Summary

A non-combo request whose key or OAuth account rotated, or whose policy fallback moved to another target, logged only its last attempt's usage as the row total. The rotation splits the attempt row and deletes logCtx.usage, and addFinalRequestLog only aggregated attempts when comboId was set. Everything that reads the row root therefore under-reported what was spent: /api/logs, the routing-history index usage_json / total_tokens, and the unfiltered usage summary (the filtered summary already re-projects from attempts).

Example: key A returns 429 with a usage body (100 in / 20 out), key B answers (300 / 40). The row said 300 / 40 (340 total tokens). With this change it says 400 / 60 (460 total).

Change (src/server/request-log.ts): a non-combo row with two or more attempts takes its total from the existing aggregateAttemptUsage, as combo rows already do.

Rows that keep their request-level usage:

  • Single-attempt rows. Nothing was split, so there is nothing to sum. They keep their request-level usage and the input estimate it was finalized with, including the Claude request token floor.
  • Locally answered rows (localTerminalReason). They sent nothing and keep their own usage.

Combo behaviour is unchanged. The rule that a reader takes either the attempts or the request total, never both, still holds: the row total is derived from the attempts, not added to them.

Status change on rotated or fallback rows: the row usageStatus now follows the same aggregate rule combo rows already use. If any attempt is unreported, the row is unreported. For example, a key that got a 429 with no usage body makes the whole row unreported. Today such a row claims reported from its last attempt alone. The usage summary then counts the row as unmetered, so its cost leaves the priced total. This matches how a combo failover row with an unmeasured attempt is classified today.

structure/dashboard-and-usage.md documents the rule.

Verification

Bun 1.4.3 (OCX_TEST_RUNNER_BUN).

  • Red on upstream/dev (0b13396): the new test tests/usage/key-attribution.test.ts › "a rotated non-combo request totals every physical attempt, not only the last" failed. Expected 400 / 60 (460 total), received 300 / 40, the last attempt only.
  • Green on the branch: bun test tests/usage/key-attribution.test.ts (16 pass), tests/usage/request-log.test.ts (76 pass), tests/routing/routing-policy-dispatch-scope.test.ts (19 pass).
  • tests/routing/routing-policy-dispatch-scope.test.ts › "local refusal log rollback keeps physical attempts" asserted the old last-attempt row total for a two-target policy fallback (a 429, then c or b). It now expects the sum of both physical attempts. Its subject, that the skipped candidate's local usage (999) never leaks into the row, is unchanged.
  • bun run typecheck: clean.
  • bun run structure:check: passed.
  • bun run test:changed (run on the first revision, which aggregated single-attempt rows too, a superset of this change): 15662 pass, 35 skip, 2 fail across 631 files. The focused files and typecheck were re-run after narrowing to 2+ attempts.
    • tests/cli/cli-connect-readiness.test.ts › "a rejected preferred runtime falls back without rewriting the saved selection" also fails on clean upstream/dev.
    • tests/windows/windows-tray.test.ts › "Bun probe fixture reports readiness…" passes in isolation on both the branch and clean dev. It is a timing flake under full-run load.
  • The full bun run test was not run locally because several worktrees were contending for resources. That coverage is left to CI.

📝 Walkthrough

Request logging now aggregates usage across multiple attempts for non-combo requests, except when the request was answered locally. Single-attempt and locally answered requests retain request-level usage. Tests and usage documentation cover these rules.

The logger aggregates attempt usage for multi-attempt non-combo requests that were not answered locally. Tests verify aggregated totals and locally answered usage. Documentation describes which rows use attempt totals. Single-attempt requests retain request-level usage.

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to ded97

Current logging behavior is implemented, but tests do not protect the multi-attempt local-answer exception or mixed-status finalization. These are bounded usage-log accuracy coverage gaps; overall merge risk is low.

A key or account rotation splits the attempt row and clears the request
usage, so a non-combo row reported only its last attempt. A row with two or
more attempts now takes its total from aggregateAttemptUsage, as combos
already did. Single-attempt and locally answered rows keep their
request-level usage.
