Generic class argument rows now retain omitted optional constructor defaults and infer class type parameters from expanded trailing array values. Previously the optional case threw IndexOutOfRangeException, and params T[] failed to find a matching constructor row in generated mode while reflection passed.
Both discovery modes use the first non-null expanded array element to infer its element type, including constructors with a fixed prefix. Null array arguments retain their array shape and do not infer a spurious object. Type-free optional rows also join an instantiation established by a type-bearing class row, so both rows execute.
Generator inference and attribute emission identify TUnit's Arguments attributes by fully qualified name. Nine regression fixtures cover optional parameters, both params forms, generic Arguments, mixed rows, unrelated attributes, null arrays, and mixed trailing values; engine integration tests assert their counts in both modes. The params fixture uses direct element assertions to avoid a structural-comparison trimming warning. Method data source identity cleanup is tracked separately in #7648.
Review follow-up: null method rows no longer pull optional constructor rows into class types they did not infer. Added MixedClassRowsWithNullMethodRow (exactly three tests in both modes) and its reviewed generator snapshot. Generator suite: 351 passed, one existing skip. The existing mixed optional-row fixture still passes two tests in each mode. Engine count regression left to CI; Native AOT was not republished for this generator-only follow-up.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Improved generic test discovery when class data rows provide constructor values, including expanded params values and values supplied by method rows.
Omitted optional constructor arguments now use their declared defaults. Trailing values are handled correctly, including nulls and array-shaped data.
Data-source attributes derived from the framework’s arguments attribute are recognized during test discovery.
The change aligns generic class-row handling in source generation and reflection discovery. It recognizes derived ArgumentsAttribute types, infers type arguments from expanded trailing-array values, preserves defaults for omitted optional parameters, and associates qualifying class rows with method-row instantiations.
Source generator checks recognize TUnit ArgumentsAttribute subclasses when selecting and classifying argument rows. Tests cover generic and unrelated same-name attributes.

Class-row sources are combined with type-free rows when method rows infer the current class instantiation. Added scenarios check test counts and null method rows.
Issue 7390: The change covers type-free class rows combined with method rows; the issue describes broader combinations with other data sources.
Issue 7389: The change adds optional-parameter, params, and null-row handling for generic class rows.
Issue 7596: The change addresses inference from omitted optional values and expanded arrays; the issue also covers runtime row binding and partition requirements.
Issue 7588: The change updates inference for optional parameters and trailing arrays, but does not implement the proposed policy refactor or its direct policy tests.
Merge Risk: Minimal · up to 1fdc8
This change fixes generic class argument row handling in both source-generated and reflection discovery. The review found no remaining merge-blocking issues; normal CI validation of the engine tests still applies.

Explanation
The title "Fix generic class argument row edge cases" matches the main change. The PR fixes generic class data-row handling for omitted optional constructor defaults, expanded trailing params array values, type-free rows joining type-bearing instantiations, and null method rows. The title names the area and the kind of change without listing files. It is somewhat broad, but it refers to the core change.

Explanation
Linked issue #7387 is the only active direct target. Its coding requirements are the four fixture cases, attribute identity matching, and snapshot review.
Fixtures at head (tests/TUnit.TestProject/Bugs/_7209/ClassRowInfersNoTypeArgumentTests.cs):
Case 1, fewer row values with a later optional T: TypeFreeClassRowWithOptionalTypeParameter. The generated constructor call substitutes the declared default for omitted optional parameters (InstanceFactoryGenerator.cs).
Case 2, params constructors: TypeFreeClassRowWithParams (params int[]) and TypeBearingClassRowWithParams (params T[]). MapGenericTypeArguments in TestMetadataGenerator.cs expands trailing array values and infers the element type.
Case 3, generic class row: TypeFreeGenericClassRow ([Arguments<int>(42)]).
Case 4, mixed type-free and type-bearing rows: MixedTypeFreeAndTypeBearingClassRows ([Arguments(42, 1)] and [Arguments(42)]). TestMetadataGenerator.cs now lets type-free rows join an instantiation that a type-bearing class row established.
