feat(storage): CAS leases on the storage ports (single host per key) - #7227
Conversation
The lease module was no longer referenced anywhere in the crate, so it has been deleted to keep the storage layer free of dead code. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Reworked the lease document storage code to reduce duplication and make the helpers easier to follow. No behaviour change is intended. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
…pty, and the stat is blank to Could you paste the diff (or the stat plus a summary of the change)? Once I have it, I'll write the Conventional Commits message in the exact format you specified. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Move the storage implementation out of mod.rs into dedicated submodules and keep the existing tests in a separate mod_tests file. This makes the module easier to navigate as the storage layer grows. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Add coverage for lease and lease document storage behaviour, exercising the persistence paths that previously had no direct tests. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>

Add unit tests covering the lease model's acquisition and release behaviour so regressions in the storage layer are caught early. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Document the storage module's layout and responsibilities so contributors can find their way around it without reading the source first. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
The takeover check now considers a lease expired once the current time reaches its expiry timestamp, rather than only after it has passed. This closes a one-millisecond window where an expired lease could still be treated as held. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
The takeover decision treated a lease as expired one millisecond before its actual expiry, so a lease could be stolen while still valid. The comparison now uses the exact expiry timestamp. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Reformatted the lease document store and its tests to satisfy rustfmt, with no behaviour change. Also dropped a stale proptest regression seed that no longer reproduces. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>

- Around line 22-24: Update the lease contract comment near `decide` to remove
the claim that increasing epochs alone fence stale holders. State that protected
resources must reject writes with epochs older than the current epoch, and that
holders must stop work before `expires_at_ms` minus the maximum allowed clock
skew, since each node supplies its own `now_ms`.

Introduce lease document persistence alongside the existing lease storage, with a local backend and tests covering the new document operations. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
The lease model tests were extracted from the storage module into a dedicated file so the test suite is easier to navigate. No test behaviour changed. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Add tests for renewing after expiry without a takeover, for a foreign instance being unable to renew or release another node's grant, and for sub-millisecond TTLs not expiring at acquisition. Also cover epoch advancement on expired reentrant records, refusal to reuse an exhausted epoch, and case-sensitive local directory naming. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Extend the lease model tests so a reentrant acquire is only treated as reentrant while the existing lease has not expired, and so an expired lease is reported as lost. This keeps the test model aligned with the expiry semantics the storage layer is expected to enforce. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>

Main now carries tinyhumansai#7221, tinyhumansai#7230 and tinyhumansai#7227 with their review changes; its versions of the shared code win (max_agents_open alias, content-free outcomes, deprovision keeps the profile when credential cleanup fails, lease fixes, tenant key escaping). This PR's additions are applied on top: - profiles/host.rs: credential cleanup on deprovision runs under the profile's records context; on failure the profile is kept (main) and the lease this call holds is released so a retry can take it. - profiles/ops.rs: async host calls and profile-scoped credential install/clear, with main's content-free messages; release and the operator-dir refusal made content-free too. - profiles/gateway.rs: held-elsewhere log is content-free; from_open_error drops its now-unused id argument. - flows: trigger.rs takes main's owner::config_for_scope; the profile-as-tenant check moves into owner.rs. - storage/agents.rs: main's default_context fallback (SaaS is already excluded by the surrounding guards). - saas_gateway.rs/tests: keep this PR's split decide (Admitted/Refused) plus the 409 profile_held response, which supersedes main's typed refusal. - embed host_internals: re-export profiles::host::host and the gateway HeldBy/PROFILE_HELD/PROFILE_OWNER_HEADER items for rpc. - Baselines: saas-ambient tightened (10 fixed sites); storage-bypass entry moved from user_agents/host.rs to profiles/registry.rs. Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
…) into saas-profiles-embed upstream/main is authoritative for the already-merged SaaS work (tinyhumansai#7221/tinyhumansai#7227/tinyhumansai#7230/tinyhumansai#7239/tinyhumansai#7240/tinyhumansai#7255/tinyhumansai#7258); tinyhumansai#7247's latest head already resolved those changes against its lease-hosted ProfileHost, so its versions of the conflicted files are taken and it is recorded as a parent. This PR's own changes are kept on top: the ProfileRuntime notes in storage/README.md and core/runtime/README.md, and the profiles/README.md rewrite, updated for tinyhumansai#7247's operator_dir refusal, raw-mode id wording and the keep-on-credential-cleanup-failure deprovision rule. saas-ambient-baseline.json is regenerated (line shifts only). What
This adds a lease that guarantees only one process works on a given key at a time, built on the storage ports. Its first consumer is SaaS profile hosting: one process hosts each user profile, which is what lets a cluster scale out and fail over. The profile host is wired to it in a follow-up PR.
storage/lease.rsdefinesLeaseRecord,LeaseGrant(epoch,expires_at_ms,previous_unclean),LeaseError::{Held, Lost, Storage}, theLeaseStoretrait (acquire, renew, release, holder) and key validation. Both stores use one shareddecide()rule.storage/lease_documents.rs,DocumentLeases:clusterscope, collectionleases.Precondition::{Absent, Version}.Held. A conflict on renew or release means the lease was stolen and returnsLost.storage/lease_local.rs,LocalLeases: for hosts with no storage backend. It takes an exclusivefs2flock on<root>/<key>/.lease, and the operating system detects when the holder dies.storage::driver_has_cross_process_cas(driver)is true formongodbandsqlite, and false formemoryandfile. The file driver only coordinates writers within one process.previous_uncleanis set when an acquire replaces a record that was never released and that this instance didn't hold, meaning the holder crashed or expired. The new holder then runs crash recovery.Tests
Unit tests: cover acquire, contention (
Heldnames the owner), expiry and takeover (epoch +1,previous_unclean), renew after a steal (Lost), clean release, and twoLocalLeaseson one root.lease_model_tests.rs: a proptest state machine runs random acquire, renew, release, clock-advance and crash steps across 2–4 nodes, checked against a reference model. It asserts:previous_unclean;Lost.To prove the model has teeth, we injected a takeover 1 ms early and the suite caught it. That change was reverted.
