A closed gVisor trace connection does not establish that a container stopped. This adds the next experiment from designs-and-proposals#23: compare the pinned runsc exit points with independent CRI lifecycle records before introducing a stop observation.
The retained trial covers normal application exit, explicit SIGKILL and deliberate receiver disconnection on the self-managed Linux ARM64 K3s VM. The normal case demonstrated a child-task exit followed by a CRI RUNNING sample before the initial task exited. The disconnection case also remained RUNNING until the fixture explicitly killed its owned workload for cleanup.
The initial task's wait status matched CRI exit code 7 for normal exit and 137 for SIGKILL in this run. The pinned build exposes task-exit and parent-notification points, with container/start as its only container-level point. A production stop contract still needs verified initial-task mapping, PID-reuse handling, deduplication, runtime reconciliation and restart/loss coverage. This PR emits no production stop events.
The research receiver keeps only fixed numeric context, claimed IDs and status. It bounds packets, clients, retained records and shutdown, ignores argv/cwd/env and clears raw receive buffers. It is a disposable experiment tool, not the production identity resolver or a general external-event source interface.
Validation: both the initial and stronger final three-case trials completed; only the final run backs the report. Six decoder/evidence tests passed in normal and optimized Python modes. The retained 17 records, CRI ledger, selected metadata, receiver counters, environment hashes and offline analysis are included. Artifact/privacy and whitespace checks passed. The VM's original configuration was restored and it was stopped afterward.
No production Go code, full repository suite, network-egress visibility or managed GKE result is claimed. Follows #1072 and kubescape/designs-and-proposals#23.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Documentation
Added a report and supporting evidence from a bounded ARM64 gVisor experiment, covering normal exits, forced termination, and receiver disconnection.
The results distinguish task-exit observations from container state: the runtime reported containers exited, while sampled state remained running in the normal-exit and receiver-disconnect controls.
The report records that no production stop events were observed and that the container-stop contract is not ready.
Added reproducible experiment steps and evidence validation.

Adds a bounded gVisor event receiver and a three-case experiment for normal exit, forced kill, and receiver disconnection. It records event and runtime evidence, analyzes the results, and documents the limits of the observations for a container-stop contract.

Summary
Decode and receive gVisor events docs/experiments/gvisor-terminal-20261106/trial.py, docs/experiments/gvisor-terminal-20261106/test_trial.py
The receiver validates and decodes selected event frames over a private Unix socket, with limits on clients and retained events. Tests cover decoded fields and malformed frames.
Run cases and record runtime observations docs/experiments/gvisor-terminal-20261106/trial.py, docs/experiments/gvisor-terminal-20261106/evidence/{environment,events,metadata,receiver,runtime-ledger}.json, docs/experiments/gvisor-terminal-20261106/test_trial.py
The experiment runs normal-exit, forced-kill, and receiver-disconnect cases and records event and runtime observations. Its evidence includes a running-state check after receiver disconnection.
Validate evidence and report findings docs/experiments/gvisor-terminal-20261106/analyze.py, docs/experiments/gvisor-terminal-20261106/evidence/{summary.json,../evidence-sha256.json}, docs/experiments/gvisor-terminal-20261106/README.md, docs/experiments/gvisor-terminal-20261106/test_trial.py
The analyzer checks the case matrix, event fields, runtime states, exit codes, and control observations. The evidence summary and report state that production stop events are zero and the stop contract is not ready.

The README reports 980 points, but the retained inventory reports 982. A reader cannot tell which count to expect when reproducing the inventory. Verify the count against the pinned binary and update the inconsistent artifact.

Finalize failed trials and clean up their namespace.
If a case fails after Pod creation, preserve the sanitized receiver evidence and delete the namespace created by this run. Otherwise, the Pod and namespace remain until manual cleanup, receiver records are lost, and a rerun with a fresh output directory fails at namespace creation.

Approving head 94896fb (base main). Docs-only research PR: no production Go code, no stop events emitted, so nothing here can regress node-agent behavior.
Need/fit: follows merged #1072/#1069 and designs-and-proposals#23. It shows a closed trace connection and a child task exit are both nonterminal, so a stop contract is still conditional. No duplicate or superseded PR found: searches of node-agent PRs and issues for "gvisor" and "gvisor stop" turned up only the author's earlier merged gVisor PRs and issue #894, which is related but not overlapping. No rejected prior approach found.
Soundness: the receiver bounds frames, clients, retained events and shutdown, and discards argv/cwd/env. I read trial.py and analyze.py. The wait-status claims (7<<8 = 1792, SIGKILL = 9) and the CRI exit codes (7, 137) are consistent with the retained evidence.
Validation: I ran python3 -m unittest discover on the PR's tests locally and all 6 passed. CI (component tests, CodeQL, DCO) is green. I did not re-run the K3s/ARM64 trial, so the empirical results rest on the retained evidence. They are not independently reproduced.
Non-blocking: README line 12 says the metadata has 980 points, but evidence/metadata.json has point_count: 982 (CodeRabbit's open thread). Please reconcile the two numbers; it is a doc-only inconsistency and doesn't change any conclusion.
