Preserve whole tuple rows before omitted trailing arrays - #7625
Whole tuple rows now bind to the first parameter when a plain trailing array is omitted. The remaining array receives an empty value, including when an injected cancellation token follows it. Runtime normalization, generated tuple reconstruction, and analyzer validation apply the same final-data-parameter rule.
Regression coverage includes reference and value tuples, explicitly instantiated generic methods, and reference tuples containing mutable elements. Automatic whole-row generic inference remains in #7620; the existing generic analyzer limitation (#7622) is suppressed only on the generic regression.
Validation:
Reference-tuple analyzer suite: 68 passed.
Affected generator snapshot: passed; intentional output reviewed and updated.
Tuple fixture: 27 passed in generated mode and 27 in reflection mode.
Mutable tuple fixture: 24 passed in generated mode and 24 in reflection mode.
git diff --check passed.
Engine integration suite left to CI per repository instructions. No public API changes or new reflection operations; AOT publishing was not run.
Review fix (7f7766dcd6): wrapped tuple rows now share the whole-row omission rule. Added wrapped reference and value tuple regressions (including a trailing injected cancellation token). Both new cases failed before the fix; the full fixture now passes 29/29 in generated mode and 29/29 in reflection mode. git diff --check passed.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Fixed test data binding when tuple parameters are followed by an array parameter. Remaining values are now correctly collected by the array, including for generic and reference tuples, wrapped data rows, and cases with a cancellation token. Tests also cover scenarios where no values remain for the array.
CI fix (18a3876f98): use the existing Engine vector-array compatibility pattern so netstandard2.0 compiles, and update the integration fixture total from 49 to 55 for the six added regression cases. Validation: reproduced the old netstandard build failure; the fixed Engine build passes with zero warnings/errors. All 55 _7212 cases pass in generated mode and all 55 pass in reflection mode. The parallel test-app build hit known #7468; a single-node build passed. Engine integration execution remains assigned to CI. No generated output or public API changed.
The analyzer, source generator, and engine now support whole-tuple binding when a test method has a final single-dimensional array parameter that can be omitted. Added tests cover analyzer validation and runtime tuple-and-array cases, including cases with generic parameters and a cancellation token.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Directly linked issue #7623 requires whole reference-tuple binding before an omitted plain trailing array, with runtime and analyzer regression coverage in both execution modes.
Runtime [#7623]: The reviewed head of src/TUnit.Engine/Helpers/DataUnwrapper.cs applies RemainingDataParametersAreOmittable to the tuple-binding decision. It treats a final single-dimensional zero-based array as omittable. It skips trailing CancellationToken parameters when it finds the last data parameter. GetTupleDataParameterType applies the same rule to wrapped rows. A whole tuple therefore binds to the first parameter, and the trailing array receives an empty value.
CI fix [#7623]: The IsSingleDimensionalZeroBasedArray helper uses Type.IsSZArray when NET is defined. Other targets use IsArray with a Name ending in "[]". For single-dimensional zero-based arrays, both branches give the same result. Multi-dimensional arrays are excluded in both branches. Runtime behavior on the net target is unchanged, so the earlier conclusion holds.
Generated tuple reconstruction and analyzer [#7623]: The earlier review found that TestMetadataGenerator.cs accepts the final parameter when CollectsTrailingArguments() is true. TestDataAnalyzer.cs CanBindWholeTupleWithOmissions removes CancellationToken parameters and accepts a final IArrayTypeSymbol with IsSZArray. The WholeTupleBeforePlainArray analyzer test expects no diagnostics. The CI fix does not change these files.
Regression coverage [#7623]: TupleParameterWithOptionalParameterTests.cs covers reference and wrapped reference rows with a trailing array, a generic row, a value tuple with a trailing injected CancellationToken, and a mutable reference tuple. The integration total in Issue7212Tests.cs changes from 49 to 55 to match the six added cases. The PR reports 55/55 passing in generated and reflection modes. I did not run these tests. Those results come from the PR description.
