fix: land ten small jsonc, search, retry, plain-data and stream fixes - #7821
Carrier for ten small, independent bug fixes by @oocheol that were open as separate drafts. Each one touched the shared test-layout registries, so landing them one by one would have conflicted pairwise and cost ten CI runs. Every original commit is merged in unchanged; one extra docs commit tightens the #7788 wording.
Tool-argument integer repair returns the original string when re-serializing would change an unsafe integer or an overflowing number elsewhere in the arguments.
EventStream decoding: consumer return() no longer waits on a hung transport cancellation; the cancellation is still initiated and its rejection observed.
Pinned Bun 1.4.4 on Windows, focused files only (shared host).
Red before fix: each PR's new regression file run against dev source fails (ten files, 24 pass / 47 fail in total); all pass with the fixes (71 pass / 0 fail).
Carrier tip after merging current dev (bb949ac47): the ten new regression files plus tests/test-layout.test.ts, tests/test-layout-tooling.test.ts and tests/ci-workflows/file-size-ratchet.test.ts: 109 pass / 0 fail.
Existing suites for jsonc, plain-data, web-search parse/format, upstream-retry, tool-argument-integers and eventstream-decoder: 714 pass / 3 skip; the one timeout is a structure CLI fixture that also times out on unchanged dev under host load.
bun run typecheck, bun run structure:check, bun run privacy:scan: pass. Docs build: pass (593 pages).
Not run locally: full bun run test and test:changed (left to PR CI).

Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Improved handling of incomplete or malformed search responses while preserving valid answers and citations. Unmatched source notes remain in the answer, and invalid failure messages use a generic message.
Search text truncation now avoids splitting Unicode surrogate pairs.
JSONC parsing now handles CR, LF, and CRLF comments and accepts trailing commas only after actual entries.
Tool arguments now repair supported numeric values while preserving unsafe or unsupported number tokens.
Improved stream cancellation and request-retry cleanup.
Preserved data shape and special object properties when processing plain data.

numeric tokens retain token.raw instead of passing through Number() and

regression case with a high-precision decimal sibling alongside a repairable
field and verify its original token text is preserved.

Check exact token integrality before replacing a number.
If an integer-typed argument contains 1e-400, Number(token.raw) becomes 0. coerceValue then treats that value as a safe integer and replaces the original non-integral token with 0. The bridge sends a different tool argument instead of leaving the non-integral value for the client to reject. A decimal near the safe-integer boundary can round to an integer in the same way. Determine integrality and safe range from the original token before calling Number; leave non-integral tokens unchanged. Add regression cases for an underflowing exponent and a boundary-adjacent decimal in an integer field. As per coding guidelines, “Preserve existing public exports and configuration compatibility unless the task explicitly changes them”; this correction can keep the exported function contract.

In the integer-argument flow around coerceValue, validate integrality and safe
range from token.raw before converting it with Number, and leave tokens
unchanged when their original numeric text is non-integral or outside the safe
range. Add regression cases for an underflowing exponent and a boundary-adjacent
decimal in an integer field.

Re CodeRabbit outside-diff finding (check exact token integrality before replacing a number): valid. Fixed in 55bd109. A number token whose text is not an exact integer is never repaired, even when Number() rounds it onto one (1e-400 -> 0, 9007199254740990.5 -> 9007199254740990); it keeps its bytes in integer and string-only fields. Exact exponent integers such as 1.2e3 are still repaired. Regression case added to tests/adapters/fix-tool-number-preservation.test.ts (fails on f1f773f, passes now).
