The blog skeleton at docs/releases/blog-skeletons/02-upgrading-from-3x.md, the canonical upgrade guide at web/sites/guides/.../3x-to-4x.mdx, and the stats table at docs/releases/wheels-3.0-vs-4.0.md disagreed on how many breaking changes shipped in 4.0, and one of the blog's entries misdescribed a rename.

Changes

docs/releases/blog-skeletons/02-upgrading-from-3x.md

docs/releases/wheels-3.0-vs-4.0.md

  • "At a glance" row: Breaking defaults hardened | 7 → Breaking changes | 11.
  • Four detail-row delta labels corrected to Breaking:
    • wheels.Test → wheels.WheelsTest (was Changed)
    • tests/specs/functions/ → functional/ (was Renamed)
    • DI framework / application.wirebox → application.wheelsdi (was Changed)
    • Vite asset pipeline / strict manifest default (was New; note expanded to mention the breaking aspect)

Screenshots needed

None.

Fixes #2632

Blog skeleton now lists all eleven canonical breaking changes, matching
the upgrade guide's authoritative count. Fixes the test-base-class rename
entry (was mislabeled 'testbox namespace' — the actual rename is
wheels.Test → wheels.WheelsTest). Adds the previously-missing
application.wirebox → application.wheelsdi and Vite manifest strictness
breaking changes. Removes the incorrect 'not on the canonical list'
framing for the security-default items.

Stats table 'Breaking defaults hardened | 7' corrected to
'Breaking changes | 11'; four detail-row delta labels updated from
Changed / Renamed / New → Breaking to match the canonical guide.

Wheels Bot — Reviewer A

TL;DR: This is a pure docs fix that corrects a significant accuracy gap — the blog skeleton was telling upgraders there were 7 breaking changes when there are 11, and item 3 gave wrong detection instructions (searching for testbox.system.BaseSpec instead of extends="wheels.Test"). Both corrections are important and the changes are mostly accurate. Two issues warrant follow-up: a wrong PR number in the newly added HSTS section, and a PR body claim about ordering that doesn't hold. Verdict: comment (no blocking correctness issues in the actual doc content, but two nits worth fixing).

Correctness

Finding 1 — Wrong PR link in HSTS section

docs/releases/blog-skeletons/02-upgrading-from-3x.md, line ~120 (new section 5 — HSTS):

Pass `hsts=false` to `SecurityHeaders` ([#2195](https://github.com/wheels-dev/wheels/pull/2195)) to suppress framework-level HSTS emission when your proxy handles it.

Both canonical upgrade guides (web/sites/guides/src/content/docs/v4-0-0/upgrading/3x-to-4x.mdx:68 and the v4-0-1-snapshot counterpart) cite #2174 for the hsts=false middleware constructor parameter, not #2195:

pass `hsts=false` to the middleware constructor (#2174)

The escape-hatch instruction itself (hsts=false to SecurityHeaders) is correct; only the linked PR number is wrong. Please change [#2195] → [#2174].

Finding 2 — PR body claim about ordering is incorrect

The PR body says:

Restructured the table from 7 items to the canonical 11, in the same order as the upgrade guide.

The blog table's order after this PR is:

Blog # Canonical guide #
1 (wheels snippets) 7
2 (CORS) 1
3 (test base class) 8
4 (tests dir) 9
5 (HSTS) 2
6 (CSRF key + JWT) 3
7 (env switch + reload) 4
8 (RateLimiter) 5
9 (CSRF SameSite) 6
10 (wirebox) 10 ✓
11 (Vite) 11 ✓

Items 1–9 are not in canonical guide order. The blog leads with wheels snippets (canonical item 7), then groups the test items before the security defaults — which may well be the right call for a blog audience. But the PR description should not claim they match. A reader who tries to cross-reference "blog item 3" with "upgrade guide item 3" will land on the wrong section. The PR description should say something like "covers all eleven, structured for blog readability (easy mechanical fixes first, security defaults second)."

Docs

The core corrections are valuable and accurate:

  • Old item 3 ("testbox → wheelstest namespace rename") was genuinely wrong — the detection note told readers to look for testbox.system.BaseSpec, which never appears in Wheels app test files. The fix (grep -r "extends=\"wheels.Test\"") matches the canonical guide's detection instructions.
  • Moving cfwheels namespace rename (#2064) and RocketUnit removal (#1925) from the main table to "Other active-code changes to verify" is correct — neither is in the canonical eleven.
  • The four delta labels in docs/releases/wheels-3.0-vs-4.0.md updated from Changed/Renamed/New → Breaking are all accurate (wheels.Test, tests/specs/functions/, application.wirebox, and Vite manifest all break existing code on upgrade).
  • CHANGELOG entry is correctly placed under ### Changed in [Unreleased].

Commits

Single commit: docs(releases): reconcile breaking-change count in 4.0 upgrade docs — type docs, scope releases (valid, unrestricted), subject ≤ 100 chars, not ALL-CAPS. Clean.

Wheels Bot -- Reviewer B (round 1)

A's review is accurate and well-grounded. Both findings check out against the canonical upgrade guides. No sycophancy, no false positives, no significant missed issues. Aligning on the findings and emitting converged-changes so the wrong PR number gets fixed.

Sycophancy

None detected. A did not approve and cited concrete evidence for each finding.

False positives

None detected.

  • Finding 1 (HSTS PR link): Verified. Both web/sites/guides/src/content/docs/v4-0-0/upgrading/3x-to-4x.mdx:68 and the v4-0-1-snapshot counterpart cite #2174 for the hsts=false constructor parameter. The blog skeleton's new section 5 says [#2195]. A's cite is correct.
  • Finding 2 (PR body ordering claim): Verified. The canonical guide runs: CORS (1) -> HSTS (2) -> CSRF key (3) -> env switch (4) -> RateLimiter (5) -> CSRF SameSite (6) -> snippets (7) -> test base class (8) -> tests dir (9) -> wirebox (10) -> Vite (11). The blog table leads with snippets (canonical 7) and groups the two test items before the security defaults -- items 1-9 are deliberately reordered. The PR body's claim that the table follows "the same order as the upgrade guide" is wrong. A's table mapping is correct.

Missed issues

None that are significant. One minor note: docs/releases/wheels-3.0-vs-4.0.md line 88 (pre-existing, not introduced by this PR) also cites #2195 for the HSTS off-switch in the Security capability table. This PR does not touch that row and did not introduce the discrepancy, so it is out of scope here -- but if the author is fixing PR numbers in this file anyway, that row is worth a look.

Verdict alignment

A's verdict of "comment" is consistent with the findings: the core documentation content is accurate and valuable, neither issue is blocking, and both are concretely actionable. Appropriate.

Convergence

Aligned. Finding 1 is a real factual error -- the wrong PR number in a user-facing hsts=false escape-hatch instruction -- and should be corrected to [#2174]. Finding 2 is a PR description inaccuracy; the PR body should replace the "same order as the upgrade guide" claim with something like "covers all eleven, structured for blog readability." Joint recommendation: fix both and re-review.
