Summary

  • make item scalar merge decisions converge by document recency while exposing the exact retained side and decision basis through the public SDK
  • persist bounded non-sensitive durable decision previews for fresh-clone review, with strict policy, identity, hash, and availability validation
  • add an audited force-only compatibility path for exact pre-durable clone-local receipt references without rewriting history
  • harden packed npx and bunx smoke execution, refresh compatible Node types, and regenerate the canonical changelog with pm-changelog 2026.9.2

Summary by Sourcery

Strengthen merge decision integrity by making scalar conflict resolution recency-aware, preserving reviewable evidence safely, and enabling narrowly audited recovery of legacy receipt references.

New Features:

  • Expose recency-based scalar merge outcomes, retained sides, and resolution evidence through the public SDK and receipts.
  • Persist bounded, policy-validated scalar previews in durable merge evidence for fresh-clone review.
  • Add an audited force-only recovery path for unrecoverable pre-durable clone-local receipt references.

Bug Fixes:

  • Make conflicting item scalar merges converge on the latest document update, using stable ordering only for equal timestamps.
  • Improve merge receipt validation diagnostics by distinguishing schema failures from identity failures and reporting bounded validation reasons.
  • Prevent valid slow dependency reification from failing packed npx and bunx smoke tests.

Enhancements:

  • Harden merge health and reconciliation so missing receipt evidence remains blocking unless an exact, historically eligible audited disposition is recorded.

Build:

  • Refresh the compatible @types/node dependency and lockfile.

Documentation:

  • Update merge safety, SDK evidence contracts, and the canonical changelog for the strengthened merge decision and recovery behavior.

Tests:

  • Expand merge direction, receipt policy, receipt integrity, reconciliation, legacy recovery, and smoke timeout coverage.

Chores:

  • Regenerate PM tracking artifacts and associated history records.

Summary by cubic

Converges item scalar merge conflicts by document recency instead of lexicographic value order, persists bounded non-sensitive decision evidence for fresh-clone review, and adds an audited force-only reconciliation for legacy clone-local-only receipt references.

Bug Fixes

  • Same-field scalar conflicts now retain the latest document update in both directions, with the retained side and resolution basis exposed through the SDK; --prefer ours|theirs is recorded but no longer applied to item scalars. Missing scalar decisions use a reserved absence marker, kept distinct from absent values, and are hashed through collision-free public SDK primitives domain-separated from present values.
  • Merge receipts now persist bounded non-sensitive decision previews under strict policy, identity, hash, and availability validation, so fresh clones can review discarded values; receipt validation distinguishes schema from identity failures and accepts legacy version-one hashes during exact snapshot verification.
  • Remediation for merge_receipt_history_reference_missing now starts with non-mutating pm merge reconcile --dry-run; --force appends an audited disposition for exact pre-durable clone-local references without rewriting history, accepts only exact legacy evidence and trusted receipts, and fails closed on bounded missing-receipt batches. The repeated-pass termination condition references only public result fields and is locked by a negative regression.
  • Packed npx and bunx smoke runs no longer reject valid slow installs: the subprocess timeout rose from 120 to 600 seconds and the tarball is installed once for multi-command consumers.

Dependencies

  • Updates @types/node to 26.4.1, lowers the ESLint suppression ceiling, and regenerates the changelog with pm-changelog 2026.9.2.

Written for commit d0c21dd. Summary will update on new commits.

Review in cubic

- converge item scalars by document recency with explicit decision evidence
- preserve bounded reviewable durable receipt values and exact validation
- reconcile unrecoverable pre-durable references through audited dispositions
- harden packed npx timeout and refresh compatible Node types
- document contracts, close PM lineage, and regenerate the changelog

Recency-aware scalar convergence
src/sdk/merge/three-way.ts, src/sdk/merge/driver.ts, src/sdk/history-repair.ts, src/sdk/merge/index.ts, tests/unit/sdk/merge-direction-contract.spec.ts
Scalar conflicts use document recency, with stable ordering for equal timestamps. Decisions record retained-side and resolution-basis metadata. Missing scalars use a reserved marker and shared hash helper.
Durable receipt evidence and validation
src/sdk/merge/receipts.ts, sdk/public-surface.json, tests/unit/sdk/merge-receipts.spec.ts, docs/MERGE_SAFETY.md, docs/SDK_CONTEXT_EVIDENCE_CONTRACTS.md
Receipts support bounded inline values, hash-only values, availability modes, decision provenance, and separate schema and identity validation errors.
Audited legacy receipt reconciliation
src/sdk/governance/merge-receipt-history.ts, src/sdk/governance/health.ts, src/sdk/merge/reconcile.ts, src/core/diagnostics/remediation.ts, tests/unit/sdk/merge-reconcile.spec.ts, tests/integration/legacy-merge-receipt-history.integration.spec.ts
Reconciliation identifies eligible pre-durable references, records exact forced dispositions, reruns health, and reports before-and-after counts. Forced reconciliation does not settle unrelated unproven receipts.