Attribute identity: TestMetadataGenerator.cs and StaticPropertyInitializationGenerator.cs match TUnit's attribute by IsOrInherits("global::TUnit.Core.ArgumentsAttribute") instead of Name == "ArgumentsAttribute". The unrelated same-name attributes UnrelatedAttributes.ArgumentsAttribute and ArgumentsAttribute<T> are covered by TypeFreeClassRowWithUnrelatedArgumentsAttributes.
Acceptance criteria: Issue7209Tests.cs adds the new class scenarios with expected counts. Tests7209.Test.verified.txt is updated for the generator output. The divergences found (optional-argument IndexOutOfRange, params in generated mode, null-array and mixed-value inference, null method row discovery parity) are fixed in the generator and reflection code.
Limits of this assessment: I did not run the engine tests or the snapshot suite. The reported pass counts (generator suite 351 passed, 30 tests per mode) are author-reported. I verified the source changes and fixture content at head. The MapGenericTypeArguments diff was truncated after its first hunks, so I relied on the PR summary for its remaining details.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
Every changed area connects to an objective of #7387 or to a divergence that its fixtures expose:
InstanceFactoryGenerator.cs: default substitution for omitted optional parameters (case 1).
TestMetadataGenerator.cs: trailing array inference, type-free row joining, and IsOrInherits attribute identity (cases 2 to 4, attribute identity). The null method row follow-up keeps generated discovery consistent with reflection for the mixed-row fixture.
StaticPropertyInitializationGenerator.cs: IsOrInherits attribute identity for ArgumentsAttribute.
ReflectionTestDataCollector.cs: type-free row carry-over into inferred instantiations, matching generated mode (case 4). The added optional parameter is internal to discovery.
Tests7209.Test.verified.txt and Issue7209Tests.cs: snapshot and count coverage required by the acceptance criteria.
ClassRowInfersNoTypeArgumentTests.cs: the regression fixtures.
The PR does not include method data source identity cleanup, which the PR description defers to #7648. No unrelated change is evident in the reviewed summary or code excerpts.

A rabbit checks the rows at dawn Then hops through arrays, one by one A missing value keeps its place The class types find their proper space Nulls sit still; the tests all run The rabbit rests when checks are done
Overall this is a solid, well-scoped fix for #7387. I read the source changes; I did not build or run tests.
What looks good
Matching ArgumentsAttribute by fully qualified type (IsOrInherits("global::TUnit.Core.ArgumentsAttribute")) instead of by simple name removes a real false-positive class (unrelated attributes named ArgumentsAttribute).
Trailing-array inference handles the right cases. Expanded values bind to the array element type. An explicitly supplied array keeps its array shape, matching reflection. The Math.Min(argIndex, len-1) indexing is guarded by collectsTrailingArguments.
The args.Length > i ? … : default guard in InstanceFactoryGenerator fixes the IndexOutOfRangeException. The snapshot shows the intended output.
The regression fixtures run in both generated and reflection modes, as AGENTS.md requires.
Suggestions (non-blocking)
Repeated literal."global::TUnit.Core.ArgumentsAttribute" now appears about 15 times across TestMetadataGenerator and StaticPropertyInitializationGenerator. Put it behind one helper such as IsArgumentsAttribute(this INamedTypeSymbol?) or a shared constant. That avoids typo drift, and a future rename touches one place. It would also remove the == true / != true noise.
Mixed matching styles.MethodDataSourceAttribute is still matched by simple name next to the new FQN checks (source.AttributeClass?.Name != "MethodDataSourceAttribute"). The same false-positive risk applies, so use the same helper style for consistency.
Switch case.case "ArgumentsAttribute" when attributeClass.IsOrInherits(...) still gates on the simple name first. A subclass with a different name never reaches the FQN check, whereas the other sites accept subclasses. Confirm that is intended. If subclasses should count, switch on the symbol rather than the name.
Default-value hot path. The per-parameter default guard is emitted for every optional parameter, even when all rows supply the full arity. This is only generated code, so the cost is small. If the generator knows the minimum row length, emit the guard only for indices a row can omit, which keeps the output smaller.
No correctness blockers found. Approving in spirit, pending CI (the engine suite is CI-only).
