or a malformed payload.ReadinessProbehas the sameStringerror type, at Line 87.This is a new public API. Fixing the error type now avoids a breaking change later. If callers need to tell failures apart, add a typed
Errorvariant. Hosts can then returnOk(json)orErr(Error::...)from their callbacks.♻️ Proposed change

Per the description, TinyInference now owns the provider, route, context-window, managed-auth, embedding-verification, model-catalog, failure-policy, and local-runtime/voice APIs consumed by OpenHuman and TinyAgents, rolling up the fork epic PRs (#15–26, #28, #34–46). The tests, commits, and description lanes answered; the tests lane found no reportable defects and stated the earlier critical finding about a committed private key does not stand, since the PEM in `crates/tinyinference-llm/src/providers/http_tests.rs` is a public ISRG Root X1 CA certificate and the private-key test uses a synthetic marker. The commits lane reported no sensitive content in committed files and noted one earlier finding remains open. The description lane also reported the earlier critical finding no longer stands and found no reportable defect. No new findings are reported here and none are softened. Rate limit detection now runs before the non-retryable checks so that per-minute quota errors carrying a 429 status stay retryable instead of being misclassified as exhausted quota. Malformed native tool call arguments are preserved as invalid calls rather than dropped, and the embeddings test server now reads full request bodies before responding. …nges Bootstrap results were considered valid based only on the enabled state, so switching provider or base URL reused a stale result. The service now records a fingerprint of the relevant config fields at bootstrap time and compares it when deciding whether an existing result still matches. Introduced a BootstrapConfigFingerprint alias for the tuple used to track the last bootstrap configuration, and used it in the service field and fingerprint helper. This makes the tuple's purpose explicit without changing behaviour. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
