The budget prerequisite #8067 and shared checkout prerequisite tinyhumansai/.github#25 have merged. This implementation is ready for fresh CI against the updated trusted base; its full manual cold/warm measurements and separate preflight guard verification passed.

Summary

  • Run private validation sequentially in the existing trusted EX63 job, with explicit runner group/labels and unchanged hosted fallback.
  • Use pinned shared checkout, verify the published guest and repository toolchain, and replace private sccache with signed Tinymold setup/save.
  • Run each selected Rust configuration through nextest, preserve distinct default/product/storage/Tauri configurations, and inspect real ordinary and instrumented ELF binaries for mold metadata.

Problem

Private validation mixed compiler caches and Rust runners, depended on coverage-sensitive linker flags, and treated different feature selections as duplicates. It also lacked verified guest metadata and complete per-configuration test inventories. This implements #8063 without changing application APIs or release workflows.

Solution

The private job checks the image/toolchain before validation, preserves full recursive vendor history through the pinned shared checkout, and uses Cargo's target linker. Ordinary and coverage outputs remain separate while compatible builds are reused. Every selected suite produces JUnit/count records; missing or unexpectedly empty selections fail. Named platform/instrumentation exclusions and compiled ignored-only inventories preserve the intended selection.

Independent checks continue after failures and retain partial reports. Cache saving runs after failures with a 15-minute bound and cannot mask validation status. The sequential job has a 180-minute budget, with a 195-minute supervisor deadline. The trusted-base author-and-actor gate, read-only permissions, outsider hosted fallback, checksum modules, coverage presence and 80% changed-line gate remain intact.

Validation

  • Script suite: 772 passed, three platform skips, zero failures.
  • Actionlint, shellcheck, formatting and diff checks passed.
  • Actual published-image Rust 1.96.1 / nextest 0.9.148 / llvm-cov 0.9.1 compatibility proof passed: two distinct runs retain accumulated coverage; an intentional failure preserves its nonzero result, JUnit and LCOV.
  • Independent cold/warm verification passed at the same frozen 3a01ec0c54a54f30a14ab92cd5fdbf241d6e9316: identical identities across 15 instrumented configurations plus one plain regression, 15,572 Rust executions per run, zero failures/errors, all 50 checks sequential, all 23 offline examples and Pester passed.
  • Full manual entry: cold 2h27m49s; warm 1h09m32s. Cache: cold zero remote hits; warm 3,801 remote hits, 99.5% hit rate, 33 misses. Cache errors: zero in both; successful cache saves: 206s / 1s.
  • Coverage/linkage independently passed: 42 expected CLI targets accounted for, all 1,554 eligible source files present, nine nonempty LCOV reports and actual ordinary/instrumented mold ELF metadata. The unchanged diff gate passed with zero measured product lines; this does not measure CI JavaScript coverage.
  • The final preflight-only guard was added after the measured revision. Seven focused tests and actual published-image red/green entrypoint checks prove missing pinned LLVM tools fail before environment publication, installed tools pass, and implicit LLVM setup is disabled. Lane selections/build settings/cache policy are unchanged.
  • Measurements are manual full-lane timings on a shared host; GitHub checkout/dispatch/upload conditions and observed host pressure differ. Completed 160 GiB scratch had approximately 1.99 / 2.01 GiB free; peak headroom was not continuously measured.
  • Exact counters, resource limits, suite counts and archive digests: docs/ci-private-measurements-8063.json; methodology, diagnostics and rollout: docs/ci-private-validation.md.

Submission Checklist

  • Tests added or updated: routing/image/toolchain/linkage, suite inventories, failure paths, path filters and sequential dependencies.
  • Diff coverage ≥ 80% — retained gate exited zero; N/A: zero measured Rust/frontend implementation lines changed.
  • Coverage matrix updated — N/A: CI execution changes; no product feature rows changed.
  • All affected feature IDs listed under Related — N/A: no application feature IDs changed.
  • No new external network dependencies — N/A to application behavior; CI intentionally adopts the signed remote compiler cache required by this issue, while tests retain mocks.
  • Manual smoke checklist — N/A: release-cut product surfaces are unchanged.
  • Linked issue closed under Related.

