Summary

  • route pm context and pm next through the public SDK signal store with metadata-index cursor provenance and isolated projection namespaces
  • persist caller-independent activity/graph/priority/risk/knowledge signals while recomputing author, clock, semantic, and usage overlays per read
  • expose positive --token-budget controls and explained feature-store metadata across CLI, SDK, MCP schemas, runtime contracts, and generated fixtures
  • expose the effective transactional metadata-index cursor without leaking runtime file layout; harden corrupt-state fallback and SDK namespace validation
  • add focused public documentation and package-generated changelog output

pm lineage

GitHub intake discovered during this implementation is documented without expanding PR scope: pm-ypuc39 / GH-641, pm-lcnk2n / GH-642, and pm-tz2ikr / GH-638.

Verification

  • exact all-source coverage: 335 files, 6,079 tests, 100/100/100/100
  • typecheck, ESLint, zero-clone duplication, 100% docstrings/static quality, SDK package boundary, token-budget, contract, docs-link, context-evaluation, secret, and npm vulnerability gates pass
  • packed npm smoke: 13 packages; package-first dogfood: 88 commands
  • fresh packed consumer proved CLI context rebuilt -> fresh reuse, independent next storage, SDK cursor access, derived-index provenance, and a 192-token bound
  • fresh 10k context p95: 583 ms CLI / 207 ms SDK, 1,300 / 892 estimated tokens
  • Sentry: 0 critical/high issues in 14 days; telemetry: 0.46% finish error rate and 0 missing error-code rows

The aggregate scale check still reports the pre-existing unrelated get token baselines (CLI 1,042 > 322; SDK 701 > 288), already documented on pm-801d. Context itself remains within the product latency and token targets.

Tracker state

pm-3hps is closed with full evidence. pm-4k6b and pm-801d are open/unclaimed because their canonical 100k/1M acceptance remains intentionally unmet. No pm items are in progress.

Summary by cubic

Routes pm context and pm next through a shared SDK signal store with index-backed snapshots, explainable ranking, and explicit token budgets, now with normalized validation and sensible defaults. Also surfaces ranking controls on pm claim --next.

  • New Features

    • Shared pipeline via readWorkspaceContextSignals/ContextSignalStore; isolates context/next namespaces and persists caller-independent signals with dynamic overlays per read.
    • Token budgets and ranking controls: add --token-budget (alias --token_budget) and --explain-ranking to context, next, and claim --next; wired across CLI flags, commander contracts, completions, tool option contracts, parameter schema/tables, and generated fixtures.
    • API/docs: expose readItemMetadataDerivedIndexState for the effective cursor with safe fallback; add “Context Relevance and Packing” guide and performance notes; changelog entry kept in Unreleased and pm-changelog upgraded to 2026.7.22. Tracks progress: closes pm-3hps; advances pm-4k6b and pm-801d. Records GitHub intake: pm-ypuc39, pm-lcnk2n, pm-tz2ikr.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Normalized --token-budget validation and bound default packing budgets to the scale-adjusted context limit.
    • Removed stale context-signal imports flagged by CI.
    • Split complex command integration tests around a shared fixture to satisfy strict complexity gates.

Written for commit 471fcea. Summary will update on new commits.

Review in cubic

Route context and next through the SDK signal store with cursor provenance, stable caller-independent snapshots, dynamic overlays, explicit token budgets, and MCP/CLI contract parity.

Expose the effective transactional metadata-index cursor, harden fallback and namespace validation, document the shared pipeline, close pm-3hps with exact coverage and packed-consumer evidence, and record new GitHub issue lineage.

@codspeedbot The report was read and rated. The repository context-scale acceptance benchmark passed independently; these simulation deltas are environment noise, not an actionable regression.

Your reading of the report is correct — there is no actionable regression here.

Confirmed from the run data (head 5693fda vs base e96bb03):

  • CodSpeed detected a hardware difference between the two runs: the base ran on INTEL(R) XEON(R) PLATINUM 8573C and the head on Intel(R) Xeon(R) 6973P-C. All 4 flagged benchmarks (plus the 6 "improved" ones) ran across this CPU change.
  • In Simulation mode, the CPU cycle estimate is derived from a cache model tied to the physical CPU, so a different runner CPU can shift the estimate on identical source. That is exactly what the "Different runtime environments detected" warning is signalling.
  • The magnitude confirms noise, not signal: the regressions span 0% to -0.03% and the improvements top out at +0.1% — all well within run-to-run variance and far below any meaningful threshold.

None of the flagged benchmarks (decodeQueryCursor, tokenizeAlphaNumeric, tokenize + score query over 2000 docs, score query over 2000 docs) are touched by this PR's changes, so there is nothing to fix on the code side. Acknowledging them on CodSpeed is the appropriate action.

For the record: cross-CPU comparisons are the one case where sub-0.1% Simulation deltas should be treated skeptically. If you want to remove this class of noise on future runs, pinning the CodSpeed runner to a consistent CPU class is the reliable fix.

1973-1994: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Recompute the fallback token budget after scaling limit. resolveContextLimitAtScale only clamps full-depth runs on large corpora down to DEFAULT_CONTEXT_LIMIT, but tokenBudget is still derived from the pre-scaled limit. When that scale adjustment kicks in, the packer gets an oversized budget and can skip the intended degradation step.

Add the missing claim flags for explainRanking and tokenBudget.

Resolved all three delayed CodeRabbit findings in 471fcea: unified positive token-budget errors, calculated the default packing budget after scale-adjusting the context limit, and added pm claim --next token-budget/explain-ranking parity across CLI routing, contracts, aliases, and completions. The focused suite passes 229/229 and the full suite passes 6,080 tests at exact 100/100/100/100 coverage. Final bot-response audit for head 471fcea: I read and reacted to every delayed and current CodeRabbit/Gemini status, review, and inline response. Gemini's three sunset notices are acknowledged as unavailable service responses. CodeRabbit's earlier rate-limit notices are acknowledged; its latest-head pass and inline confirmation are up-voted, the corrected thread is resolved, and its old-head outside-diff findings are covered by 471fcea. Repository-enforced docstring coverage remains 100%, despite CodeRabbit's unrelated heuristic warning. No new actionable finding remains.
