fix(credentials): restore the API key when a sign-out fails after reload - #8430
A reload_config_or failure between the teardown and the carry returned with the key removed.
Every restore after the teardown wrote through the old user-scoped config. Auth profiles follow the installed storage backend, so on per-user storage that write went into the signed-out database under the old user's secret namespace, where nothing reads it. It looked like success and lost the key. Found in review.
No reload step.clear_session_credential returns the signed-out config it loaded and rebound to, and clear_credential uses it. The reload, and its failure path, are gone.
Restore only where the key was. A teardown or carry failure puts the key back only if the store it came from is still the installed one (same storage::installed_url()). That covers a teardown failing before its rebind, and every file-backed or shared-store case.
After a move to another database (per-user storage, a carry or late teardown step failing after the rebind), nothing is written. The error says "the API key could not be kept and must be entered again", instead of a misleading success and an unreadable record.
Test seam:clear_credential delegates to clear_credential_with, which takes the carry as a closure (production passes api_key::store_api_key). This is the same hook pattern as cancel_for_thread_with_hook.
Tests
a_failed_carry_during_sign_out_puts_the_api_key_back (file-backed): the error is returned and the key is back at its source.
a_failed_carry_on_per_user_storage_says_the_key_must_be_entered_again (the real default per-user layout): the error says so, and no api-key record is written into the signed-out store.
restore_api_key_puts_the_key_back_and_tolerates_a_failed_store: nothing to restore; a key put back; a key that cannot be stored is logged, not a panic or an error.
Tests added or updated: three tests covering the sign-out failure paths.
Diff coverage ≥ 80%: the new tests drive the restore and the not-reachable branches. On a38ac29 credential.rs was at 100% of changed lines; this head is re-measured in the FULL.
Coverage matrix updated: N/A: bug fix and tests, no feature row.

A sign-out that fails partway no longer silently loses the API key. Where the key can be put back it is; where it cannot (per-user storage, a failure after the move), the user is told to enter it again. No change on the success path.
Improved credential handling during sign-out failures. When the original storage backend remains available, the API key is restored there. If storage has changed, the error indicates that the key must be entered again. Credential transfer failures now report the failure while preserving the key when possible.
Sign-out now uses the resolved signed-out configuration and reports errors if that configuration cannot be loaded.
Follow-up to tinyhumansai#8428. clear_credential takes the API key out of its source
before the session teardown, and puts it back if the teardown or the carry
into the signed-out workspace fails. A reload_config_or failure between the
teardown and the carry returned with the key removed. All three steps now
restore it the same way (inspect_err).
clear_credential delegates to clear_credential_with, which takes the
post-teardown reload as a closure (production passes reload_config_or), so
tests can fail it: a failed reload and a failed carry each return the error
with the key back at its source. restore_api_key is also tested directly.

What changed
`clear_credential` now delegates to a new `clear_credential_with`, which takes the API key carry into the signed-out workspace as a closure; production passes a closure wrapping `api_key::store_api_key`. Inside, the outcome of `clear_session_credential` is destructured into `(removed, signed_out_config)` and `effective_config` is taken from that returned config, so the post-teardown `reload_config_or` step and its failure path are gone. A `fail` closure captures the pre-teardown `source_api_key` and `storage::installed_url()`; on a teardown or carry error it restores the key via `restore_api_key` only if the currently installed URL still equals the source URL, and otherwise logs an `api key lost` error and returns the original error with "the API key could not be kept and must be entered again" appended. `clear_session_credential` now returns `Outcome<(bool, Config)>` and propagates the `load_config` failure with `map_err` instead of the prior match. `ops.rs` re-exports `clear_credential_with` under `#[cfg(test)]`. Tests: `restore_api_key_puts_the_key_back_and_tolerates_a_failed_store`, `a_failed_carry_during_sign_out_puts_the_api_key_back` (file-backed, key restored) and `a_failed_carry_on_per_user_storage_says_the_key_must_be_entered_again` (key not restorable, error says so, nothing written into the signed-out store).
Features
Modified — Conditional restore on sign-out failure based on installed storage URL: A teardown or carry failure restores the API key at its source only when `storage::installed_url()` still matches the source's URL; otherwise it logs an error and appends "the API key could not be kept and must be entered again" to the returned error rather than writing into a signed-out store under the old user's namespace. The success path is unchanged. (crates/openhuman-core/src/security/credentials/ops/credential.rspub async fn clear_credential(, crates/openhuman-core/src/security/credentials/ops/credential.rsasync fn clear_session_credential(, crates/openhuman-core/src/security/credentials/ops/credential.rsfn restore_api_key(config: &Config, key: Option<&str>, reason: &str) {)
Removed — Removal of the post-teardown config reload step: `clear_session_credential` returns the signed-out config it loaded and rebound to, and `clear_credential` uses it directly, removing the post-teardown `reload_config_or` call and its `?` failure path that previously returned with the API key already removed. (crates/openhuman-core/src/security/credentials/ops/credential.rspub async fn clear_credential(, crates/openhuman-core/src/security/credentials/ops/credential.rsasync fn clear_session_credential()
Internal refactor — Testable carry seam in `clear_credential_with`: `clear_credential` delegates to `clear_credential_with`, which takes the carry into the signed-out workspace as a `FnOnce(&Config, &str) -> anyhow::Result<()>`; production passes a closure over `api_key::store_api_key`. `clear_credential_with` is re-exported under `cfg(test)` so tests can inject a carry failure without changing production behavior. (crates/openhuman-core/src/security/credentials/ops/credential.rspub async fn clear_credential(, crates/openhuman-core/src/security/credentials/ops.rspub use composio::{, crates/openhuman-core/src/security/credentials/ops/credential.rsasync fn clear_session_credential()
Tests
No supported feature-to-test mapping was produced. Test execution is not inferred.
Positive: The critique lane answered that threading the fallible carry closure through `clear_credential` and returning the signed-out config from the teardown is a sound refactor.
Lane summary: The change threads a fallible carry closure through `clear_credential` and returns the signed-out config from the teardown, which is a sound refactor, but the new failure path compares only `storage::installed_url()` to decide whether the source store is still readable. That comparison is `None == None` for file-backed profiles (the default desktop backend installs no URL), so it cannot detect a rebind between two file-backed workspaces and will take the "key is lost" branch in a case where restoring would have succeeded.