Not covered here: automatic whole-row generic inference (#7620) and the generic analyzer limitation (#7622). The PR states both are separate. The generic regression suppresses only TUnit0001, as #7623 permits.
Limits: The incremental diff from the previous reviewed head (2b2b232) to head (18a3876) was unavailable. The changed blobs were missing from the checkout. I read the current head file for DataUnwrapper.cs directly. I did not re-read the analyzer or generator files at head in this pass. Their conclusions carry forward from the previous assessment. The analyzer and generator changes in this commit range are not listed in the change summary. Engine integration results remain with CI.

Explanation
All production changes relate to #7623. DataUnwrapper.cs, TestDataAnalyzer.cs, and TestMetadataGenerator.cs change only the whole-tuple omission rule for plain trailing arrays. The runtime, generator, and analyzer apply the same rule.
The CI fix (18a3876) changes only the array-type check in DataUnwrapper.cs. It makes the code compile on netstandard2.0. It does not add behavior. The integration total change in Issue7212Tests.cs matches the six added regression cases. These changes support #7623.
The GetTupleDataParameterType rewrite keeps wrapped rows on the same rule as unwrapped rows. This is the behavior the review fix describes. The generator snapshot update is a supporting artifact for the generator change. The PR states that it adds no public API changes and no new reflection operations. No unrelated refactoring appears in the reviewed code.
Limits: The incremental diff was unavailable, so I did not compare the full change set line by line for the latest commit. The conclusion relies on the current head file and the change summary.

A rabbit found a tuple row, Then watched an empty array grow. The token hopped along behind, While tests checked each value’s kind. The analyzer joined the play, And bound the whole tuple the right way.
The generator, analyzer and runtime all apply the same rule, and I found no correctness problems.
Generator: TestMetadataGenerator.cs uses CollectsTrailingArguments, which is true for a params parameter or an SZ array.
Analyzer: it uses IsSZArray on the last non-CancellationToken parameter.
Runtime: DataUnwrapper uses Type.IsSZArray on the last non-CancellationToken parameter.
Multidimensional arrays are excluded in all three. The snapshot shows the intended behaviour: with one argument the array becomes Array.Empty<int> and the tuple is rebuilt at index 0.
Tests cover reference and value tuples, generic methods, mutable elements, and both execution modes.
Suggestions, none blocking:
The rule is written out three times. A short comment in each place pointing at the others would stop them drifting apart.
In the analyzer, the SymbolEqualityComparer check on the last parameter could be an index comparison, and the && inside the || would read better with explicit grouping.
The runtime loop that skips trailing CancellationToken parameters could be a small helper.
I did not run the tests. The engine integration suite is left to CI per AGENTS.md. Looks good to merge once CI is green.
The change is consistent across the three layers the project requires to agree: the runtime normalizer (DataUnwrapper), the generator's tuple reconstruction, and the analyzer. I found no blocking issues.
What I checked
DataUnwrapper.GetTupleDataParameterType now returns on the first non-token parameter and reuses RemainingDataParametersAreOmittable. Wrapped and unwrapped rows now share one rule, which is a good simplification over the old scan-ahead loop.
RemainingDataParametersAreOmittable skips trailing CancellationTokens when it finds the last data parameter, so (Tuple, int[], CancellationToken) is handled.
The generator uses CollectsTrailingArguments() and the analyzer uses IsSZArray. They agree for the new case, because the extra IsParams check is already covered by the existing IsOptional || IsParams branch. The runtime check also uses IsSZArray, so multidimensional arrays are excluded everywhere.
Regression coverage includes reference and value tuples, a generic method, mutable elements, wrapped rows, and a trailing cancellation token. The generator snapshot is updated.
Suggestions (non-blocking)
The same rule now exists in three hand-written copies: the analyzer, the generator and the runtime. They already differ in form (IsSZArray vs CollectsTrailingArguments()). A shared helper, or at least a comment in each place pointing at the others, would stop them drifting apart. Analyzer, generator and runtime code can't easily share one implementation, so a cross-reference comment is the pragmatic option.