Both TUnit ArgumentsAttribute and ArgumentsAttribute<T> are sealed (src/TUnit.Core/Attributes/TestData/ArgumentsAttribute.cs), so differently named subclasses cannot occur; the switch's simple-name guard does not exclude a supported subclass.
Keep the optional-value length guard. It preserves defaults safely across mixed row lengths; specializing it would add generator complexity without a measured benefit.
Fixed all three review findings in 840cb74. Snapshot suite: 351 passed, 1 existing skip. All 18 positive #7209 classes have exact expected counts in generated, reflection, and Native AOT execution (30 tests per mode). Keeping this draft pending fresh Claude and Codex verdicts.
I read the generator and reflection-resolver changes and skimmed the snapshot diffs. I did not build or run the tests.
What looks good
Generated and reflection modes now follow the same rules, as AGENTS.md requires. The rules are: optional constructor defaults are kept, the element type is inferred from the first non-null expanded trailing value, and a null array argument stays an array and contributes no element type.
Optional defaults are guarded with args.Length > i ? … : default. That fixes the IndexOutOfRangeException for omitted optional parameters.
The nine regression fixtures cover optional parameters, both params forms, null arrays and mixed trailing values. The engine tests assert counts in both modes.
Replacing name-only "ArgumentsAttribute" checks with IsOrInherits("global::TUnit.Core.ArgumentsAttribute") stops an unrelated attribute with the same name from being treated as TUnit's.
Suggestions
Repeated check.IsOrInherits("global::TUnit.Core.ArgumentsAttribute") now appears about 15 times in TestMetadataGenerator. A single helper such as IsArgumentsAttribute(this INamedTypeSymbol?) would remove the string repetition and give one place to cache the lookup.
Inconsistent switch case.case "ArgumentsAttribute" when …IsOrInherits still switches on Name. A subclass of ArgumentsAttribute with a different name never reaches that case, although the other call sites now accept subclasses. Either handle subclasses everywhere or keep the name check everywhere.
Inverted flag. The check (parameterType.IsGenericParameter && !isExpandedTrailingValue) != bareParameters relies on a compound inverted flag, which is hard to follow. Computing an explicit isBare local and assigning to it would be easier to read.
Dead condition. In the reflection resolver, trailingArray == trailingArray.GetElementType()!.MakeArrayType() is true for every rank-1 array and only excludes non-SZ arrays. A short comment, or IsSZArray where available, would state that intent.
Copied logic. The trailing-array rule (CollectsTrailingArguments) is implemented separately in the generator and in the reflection resolver. They have to stay in sync, which the dual-mode tests protect for now. A comment in each place pointing at the other would help future edits.
I found no blocking issues. These are maintainability suggestions only.
Addressed Greptile's discovery parity finding in 1fdc8e0. Both modes now run exactly three tests for the null-method-row regression. Snapshot suite: 351 passed, one existing skip. Earlier mixed optional-row fixture: two passes per mode. Engine suite remains CI-only; no reflection path changed, so Native AOT was not republished for this follow-up.
Disposition of Claude's latest non-blocking suggestions: the existing reply covers the repeated identity checks and sealed Arguments attributes. Keep the two-pass bare-parameter condition for this correctness fix; the branches are covered by the dual-mode regressions. Keep the SZ-array equality check, which deliberately excludes non-SZ arrays. The duplicated trailing-array predicate belongs to separate Roslyn-symbol and reflection adapters; both already describe the trailing-array rule, with parity protected by the same fixtures. No additional behavior change is needed for these suggestions.
I read the diff (generator, reflection resolver and collector changes, plus the snapshot) and didn't run it. I found no blocking problems.
What looks good
Generated and reflection inference for expanded params T[] values follow the same rules. Both use the first non-null element, keep null arrays as arrays, and infer the expanded-element parameters before bare T parameters.
Optional-parameter defaults are guarded with args.Length > i. The snapshot confirms this produces valid code (default(int)!, default(string)!).
Type-free class rows now join an instantiation that a type-bearing class row established. The hasInferringMethodRow guard stops uninferred method rows, such as null, from pulling in spurious constructor rows.
