Summary by Sourcery

Govern executable positional command contracts and make nested diagnostic output safely resumable across CLI, SDK, MCP, and package surfaces.

New Features:

  • Publish typed positional command and executable action contracts across CLI help, completion, SDK contracts, MCP parity, aliases, and package-owned commands.
  • Add independently resumable nested diagnostic output with canonical content-bound cursors that reject stale replays.
  • Expose linked-file and linked-test aliases consistently across create/update CLI and SDK surfaces.
  • Add executable context-calibration recovery validation and expand token-surface coverage to positional actions.

Bug Fixes:

  • Prevent positional action help and contracts from diverging from live Commander registrations.
  • Fail closed on positional signature drift, missing command observations, MCP/CLI option mismatches, malformed token budgets, and invalid calibration recovery configuration.
  • Preserve primary amount limits while allowing nested validation diagnostics to continue independently without repeating rows.

Enhancements:

  • Consolidate command grammar, positional signatures, action flags, runtime contracts, and structured help around shared SDK metadata.
  • Refine contracts output so compact summaries remain lightweight while full or command-scoped projections include detailed provenance, budgets, and positional signatures.
  • Strengthen command alias discovery, required subcommand diagnostics, and canonical linked-resource option normalization.

CI:

  • Extend release grammar and token-surface gates with independent live CLI observation, positional-shape budgets, option parity checks, and executable recovery validation.

Documentation:

  • Document positional action discovery, command-scoped contracts, nested continuation row contracts, stale cursor protection, and context-intent calibration recovery.

Tests:

  • Add unit and integration coverage for positional action help and contracts, live command census failures, option parity, linked-resource aliases, resumable validation diagnostics, stale cursors, and token-budget enforcement.

Chores:

  • Refresh generated SDK metadata, contract fixtures, token baselines, changelog output, and PM tracking artifacts.

Publish typed positional signatures for every executable command destination and enforce their arity, value-kind, polymorphism, and shape budget through the command grammar gate.

Make plan and assurance actions discoverable through text help, JSON help, completion, compact/full runtime contracts, and public SDK exports while preserving bounded agent output.

Add SDK-verifiable MCP/CLI option parity with executable linked-file and linked-test aliases, plus a manifest-backed context calibration recovery command and negative controls.

Regenerate governed SDK/contracts/changelog artifacts, document the new extension points, record PM lifecycle and recurrence evidence, and cover the broad surface with packed Node/Bun acceptance and exact all-source coverage.

How can I continue?

After more reviews become available, a review can be triggered using the @coderabbitai review command as a PR comment. Alternatively, push new commits to this PR.

To avoid repeated limits, reduce automatic review volume by pausing incremental auto-reviews earlier, using label-based review opt-in, excluding WIP or generated PR titles, or requesting reviews manually when the PR is ready. If your team needs uninterrupted high-volume reviews, an organization admin can enable usage-based reviews.

How do review limits work?

CodeRabbit enforces per-developer PR review limits for each organization. Most developers receive the normal plan review availability.

For paid Pro and Pro+ PR reviews, CodeRabbit uses adaptive limits for sustained high-volume activity. When a developer's recent PR review activity reaches the 95th percentile or higher among CodeRabbit users, additional reviews become available more gradually as earlier reviews age out of the rolling window.

Merge Risk: 🟠 High · up to a1fc9

This PR changes how executable positional actions, command help, aliases, and resumable output contracts are published and validated, but the current head still has concrete correctness gaps: active commands or actions can evade contract checks, action-specific help can be wrong or incomplete, and continuation metadata can become unusable after compaction. Users and SDK/MCP consumers may receive misleading contracts or invalid resume data, so the PR is not merge-ready until these paths are corrected.

Reviewer's Guide

Adds a typed positional-argument grammar layer for all commands and positional plan/assurance actions, wires it into help/contract surfaces and the release grammar gate, introduces an MCP-to-CLI option parity verifier (including linked-file/test aliases), and hardens the context intent calibration gate with a manifest-verified recovery command.

Keep an explicitly selected positional action in summary output.

selection.fullOutput is false for pm contracts --summary --command "plan create". buildCommandSummarySurface then filters out plan create, so the requested summary is empty.

Enable positional-action summaries when selection.selectedCommand is defined. Add coverage for summary: true with command: "plan create" and command: "assurance risk".

