feat: take over status, timeout, policy engine and tool-result helpers from OpenHuman core - #66
Conversation
…/status/mod.rs,crates/tinytools Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
…/status/ops.rs Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Mark the failure classification and description helpers as must_use and allow the long classifier function, so callers cannot silently drop a result. Doc comments now wrap OpenHuman in backticks and the test module allows the usual unwrap and panic lints. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Wrap the TinyComputer reference in the delegated-task marker doc comment in backticks so it renders as code, matching the surrounding documentation style. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
The timeout implementation is broken up into separate modules for command environment handling, group exit, output, process cleanup, and settings so each concern can be read and tested on its own. Behaviour is unchanged. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Adds a timeout module that bounds tool execution, kills the whole process group on expiry and reaps the child, and enables tokio's macros feature to support it. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
The timeout output stream now keeps whatever was written before the deadline instead of discarding it, so callers still see partial results from a timed-out operation. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Reformat the timeout module to satisfy rustfmt and add Debug to CommandEnvironment and ProcessCleanup so they can be inspected in logs and test failures. The dropped-future test now drives output_unbounded instead of cmd.output() so the child is not reaped before the assertion runs. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Replaced the panics when a child's stdout or stderr is not piped with `io::Error` returns so callers get a recoverable failure. Also added `#[must_use]` to the pure accessors and scoped clippy allows for the timeout module and its tests. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
…ure/kill, cleanup, command environment) Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
The policy engine now records and exposes denials so callers can see why a request was rejected. Prompt rendering and registry types were updated to carry the denial information through to consumers. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Add a deferral utility that lets work be scheduled to run after the current scope completes, along with tests covering its behaviour. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
The policy engine now recognises deferral decisions and routes them through the new deferral module, letting agents postpone a tool call instead of allowing or denying it outright. Types and tests were extended to cover the new outcome. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Re-export the agent policy and registry types from the crate root so downstream consumers can reach them without depending on internal module paths. Also simplify the permission parsing helpers and drop host-specific naming from the registry docs. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Introduce an agent policy module that evaluates tool calls against configurable rules and returns allow or deny decisions with reasons. Denial tracking in the registry records blocked calls so the prompt layer can surface them back to the agent. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Denial timestamps now saturate at i64::MAX instead of wrapping when the millisecond value exceeds the signed range. Import ordering and lock formatting were also tidied up. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Adds a web_fetch tool that fetches content from a URL and returns it as text, along with a read-only filesystem helper used to sandbox the operation. Tests cover both the fetch behaviour and the read-only filesystem restrictions. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Rewrapped a module doc line and reworded a comment to refer to hosts rather than a specific product. Moved the `must_use` attributes below the doc comments on the two public predicates so the docs read first. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Wrap the TinyJuice reference in backticks within the read-only filesystem module documentation so the identifier renders as code. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly

Keep permission decisions in the host
Move this resolution back to the host: permission_for_channel encodes OpenHuman-specific enforcement policy—including treating an empty map as Dangerous and unknown channels as ReadOnly—so every host linking the vocabulary crate now inherits another host's security defaults. TinyTools may expose the relevant types, but repository guidance explicitly places decisions about permission sufficiency in the host.

Keep denial history scoped to a host instance
Replace this process-global denial buffer with host-owned state. When multiple host instances or tenants share a process, record writes all denial metadata into the same static queue and list can return another instance's tool names, policies, and reasons; there is no instance key or isolation boundary. It also introduces precisely the registry and enforcement state that this vocabulary crate promises not to hold.

Terminate descendant processes on non-Unix timeouts
Implement a platform-appropriate process-tree boundary here rather than making process grouping a no-op. On Windows and other non-Unix targets, cancellation only calls start_kill() on the direct child, so a timed-out shell can leave its grandchildren running and performing side effects even after output_or_kill reports a timeout; this defeats the primary safety guarantee of the newly added helper.

Restore missing-docs enforcement for the policy API
Remove this module-wide exemption and document the newly exported fields and variants instead. The allow suppresses missing_docs for the entire current and future public policy surface, bypassing the workspace's CI guardrail rather than addressing its warnings; the repository explicitly forbids adding blanket lint allowances to obtain a green build.

Require policy markers at the producer prefix
Use the same prefix-aware check used for the not-found and unsupported markers. With contains, any arbitrary tool error or upstream response that merely quotes [policy-blocked] is classified as a host policy refusal, while [policy-denied] has the same problem below; callers then suppress retry and present misleading safety-setting guidance even though the security gate did not produce the marker.

Restrict sed to read-only scripts.
sed -n 'w out.txt' file passes this classifier, although w writes a file and e can execute a command. Restrict sed to a parsed allowlist of read-only scripts, such as -n with approved range-and-p commands, and add regression tests for w, W, and e.
This classifier controls summary skipping, not command execution. The issue is an incorrect read-only classification, not a direct command-execution bypass.

Sensitive Data Exposure
Reachability: External
Exploitability: Difficult
CWE: CWE-532 — Insertion of Sensitive Information into Log File
Broaden the redaction logic or document its limits.
redact_sensitive uses four case-sensitive substring checks. Common secret formats such as lowercase bearer , password=, api_key=, AKIA keys, xoxb- tokens, and github_pat_ tokens can pass through unchanged before they are returned by ToolPolicyDiagnostics.recent_denials. Make the checks case-insensitive, extend the marker list, and document that redaction is best effort. The existing sk- match can also over-redact harmless text, which is a safe failure direction.

Keep automatic-retry policy in the host
Do not classify Timeout and Unknown as universally safe to retry: an external-effect tool can complete its write and then time out or return an unrecognized error while producing the response, so a host trusting recoverable may repeat an email, payment, or destructive command. Retryability needs the call's side-effect/idempotency context and host policy rather than a class-only mapping in the vocabulary crate.

Move inherited timeout defaults back to the host
Do not install a process-wide 120-second deadline when a host has not called configure: this makes ToolTimeout::Inherit bounded according to TinyTools' policy rather than the embedding host's threat model and configuration. A host that intentionally supplies no timeout policy will therefore have long-running calls killed unexpectedly; the host should provide the inherited value and decide whether a timeout applies.

Validate timeout bounds before calling clamp
Reject or normalize inverted bounds in TimeoutSettings::new; the public constructor accepts any min_ms and max_ms, but resolve(ToolTimeout::Millis(_)) panics here whenever min_ms > max_ms because u64::clamp requires an ordered range. No documented precondition warns callers, and a malformed host configuration can therefore crash a library code path.

Remove the blanket timeout lint exemptions
Replace these module-wide exemptions with fixes and targeted documentation, especially clippy::missing_errors_doc: the newly public fallible process APIs lack the required # Errors contracts, while the other broad allowances also suppress future violations throughout the module. This bypasses the repository's explicit guardrail rather than keeping the exported API compliant.

Restore missing-docs enforcement for registry types
Remove this module-wide missing_docs exemption and document the newly exported diagnostic structs and fields. As written, it disables the workspace's public-documentation guardrail for the entire current and future registry surface solely to let undocumented public items compile.

Redact secret markers without case sensitivity
Normalize case before checking these markers, or policy diagnostics advertised as redacted can expose credentials whenever the denial reason contains valid variants such as authorization: bearer …, SK-…, or GHP_…. record accepts arbitrary reason text and publishes the unchanged value through list, so capitalization alone currently bypasses the only redaction step.