Impact

No application API or production deployment changes. Private CI requires the pinned published guest and signed cache configuration. Hosted contributor validation and existing platform/release suites are preserved. Full-workflow overlaps with unproven-equivalent features or runtime environments are documented and retained.

Commit & Branch

  • Branch: issue-8063.
  • Commit SHA: measured workload snapshot 3a01ec0c54a54f30a14ab92cd5fdbf241d6e9316; subsequent LLVM preflight guard and measurement documentation are validated separately.

Validation Run

  • pnpm --filter openhuman-app format:check — equivalent CI split Prettier and root/Tauri rustfmt checks passed in the complete cold run.
  • pnpm typecheck — CI pnpm --filter openhuman-app compile passed in the complete cold run.
  • Focused tests: 772 script tests, seven preflight contract tests, actual pinned-tool compatibility and preflight red/green proofs.
  • Rust fmt/check — static rustfmt, product/embed clippy and no-default check passed; no Rust source changed.
  • Tauri fmt/check — rustfmt, clippy, ordinary build and coverage passed; no Tauri source changed.

Validation Blocked

  • command: fresh trusted-base GitHub CI.
  • error: no current code failure known. Earlier 120-minute trusted-base runs cancelled; ci: give EX63 validation a 180-minute budget #8067 has now merged the 180-minute budget.
  • impact: fresh CI and independent reviews must pass before merging this PR. Both manual runs passed independently. After merge, verify and measure the actual new checkout/Tinymold workflow through trusted-main routing.

Behavior Changes

  • Intended behavior change: verified, sequential, signed-cache private CI with complete nextest configuration inventories.
  • User-visible effect: CI results include per-check timings, test counts, cache/save statistics and actual mold linkage proof.

Parity Contract

  • Legacy behavior preserved: trust gates, outsider fallback, independent failure continuation, distinct features/tests and product release checks.
  • Guard/fallback/dispatch parity checks: script regressions, workflow lint, independently verified full cold/warm pair and separate published-image preflight guard checks.

Duplicate / Superseded PR Handling

  • Duplicate PR(s): none identified.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • CI Improvements

    • Private-runner checks validate the build environment, toolchain, and cache configuration before validation begins.
    • Rust validation runs sequentially on private runners, with coverage reports and build-linkage checks collected after successful coverage runs.
    • Cache-save attempts and validation results are recorded even when a run encounters failures.
    • Changes to CI scripts and configuration now activate the relevant validation suites; coverage checks report missing or empty expected test targets.
  • Tests

    • Expanded automated checks cover CI routing, runner requirements, coverage reporting, and submodule tag fetching.
  • Documentation

    • Updated CI guidance describes runner workflows, validation measurements, and image rollout checks.

Updated the pinned commits for all seventeen vendored tiny* submodules to their current upstream revisions.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
…rialization

Rework the self-hosted lane tests to assert that private Rust lanes share a checkout target dir, keep the mold linker through RUSTFLAGS resets, and drop the wrapper, while coverage suites run through nextest with lcov output. Also verify that the private runner serializes lanes even when parallelism is requested.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
…andling

Add tests asserting the llvm_cov helpers pick nextest for private suites and reject empty selections, that private core coverage runs sequentially without a second target directory, and that the finalizer preserves interrupted reports along with the cancellation status.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
…al coverage

The nextest path no longer runs the core unit tests in a background target
directory; every suite now runs in sequence through the shared helper, and the
default-feature embed and tinyhumans suites are added so that surface stays
instrumented. An EXIT trap writes a partial lcov report when a suite fails, so
coverage from suites that passed is kept instead of discarded.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
Private ex63 lanes now execute one at a time and share a single target
directory per build kind, so compatible artifacts are reused instead of
each lane keeping its own throwaway dir. sccache is dropped from the
self-hosted path, coverage checks are rewritten to run through
cargo-llvm-cov nextest with explicit filters, and the related sccache
reporting is removed from the summary and run comparison output.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
Add a test that pins the contract the private runner relies on, so future changes to the runner surface fail loudly instead of silently breaking callers.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
Remove the sccache summary helper and its stats collection from the lane runner and plan, since the shared cache is no longer wired into the hosted profiles. Also fix the cargo test argument split to require a spaced `--` separator and add coverage tests for the private runner's per-package selection and cancellation behaviour.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
Private lanes now run one at a time even when a check fails, so independent lanes no longer start before earlier ones finish. The tauri coverage check unsets RUSTC_WRAPPER for both profiles, and comments clarify how coverage replaces plain suites on the private plan.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
The EX63 lane now runs its jobs one after another in a single private job, reusing compatible target directories, and relies on the guest image for Python and jq instead of installing them per run. Checkout and Tinymold setup move to the pinned private actions, with a new verification step asserting the runner contract.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
Coverage lanes now run nextest with --no-report and generate the lcov report in a separate step, so a failing test no longer discards the collected coverage data. The report step's exit code is only propagated when the test run itself succeeded, and the empty RUSTC_WRAPPER overrides were dropped since unset variables already fall through to the default.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
…e cache setup