In the analyzer, SymbolEqualityComparer.Default.Equals(parameter, dataParameters[^1]) could be an index comparison. That would avoid comparing symbols and make the "last data parameter" intent obvious.
The runtime IsSZArray check has no equivalent of the generator's IsParams fallback, but IsParams is already accepted earlier in the same condition, so this is only a readability point.
Overall this is good to merge once CI is green (the engine integration suite is left to CI, as the PR notes).
The change looks good. The analyzer, the source generator and the runtime unwrapper (DataUnwrapper) now agree on one rule. A whole tuple row binds to the first parameter when every later data parameter is optional, params, or the final data parameter is a plain single-dimensional array. Injected CancellationTokens are skipped when finding the final data parameter.
I checked these points:
Array check: the analyzer and runtime use IsSZArray / Type.IsSZArray. The generator uses CollectsTrailingArguments(), which is IsParams || IsSZArray. Multidimensional arrays are excluded in all three, so they behave the same.
GetTupleDataParameterType: it now returns at the first data parameter and reuses RemainingDataParametersAreOmittable, so wrapped and unwrapped rows follow the same rule. This also removes the earlier divergent scanning loop.
Tests: there are regressions for reference and value tuples, generic methods, mutable tuples, wrapped rows and a trailing cancellation token. The generator snapshot and analyzer test are updated.
Suggestions, not blockers:
The rule is written out three times, in the analyzer, the generator and DataUnwrapper. A future change to one could miss the others. If the analyzer and generator can share a helper (for example an extension next to CollectsTrailingArguments), that would reduce the risk. The runtime copy can't share it, so the cross-mode tests you already have are the right safeguard there.
In the analyzer and generator, a || b || c && d relies on && binding tighter than ||. Adding parentheses around the && clause would make that clearer.
The analyzer's last-parameter check compares symbols with SymbolEqualityComparer against dataParameters[^1]. Comparing the index would be simpler and avoid the comparer.
Marked ready after Claude and Codex approved current head 2b2b232 and all review threads were resolved. Optional refactoring suggestions remain dispositioned as nonblocking cleanup.
The change is consistent and I found no blocking issues. The analyzer, generator and runtime unwrapper now all apply the same rule: a whole tuple row binds to the first parameter when every later data parameter is optional, params, or a trailing single-dimension array. The injected CancellationToken is skipped when finding that trailing parameter.
I checked these points:
The generator's CollectsTrailingArguments() is IsParams || IsSZArray. That matches the analyzer's and engine's IsParams plus IsSZArray checks, so the multi-dimensional int[,] case behaves the same in all three places.
GetTupleDataParameterType now reuses RemainingDataParametersAreOmittable, so wrapped and unwrapped rows share one rule. This removes the earlier scan-forward loop that duplicated it.
The tests cover reference and value tuples, wrapped rows, an injected token after the array, and the generic case. The snapshot update is intentional.
Suggestions, not blockers:
The rule exists in three copies (TestDataAnalyzer, TestMetadataGenerator, DataUnwrapper). They are correct and agree today, but the next change to the omission rule has to touch all three. The analyzer and generator could share a small helper, for example CanOmitTrailingDataParameters(IMethodSymbol) in a shared source-level project. I'd do that in a follow-up.
The analyzer and the generator filter the token differently. The analyzer removes every CancellationToken parameter, but the engine only strips trailing ones. A token in the middle of the parameter list is unusual and probably unsupported, so I'd only note it.
DataUnwrapper has a minor cleanup. The reverse scan for lastDataParameterIndex runs on every call. Parameter metadata is stable per test, so you could compute it once if this shows up in a profile. It is not a hot path today.