The full-review command completed and produced six actionable findings. Each finding has been addressed on its inline thread with implementation and verification evidence; the amended exact head will be submitted for another full review after push.

The reviewer guide accurately identifies the broad positional grammar, SDK option parity, generated contract, and recovery-calibration surfaces. Those surfaces were included in the focused, full-suite, coverage, static-quality, duplication, and temporary acceptance verification.

The unchanged benchmark result is acknowledged. The amended gate logic remains covered by focused and full-suite tests, while the existing 11 benchmark baselines report no performance alteration.

The coverage report is acknowledged. Local exact coverage independently confirms 54,999/54,999 statements, 41,039/41,039 branches, 11,355/11,355 functions, and 53,087/53,087 lines after the review fixes.

All six actionable review findings were accepted and fixed: unique PM ownership, pre-terminal closeout evidence, synchronized acceptance metadata, active-command missing-signature detection, an executable assurance example, and duplicate-signature rejection. Regression and full-suite verification pass at exact 100/100/100/100 coverage.

Separate active command discovery from observed signature discovery so an active package command cannot evade missing-signature validation while inactive package contracts remain available for complete verification.

Reject duplicate declared and observed command signatures deterministically, correct the executable assurance example, and add regression coverage for each review finding.

Synchronize PM acceptance evidence, terminal transition ordering, unique calibration ownership, assurance evidence, and generated changelog state through the tracked review loop.

The exact-head full-review request is acknowledged as rate-limited, not as approval or clean-review evidence. All prior findings are fixed and all exact-head CI checks are green; the full review will be requested again when the bot's stated included-review window reopens.

Make the positional census reject orphaned and duplicate destinations, compare canonical slot identities independently from the shape budget, and derive action flags once through a fail-closed shared index.

Preserve every repeatable value when canonical and alias spellings are mixed, retain positional action discovery in compact contract summaries, and keep exact multi-token action availability and schemas.

Refresh generated SDK, contract, token-budget, changelog, and PM evidence after exact coverage, static assurance, transport-floor, and isolated mutation acceptance.

Normalize command paths before duplicate and map checks.

resolvePmCommandPositionalContract treats "PLAN SHOW" and "plan show" as one command. This verifier counts and maps those raw strings as separate commands. If declared and observed inputs contain both spellings, the report can return ok: true without reporting the duplicate logical signature.

Normalize contract.command with the same case and whitespace rules before calling duplicatePositionalSignatureFindings and before constructing both maps. Add a regression test for case and repeated-whitespace variants.

Reject Commander alias substitutions that change token arity so the live command census cannot grow without bound, while retaining equal-arity transitive expansion for nested package lifecycle aliases. Add a longer-alias termination regression and terminal PM evidence.

CodeRabbit receipts reviewed: the completed ce15c7308 review was useful and its findings were handled inline; the adecb00c3 and bec9a1b3b receipts are rate-limit limitations, not approvals. Both rate-limit receipts were downvoted, every actionable inline finding remains individually voted/replied/resolved, and exact-head hosted checks plus the zero-unresolved-thread inventory remain the current evidence.

Observe positional signatures from live Commander help and runtime action views so declared SDK contracts cannot validate themselves. Preserve rich subcommand recovery while gating exact names, requiredness, variadicity, aliases, and active package commands.

Separate amount-bound rows from nested continuation rows, bind cursor fingerprints to canonical row content, and reject same-cardinality stale cursors. Add exact negative controls, public surface metadata, documentation, generated contracts, changelog, and PM closeout evidence.

708-729: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Validate answer ceilings when the ratchet check is disabled.

The exact-pair check at lines 708-716 runs only when requireAnswerRatchet is true. The discovery branch at lines 717-722 validates finite ceilings for discovery budgets only. Therefore, for a manifest below MANIFEST_VERSION, an answer budget with a missing or non-finite max_bytes or max_estimated_tokens passes isMalformedBudget.

measurementViolation then compares the measured value against undefined. Both comparisons are false, so the surface reports no violation and the gate passes.

Validate finite, non-negative answer ceilings unconditionally. Keep the exact ceil(max_bytes / 4) equality behind requireAnswerRatchet.

1518-1529: 🩺 Stability & Availability

⚠️ Unverified finding
Sandbox verification was unavailable.

Verify preservation of continuation path owners during compaction.

