- Around line 1331-1332: Update the search-hit mapping that builds `sources` to
preserve each hit’s `encrypted_content` through the search event and outbound
translation, alongside the existing URL and optional title, so successful
results remain replayable in a later Claude client turn. Add a follow-up-turn
regression test that verifies this field survives the full path.
- Around line 1320-1321: Update parseStream so a server_search_call begun
alongside client tool_use retains its pending ID across the continuation, or so
a result-only block can match by tool_use_id; ensure the deferred result emits
the matching search completion. Add coverage for this mixed client/server-tool
turn.

…on the translated lane The Claude Messages translation maps web_search_* to the hosted Responses tool and drops web_fetch_*, so a translated route to api.anthropic.com lost both whenever the web-search sidecar had no plan. The caller's typed declarations now travel out of body (like the native reasoning replay), are kept only for inboundWire "anthropic", and the anthropic adapter appends them for api.anthropic.com. A same-named function tool (the sidecar's web_search) keeps priority. Streamed server_tool_use + web_search_tool_result map to the existing web_search_call begin/end events, which the Claude outbound already renders as the block pair. Co-Authored-By: Claude Code <noreply@anthropic.com>
A server_tool_use Anthropic defers beside a client tool_use has no web_search_tool_result in that response, so the early begin left a phantom completed search. The begin/end pair is now emitted at the result block, matched by tool_use_id, so a result arriving in a later response is still surfaced. Co-Authored-By: Claude Code <noreply@anthropic.com>

Summary
Part 1 of 3: a Claude client's typed
web_search_*/web_fetch_*server tools now reach an Anthropic target on the translated Claude lane.Problem. The Messages→Responses translation (
toolsToResponses) mapsweb_search_*to the hosted Responses{type:"web_search"}and dropsweb_fetch_*(no Responses equivalent). When the request lands on the translated lane toapi.anthropic.com(combo/policy routes, OAuth without the native rollout, or any bridge-only policy) and the web-search sidecar has no plan (no ChatGPT login, explicitenabled: false, unusable backend credential), the Anthropic adapter receives neither tool, so Claude cannot search or fetch even though Anthropic can run both server-side.Change.
src/claude/inbound-content-options.ts:declaredAnthropicServerTools(raw)returns the caller's typedweb_(search|fetch)_<version>declarations unchanged. The translated Responses body is not changed, so GPT/Responses legs behave exactly as before.src/server/claude-messages.tspasses them tohandleResponsesout of body (the same reasonnativeReasoningReplayis out of body: an in-body marker would leak through a native Responses forward and 400). One import line and one option line; the hunks stay clear of themax_tokensstrip, thecacheRetentionargument and the non-stream error status that other open PRs touch.core-options.ts/request-prepare.ts/types/request.ts: carried ontoparsed._anthropicServerTools, set only wheninboundWire === "anthropic".response-effects.tsclears it on routed compaction, like_webSearch.src/adapters/anthropic.ts(buildRequest): forapi.anthropic.comonly (an Anthropic-compatible third party may not implement server tools), the declarations are appended after the function tools, with the caller'scache_controlremoved, because this lane places its own breakpoints.src/adapters/anthropic.ts(parseStream): a streamedserver_tool_usenamedweb_search→web_search_call_begin, and itsweb_search_tool_result→web_search_call_end(emitted together at the result block, matched bytool_use_id: query from the same response's streamed input, hit URLs/titles, orfailedfor an error object).src/claude/outbound.tsalready renders those events as theserver_tool_use+web_search_tool_resultpair plususage.server_tool_use.web_search_requests, so Claude Code shows the search cell and counts it.Sidecar interaction. The web-search sidecar keeps priority. When it plans the turn, it injects a
web_searchfunction tool, and a same-named function tool always wins over a typed declaration, so the typedweb_searchis skipped and the sidecar runs as today. This also prevents a duplicate tool name: on OAuthweb_searchis a builtin name and is not given thecustom_prefix, so Anthropic would reject the request. This matchesbridgeOnlyPolicyAppliesinsrc/server/messages-native-eligibility.ts, which keeps a web-search request on the bridge so the sidecar can engage.web_fetchhas no sidecar and is always carried.Beta. No beta header is added. The current Anthropic web fetch docs list
web_fetch_20250910throughweb_fetch_20260318with noanthropic-betarequirement, and web search is GA as well. The proxy's ownweb_search_20250305sidecar executor already sends it without a beta. Not in this PR (parts 2/3).
web_fetchresults to the client (server_tool_usenamedweb_fetch+web_fetch_tool_result). In this PR Anthropic runs the fetch and the answer uses it, but the client sees only the resulting text.url_citation/ Anthropiccitationson text blocks.parseResponsepath is not mapped. The Claude lane always streams internally.Verification
tests/claude-integration/claude-translated-server-tools.test.tsinto a cleanupstream/devworktree, where 3 fail (typed tools absent from the Anthropic wire, noserver_tool_use/web_search_tool_resultin the client stream, sidecar-priority case). The 2 guard cases (third-party Anthropic-compatible endpoint, GPT leg body) pass on both sides. On this branch all 5 pass. Follow-up 6899baf (CodeRabbit) adds 3 more: a search Anthropic defers beside a clienttool_usesurfaces nothing, and a result-only block is still surfaced by itstool_use_id(both red on 83d7063). The third is a guard: a replayed search pair withoutencrypted_contentnever reaches Anthropic. 8/8 pass.openai-chatdestination still has noweb_fetchand noweb_search_2025*.bun run typecheck: clean.bun test tests/claude-integration/claude-translated-server-tools.test.ts tests/test-layout.test.ts tests/test-layout-tooling.test.ts tests/responses/protocol-messages-ir-parity.test.ts: all pass.bun run test:changed(Bun 1.4.3): 16729 pass, 1 fail.