Replace the jq and Python installation assertions with a check that the private runner contract is verified before cache setup and area detection, and that the job no longer installs tooling itself.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
Add a CI step that runs a new linkage verification script after the rust lanes build, so the mold linker is confirmed to be actually used by the produced executables rather than only assumed from the build configuration.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
The test now bounds the ex63 job at the plan lane instead of the hosted lane, so it still isolates the private job after the lane ordering changed.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
The private coverage suite now runs the report step even when nextest fails, preserving the original exit status so failures are not masked. A real uninstrumented Tauri build was added to the tauri lane to exercise the target linker, with a test covering both behaviours.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
The self-hosted CI profile section now describes how the guest image digest is pinned and verified, how the shared checkout and Tinymold cache actions are configured, and how linkage and coverage are validated. It also adds an image rollout procedure and notes that private workflow routing runs from the trusted base branch, so a PR run may exercise the previous workflow.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
The ex63 coverage suite command now invokes the nextest-coverage wrapper script instead of calling cargo llvm-cov directly, so coverage runs pick up the wrapper's handling. The corresponding test now spawns from the repo root so the wrapper path resolves correctly.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
Add nextest test groups that pin the json_rpc_e2e and mcp_registry_multi_server
binaries to a single thread, since the RPC bootstrap writes a fixed temporary
token path shared across processes. The remaining changes are formatting-only
reflows in the lane planner, runner, and their tests.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
Add tests for the ELF classifier that distinguishes instrumented binaries from ordinary executables, and for the membership gate that routes mixed identities, outsiders and bots away from EX63.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
The nextest coverage invocations now go through scripts/ci/nextest-coverage.sh with a per-suite name derived from the suite label, and the expected integration targets are written out for the wrapper to consume. The test mock was extended to copy the wrapper, report script, and nextest config into the sandbox and to emit a mock report so the new path is exercised.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
The private lane now timestamps the cache save and captures tinymold stats so cache behaviour can be inspected from the uploaded artifacts. The contract test and linkage script were also reformatted, and the validation doc table was realigned.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
The private auxiliary coverage test now sets NEXTEST_REPORT_DIR to a temp directory so report output stays out of the working tree, and the cargo args variable in the lane planner is declared const since it is never reassigned.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
Add a test asserting that private coverage exits successfully when all eight selected configurations report tests, guarding the full-matrix success path.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
The coverage script now measures how long the test run takes and passes it to the report generator, which includes it as elapsedSeconds in the JSON summary so run duration is captured alongside the test counts.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
…imits

Reformatted the nextest coverage and rust coverage status tests so long
lines are wrapped and quote style is consistent. No assertions or test
behaviour changed.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
The runner check now parses rust-toolchain.toml with tomllib when available and falls back to tomli, requiring only Python 3.10 instead of 3.11. The workflow comment and self-hosted docs were updated to match the relaxed guest contract.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
Updated the pinned commits for eleven vendored tiny* submodules to pick up their latest upstream changes.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
Update the vendored tinywallet submodule to commit 55fbcada to pick up the latest upstream changes.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
Extend the report helper to accept an optional inventory file and add a case verifying that binaries containing only ignored tests stay inventoried without requiring JUnit suites, while missing or unexpectedly matching entries still fail.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
The nextest report now accepts a CLI inventory file so a compiled target whose entire selected test set is ignored no longer fails the run for lacking a JUnit testsuite, while missing binaries still fail. The report also errors clearly when the JUnit report is absent, and the nextest binary filters use anchored regexes to match exact names.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
Add a check that the pinned toolchain ships llvm-cov and llvm-profdata before publishing the environment, since cargo-llvm-cov --version does not inspect LLVM tools. The check also sets CARGO_LLVM_COV_SETUP=no to forbid the automatic installer.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
Document the cold and warm manual validation runs at the same commit, including
their counters, resource limits and archive digests, and note that both passed
with identical selected test identities. The record also captures the
verification of CLI targets, coverage reports and ELF metadata, along with the
caveats around cache state, host pressure and scratch headroom that limit what
the elapsed differences can show.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
…rollout