Line 1529 assumes that every pre-budget continuation path exists after compaction. A continuation path can be nested under a primary row path, such as checks.0.details.* under checks. If compaction removes the parent row, afterByPath.get(path)! is undefined.

Confirm that compactReadOutputToBudget preserves each parent owner for a retained continuation path. Otherwise, omit the unavailable continuation safely.

81-91: 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration

Verify the recorded run kind for coverage.

Line 81 records node scripts/run-tests.mjs coverage, but Line 91 records the new run as kind=test. If this run represents coverage evidence, record the coverage kind or link the coverage receipt explicitly. If test is the repository-wide kind for both commands, verify that convention in the PM schema and history.

As per coding guidelines: “Treat pm as the system of record; never edit .agents/pm files directly.” Verify and correct this record through the PM CLI.

Based on learnings: “files under .agents/pm/ with the .toon extension are typically generated tracker/derived artifacts produced by PM CLI commands”; verify the PM command/history evidence and derived consistency.

302-319: 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration

The six plan semantic actions still declare the shared PLAN_STEP_FLAGS set.

PLAN_STEP_FLAGS contains only --allow-multiple-active, --depends-on, --file, --force, --message, and the --step-* options. It omits the action-specific options that these handlers read, for example --decision-text, --discovery-text, --validation-text, and --resume-context.

accepted_flags feeds formatPmPositionalActionFlagTip and the action help projection. Therefore pm plan decision <id> --help omits options that the action accepts.

A previous review reported this and the response stated per-action flag sets were added. The provided final state shows the shared set. Confirm the exact head, then declare per-action flag sets for decision, discovery, validation, resume, approve, and materialize.

3078-3080: 🚀 Performance & Scalability

Scope positional_signatures to the selected commands.

Line 3113 sets includePositionalSignatures when selection.selectedCommand !== undefined. Lines 3078-3080 then emit the complete PM_COMMAND_POSITIONAL_CONTRACTS table.

A command-scoped read such as pm contracts --command close --summary therefore carries every declared signature. Command-scoped output exists to reduce agent token cost.

A previous review reported this and the response stated scoped reads now filter to the requested output commands. The provided final state emits the complete table. Confirm the exact head, then filter by outputCommands for scoped reads and keep the complete table for --full only.

61-90: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

⚠️ Unverified finding
Sandbox verification was unavailable.

Remove the inert positional-signature mock payload.

The gate now derives observed positional signatures from the live help traversal in collectLiveCliCommandSurface. It reads only contracts.command_summaries from the contracts response.

Therefore derivedPositionalSignatures, the emitted grammar_contracts.positional_signatures key, and the positionalSignatures harness option are never consumed. A future test that sets positionalSignatures asserts nothing and passes for the wrong reason.

Delete the option and the dead payload. Keep argumentOverrides as the single control for observed slots.

registration traversal should catch failures from loadHelp/readLiveCliHelp for
unobserved commands and record a grammar or positional finding naming the

Comment thread src/cli/help-content.ts Resolved
Turn unreadable active-package help and missing positional-action census rows into structured fail-closed evidence. Resolve operand-bearing help requests to their longest declared action path and replace generated step descriptions with precise language.

Add regression coverage for every review finding and record terminal PM evidence after the full 7,562-test suite passed at exact 100/100/100/100 coverage.

Exact-head review receipt acknowledgment:

  • CodeRabbit comment #5331619966 completed its review of 538583542edcac8970ecb7044ba7ef7dc8d09c1f and produced no new actionable thread; I up-voted that completed review. Its appended fair-usage notice is recorded as a provider limitation, not independent approval.
  • The exact-head GitHub Actions/security/coverage matrix is terminal and green, the independent Bugbot exact-diff review found no actionable bug, and the fresh GraphQL inventory reports zero unresolved review threads.
  • Greptile produced no exact-head response after the explicit retrigger; that silence is recorded as unavailable review evidence, not approval.

Older completed CodeRabbit receipts #5328842384 and #5331225179 were also given the previously missing positive reactions so every observed bot receipt now has explicit feedback.

Separate exact-head source and packed-tarball acceptance from prior-release channel-health checks.

Append the correction through pm so the hash-chained record remains immutable and the v2026.8.18 tag is never presented as evidence for the later PR #1059 merge.

Merge reviewed PM closeout evidence for PR #1059.

The record separates exact-head source and packed-artifact acceptance from prior-release channel-health checks. All required exact-head checks passed and every actionable review thread was resolved.