Positive: The security lane answered that the production path and the two new tests use the seam consistently, no untrusted input reaches a new sink, and no existing behavior regresses.
Lane summary: The change extracts the API key carry into a test-injectable closure (`clear_credential_with`) and moves the signed-out config resolution inside `clear_session_credential` so the failure path can tell whether storage was rebound before deciding to restore or report the key as lost. Both the production path and the two new tests use it consistently; no untrusted input reaches a new sink and no existing behaviour regresses.

Lane summary: The change is well covered: both new error paths of the `fail` closure are pinned — `a_failed_carry_during_sign_out_puts_the_api_key_back` (source still installed) and `a_failed_carry_on_per_user_storage_says_the_key_must_be_entered_again` (source no longer installed, plus the assertion that nothing is written into the signed-out store), with `restore_api_key_...` covering the helper. One gap stands out: the comment claims the guard covers a teardown that fails *after* its rebind, but no test exercises a teardown-failure path that moved storage, only the carry path.

Lane summary: The description matches the diff: it explains the removed reload step, the installed-URL reachability check before restoring, the empty write on per-user storage, the `clear_credential_with` test seam, and the three added tests, and the claim that sign-out failure paths no longer silently drop the key is what the code does. I found no defect worth blocking on.
Credential clearing now injects the API-key carry operation and uses the signed-out configuration returned by session teardown. On teardown or carry failure, it restores the source API key only if the storage backend remains installed. Tests cover restoration and per-user storage behavior.

clear_credential delegates to clear_credential_with and supplies store_api_key as the carry operation. Session teardown returns the signed-out configuration, which the helper uses for carry. On failure, the helper restores the source key only if the storage backend is unchanged; otherwise, the error states that the key must be entered again. Tests cover restore behavior, injected carry failures, and per-user storage.
A failed sign-out may still leave an API key unavailable. Verify the recovery path before merging.

Review on tinyhumansai#8430: after the sign-out teardown rebinds storage, a restore
through the old user-scoped config writes into the signed-out database
under the user's secret namespace, where nothing reads it; with per-user
storage the key was lost either way.
- The teardown returns the signed-out config it loaded and rebound to, so
the separate reload (and its failure path) is gone.
- A teardown or carry failure restores the key only while the store it
came from is still the installed one (same installed URL). After a move
to another database it writes nothing and the error says the key must
be entered again, instead of writing a record no one can read.
- The test seam is now the carry (clear_credential_with), with a
file-backed test that the key is put back and a per-user storage test
that no stray api-key record is written into the signed-out store.
If the storage is unchanged, fail calls restore_api_key and returns the original error. restore_api_key logs a restore failure and returns (). The caller then gets an error that does not mention the lost key. This case is the one where the code appends "must be entered again" on the storage-moved path.
Make restore_api_key return whether the write succeeded. Append the same "must be entered again" text when it did not.

restore_api_key (Line 555) must then return bool. It returns true for Ok and for a None key. It returns false for Err.

Update `restore_api_key` to return whether the restore succeeded: return true
for a successful write or when no key is provided, and false on write failure.
In the unchanged-storage branch of `fail`, preserve the original error when
restoration succeeds; when it fails, append the existing “must be entered again”
message before returning the error.
The "no stray record" check reads a namespace where a stray record would not appear.
The assertion at lines 271-277 reads the profile through signed_out. Per the test's own comment (lines 239-243), a stray write through the old user-scoped config would place the record in the signed-out store under this user's secret namespace, where a read through the signed-out config returns nothing. The assertion therefore passes whether or not the stray write happens. It does not guard the regression its message and comment describe.
The check needs a read that targets the namespace the stray record would occupy. The inspected code does not establish which config gives that read, so this change should not be made as a one-line swap to user_scoped.