Record the LLVM-tool preflight check and disabled implicit setup added after the measured revision, along with the verification results and the pending 180-minute budget prerequisite. Also add the compiler-cache hit rate to the cold/warm table and clarify the measured contract wording.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
Reformatted the regex match and spawnSync argument array in the LLVM preflight contract test to satisfy line-length formatting, with no change to the assertions or behaviour being verified.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
Add header comments describing invocation, environment variables, and exit
semantics for the nextest coverage and report scripts, the self-hosted runner
and linkage verifiers, and the module pin inventory helper. The scripts were
already usable but their interfaces were only discoverable by reading the
implementation.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
Adds the verify runner hash scope and the subsequent documentation revision to the CI private measurements record so the hash provenance is captured alongside the existing test counts.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
Reword the modulePinRepositories doc comment to state that records without a configured path are omitted, making the behavior clearer than the previous phrasing.

Head: 79b334ab3e3c0d666a928fe5ee4943c24b1ec6c5. Prerequisites #8067 and tinyhumansai/.github#25 merged; latest main is integrated with a two-parent merge, preserving every checkpoint.

Fresh CI and reviews are now requested against the 180-minute trusted-base workflow. Merge remains gated on the final head passing all checks and actionable feedback being addressed.

Manual EX63 validation is independently verified at recorded workload revision 3a01ec0c54a54f30a14ab92cd5fdbf241d6e9316: 15,572 Rust executions in each run, zero failures, matching coverage/mold/resource contracts. Full-entry times: cold 147m49s, warm 69m32s; warm cache 99.5% hits (3,801 remote), zero cache errors. The subsequent LLVM startup guard has separate published-image red/green proof. Final source-comment validation passed 15 focused tests, actionlint, shellcheck and diff checks.

Next: finish CI/reviews, merge without squashing, then measure the actual new workflow after it is trusted on main. Manual and GitHub job timings will remain distinguished.

Review round 1/2: fixed the confirmed nextest-config filter gap in all four affected areas. Regression reproduced the omission before the fix; 45 lane/scope/nextest tests pass afterward. Both threads received replies and are resolved; independent re-review and fresh CI are pending. Runtime workload/cache behavior is unchanged.

Review round 2/2: fixed the remaining two helper paths so rust-coverage.sh and fetch-submodule-tags.sh activate their regression suite. Regression verified red, then 69/69 affected tests passed. CodeRabbit approved round 1; final re-review/CI are pending at the updated head. Tiny Sweeper timed out after 900s on each preceding head without a substantive report; no timeout is counted as an approval.

Base advanced after the ready run: canonical storage epic #8064 merged as bb09694. Integrated locally preserving history and its new storage migration target; 50 affected tests/actionlint/Prettier/diff pass. New independent inventory is 43 CLI and 11 storage targets (earlier measured3a01 remains42/10). Integration will be pushed with the compatibility fix.

Mongo runs39099576508 and39100520412 fail the existing three CLI cron-add storage cases. The new base compiles TinyBox bus1.21 while registry0.1.35 supplies1.20; compatibility correctly refuses it. TinyBox#95 already merged version0.1.38; existing release39099978595 is running (Linux/Windows passed, macOS still pending). Waiting for authentic release checksums before repinning; no guard bypass or test omission.

Extend the self-hosted lane tests so the scripts lane is required to
include scripts/ci/rust-coverage.sh and scripts/ci/fetch-submodule-tags.sh
for the module boundary, process-static, and nextest validation policies.
These helpers were previously unverified against the lane filters.

Auto-committed-on: macbook
The scripts path filter now includes scripts/ci/rust-coverage.sh and
scripts/ci/fetch-submodule-tags.sh so changes to those scripts arm the
scripts self-test job in CI.