Maintenance and release records

Assessment against linked issues

Issue Objective Addressed Explanation
#1184 Resolve conflicting item scalar fields using the later document's updated_at timestamp, with stable value ordering only as a deterministic tie-break, so newer writes win for statuses, numeric fields, and other scalars while merge direction remains convergent. ✅
#1184 Make the documented behavior of --prefer accurate for item scalar conflicts by either applying the requested side or explicitly documenting that the preference does not apply under the convergent recency policy. ✅
#1184 Expose sufficient merge-decision metadata for reviewers and SDK consumers to distinguish recency-based decisions from equal-timestamp stable-order tie-breaks and identify the retained side. ✅
#1185 Make discarded and retained merge-conflict values readable through the merge receipt and pm merge report, including after reviewing the durable receipt from a fresh clone. ❌ The PR adds bounded inline previews only for selected non-sensitive scalar values such as built-in statuses, priority values, ordinals, and null. Titles, descriptions, custom statuses, and other values remain hash-only in durable receipts, with no truncation or --values mechanism. Thus the reviewing agent still cannot see many discarded values, which is the central issue.
#1185 Preserve verifiable hashes while making the availability of inline values explicit and safely validating durable receipt evidence. ✅
#1186 Provide a repair path for unrecoverable pre-durable merge-receipt history references so strict health can be made clean without rewriting or deleting the original history. ✅
#1186 Replace the diagnostic-only remediation for missing merge-receipt references with an actionable command and ensure reconciliation reports and verifies the missing-reference repair state. ✅
#1186 Improve merge-receipt evidence diagnostics, including identifying the specific schema or identity validation failure for invalid receipts. ✅

Useful risk summary. The three integrity concerns were independently verified: two are fixed as reported, and the legacy-summary eligibility path now uses a stricter historically exact pre-durable schema predicate. The docstring signal is also covered by the repository mandatory source-docstring gate.

The completed review produced three concrete integrity checks. All three have been triaged and addressed in the pending remediation commit, with focused regressions and exact gates.

The performance report was reviewed and retained as evidence for the packed-smoke optimization; the smoke now reuses one installed consumer and completed locally within the hosted timeout.

This review could not run because the provider quota was exhausted, so it provides no approval or product-quality signal. The other independent reviewers and mandatory gates remain authoritative.

All three actionable comments were independently reproduced and triaged. Scoped receipt settlement and collision-free missing-scalar evidence are fixed directly; malformed pre-durable summaries are now rejected with a stricter schema predicate.

Encode missing scalar decisions with collision-free public SDK primitives, restrict forced reconciliation to exact legacy evidence and trusted receipts, and reuse one packed consumer while preserving npx and bunx execution coverage.

Record governed defect evidence, reduce the ESLint suppression budget, and add focused regressions for every review finding.

All four actionable findings were reproduced and fixed: the gate registry ratchet is aligned and tested, preview validation uses the shared hash helper, scalar hashing now has disjoint presence domains with a reserved-shape boundary, and the temporary receipt test owns an isolated Git root.

This verification ran against the prior 0ab7b head before the strict eligibility predicate and negative controls were pushed. The exact fab17e2 review inspected the replacement and did not repeat the stale finding.

Domain-separate present and missing scalar hashes, reserve the serialized absence marker at the item merge boundary, and keep durable validation on the shared hash primitive.

Align the registered suppression ceiling, isolate receipt fixtures from ambient Git state, and add regression and documentation coverage.

Round 3 requested after addressing every round 2 finding: the static gate registry is synchronized and guarded by an integration contract, receipt validation uses the shared scalar hash helper, missing and present scalar evidence now use disjoint domains with the serialized marker reserved at item-merge input, and receipt test workspaces are Git-isolated. The exact head passes 603 files / 8,354 tests at 100/100/100/100 plus the complete static-quality pipeline.

Keep null distinct from an absent scalar during merge comparison.

Line 516 treats null and undefined as equal. If the base value is null, ours deletes the field later, and theirs changes it earlier, mergeScalarThreeWay selects theirs as a clean change. The latest_document_update policy does not run. The merged item loses the newer deletion and emits no conflict decision.

Use separate present and missing comparison domains here. Add a regression for null → absent versus an older scalar edit.