The earlier blocker is cleared: run 41965582482 succeeded and its Claude review has no blockers. Fresh CI instead exposed two defects, fixed in 18a3876:
Type.IsSZArray is unavailable on netstandard2.0. Use the same conditional vector-array check already used by Engine discovery, retaining IsSZArray on modern .NET and checking the array name on netstandard2.0.
The integration test still expected 49 cases; the expanded fixture has 55, all passing. Updated both total and passed expectations.
Validation: netstandard2.0 Engine build reproduced the original failure and passes after the fix (zero warnings/errors). The _7212 namespace passes 55/55 in generated mode and 55/55 in reflection mode. git diff --check passed. The initial parallel test-app build hit existing #7468; -m:1 succeeded. Engine.Tests remains for CI per AGENTS.md. Generated output and public API are unchanged.
The old head had positive Claude/Codex reviews and all threads were resolved. This push needs fresh automatic reviews and CI before auto-merge can be armed; no rerun or deferral is needed. Optional earlier cleanup suggestions remain nonblocking. CodeRabbit docstring coverage does not identify a correctness defect or a repository-required check.
The change is coherent and well covered. I found no blocking issues.
What I checked
The runtime rule (DataUnwrapper, including the trailing CancellationToken skip), the generator rule (CollectsTrailingArguments), and the analyzer rule (IsSZArray on the last data parameter) all implement the same condition: the last data parameter may be omitted if it is a plain single-dimensional array.
The rewritten DataUnwrapper loop now applies the same rule to wrapped and unwrapped rows. That removes the earlier divergence the review-fix commit addressed.
Tests cover reference and value tuples, wrapped rows, an injected cancellation token, an explicitly instantiated generic method, and mutable tuple elements. They run in both generated and reflection modes, and the snapshot update is intentional.
Suggestions (non-blocking)
The omissibility rule is now written three times (analyzer, generator, engine), plus the #if NET fallback for IsSZArray. The name.EndsWith("[]") fallback on netstandard is a heuristic. type.IsArray && type.GetArrayRank() == 1 && type.GetElementType()!.MakeArrayType() == type is exact. Alternatively, a short comment could cross-reference the three sites so they stay in sync.
The analyzer's dataParameters[^1] comparison runs inside All(...) for each parameter. Hoisting var last = dataParameters[^1] is cheaper and clearer, though this only runs at analysis time.
A negative test would help. For example, Tuple<int, string> row, int[] extra, string s (array not last) should still report the diagnostic. A multi-dimensional array as the last parameter would pin the SZ-array restriction too.
Overall this looks good to merge once CI is green.

Match runtime reference-tuple assignability in CanBindWholeTupleWithOmissions.
For Tuple<string, string> supplied to Tuple<object, string> row, int[] extra, runtime whole-row binding accepts the row and omits extra. The exact symbol comparison rejects the row in the analyzer, which then reports Rules.WrongArgumentTypeTestData. Use the runtime-equivalent reference conversion while retaining exact matching for value tuples.

The earlier wait is cleared: run 41965582482 succeeded. Current head 18a3876 has passing CI, a positive Claude review (41967531290), and a completed Codex summary with no findings. All three review threads are resolved with fixes named, with no later replies.
CodeRabbit review 5779896546: the reference-tuple conversion finding is not applicable. System.Tuple<T1,T2> is invariant. Verified on .NET 10: typeof(Tuple<object, string>).IsAssignableFrom(typeof(Tuple<string, string>)) and IsInstanceOfType(new Tuple<string, string>("a", "b")) both return false. DataUnwrapper.cs:174 uses that IsInstanceOfType check, so runtime does not accept the claimed conversion; the analyzer's exact symbol comparison agrees. No change is needed.
Claude's current suggestions (shared omission helper/cross-references, hoisting the last-parameter lookup, additional negative cases) are nonblocking follow-up suggestions. The existing netstandard array fallback follows Engine's established compatibility pattern. CodeRabbit docstring coverage is not a repository requirement and has no correctness finding. No blocking or undecided review findings remain; proceeding through the merge wrapper.