Test coverage is good: nine fixtures with exact counts, run in both modes and under AOT.
Suggestions (non-blocking)
In TestMetadataGenerator, the switch case "ArgumentsAttribute" when attributeClass.IsOrInherits(...) still matches on the simple name first. Everywhere else the PR moves to IsOrInherits. A subclass with a different name, such as MyArgsAttribute : ArgumentsAttribute, therefore takes a different path there than in the other call sites. A small helper, for example IsArgumentsAttribute(INamedTypeSymbol?), would remove the repeated IsOrInherits("global::TUnit.Core.ArgumentsAttribute") string literal and keep every call site consistent. Dispatching on that helper instead of the switch would fix the case above.
InfersClassTypes does a linear Any scan over uninferredMethodDataSources per row. That's fine at current sizes. If discovery with many rows ever shows up in profiles, a HashSet would help.
Overall this is a solid fix with strong regression coverage.
Current head 1fdc8e0 has positive Claude and Codex verdicts, no blocking findings, and all review threads resolved. Disposition of the latest Claude suggestions: the existing disposition applies to helper consolidation and the simple-name switch (both Arguments attribute types are sealed); MethodDataSource identity cleanup remains tracked in #7648. Keep the current linear scan unless profiling demonstrates a discovery bottleneck; no performance change is justified by this non-blocking suggestion.
Promoting to ready for review to start CI and the ready-for-review Claude run. Auto-merge must wait for that new Claude run to pass and its comment to be checked. No code changed in this unit.
Well-scoped fix with regression fixtures, snapshot updates and AOT validation, keeping generated and reflection discovery aligned. I read the source diff but did not run the tests.
Concerns
Inconsistent ArgumentsAttribute matching. Most sites now use IsOrInherits for global::TUnit.Core.ArgumentsAttribute, but the bucketing switch in TestMetadataGenerator still switches on attributeClass.Name (case ArgumentsAttribute when IsOrInherits...). A subclass has a different Name and never reaches that case, so it is classified differently across paths. Suggest one shared IsArgumentsAttribute helper used everywhere, tested before the name switch.
Trailing-argument detection differs between modes. The generator uses CollectsTrailingArguments(). The reflection resolver treats any rank-1 last array parameter as collecting and does not check ParamArrayAttribute. A non-params T[] could infer T in reflection mode but not in generated mode. Suggest checking ParamArrayAttribute and adding a fixture for a non-params array parameter.
Duplicated inference rules. MapGenericTypeArguments and the reflection resolver carry the same expanded-trailing, null-skip and first-non-null rules written separately. Your cross-mode tests mitigate drift. Not a blocker.
Minor allocation. Combining classRowSources with typeFreeClassRows allocates per method per instantiation. Could be hoisted. Discovery only.
Generated default wrapper. The args.Length check is emitted for every defaulted parameter even when no row can be short, which grows output and snapshots. Optional: emit only when needed.

Run 42036791500 completed successfully. The ready-for-review Claude review has no correctness blockers; Codex also approved current head 1fdc8e0. All four review threads are resolved.
Disposition of the new Claude concern: CollectsTrailingArguments explicitly accepts params arrays OR a plain trailing SZ array (src/TUnit.Core.SourceGenerator/Extensions/TypeSymbolExtensions.cs:17), so the reflection trailing-array check agrees. Requiring ParamArrayAttribute would break the intentional #6120 behavior. The prior sealed-attribute disposition still applies to item 1. Keep the covered inference adapters, optional-default guards and class-row concatenation; these non-blocking simplifications have no demonstrated correctness or measured performance benefit. CodeRabbit docstring coverage is advisory; these changes have focused comments and regression coverage, and do not need unrelated documentation churn.
All executable CI passed except Apple smoke tests in run 42036790640: the hosted runner lacked the required preinstalled tvOS-27-0 Apple TV 4K simulator, so jq failed before any tvOS test could execute (job 127276914237). Attempt 1 has not been retried. Using the single permitted infrastructure rerun for that failed job; no code or tests are changed or suppressed. No prerequisite PR or replacement delivers a fix for this runner failure; merge remains gated on the rerun.
