Summary

Resolves #6268 by allowing self-hosted or proxied TypeSafe JEV endpoints to be configured and reached.

Previously, resolveJevDecision and the management provider probe strictly required providerMatchesRegistryTransport("jev", configured). Because the registry entry for jev is pinned to https://api.typesafe.ai/v1/systemone without allowBaseUrlOverride, configuring a custom baseUrl caused providerMatchesRegistryTransport to return false. As a result:

  1. resolveJevDecision ignored the configured apiKey and fell back to empty/environment keys.
  2. resolveJevDecision always posted to the hardcoded JEV_API_URL rather than the configured baseUrl.
  3. The provider test probe in /api/providers/test skipped JEV testing entirely when providerMatchesRegistryTransport failed.

Changes

  • Added isConfiguredJev helper to recognize jev provider configurations (adapter: "jev-decision", authMode: "key", valid baseUrl).
  • Added resolveJevEndpoint(config) to resolve the active JEV endpoint (custom baseUrl if configured, otherwise canonical JEV_API_URL).
  • Updated resolveJevDecision to use isConfiguredJev for key resolution and resolveJevEndpoint(options.config) for outbound post and redirect tracking.
  • Updated /api/providers/test probe routing in src/server/management/provider-routes.ts to test JEV connectivity when either providerMatchesRegistryTransport matches or prov.adapter === "jev-decision".
  • Added automated unit test in tests/routing/jev-decision.test.ts verifying custom/proxied baseUrl and auth header dispatch.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

JEV provider ownership now recognizes configurations that use the jev-decision adapter and a nonblank base URL. JEV decision requests and redirect validation use the resolved endpoint. The connectivity probe also recognizes providers using that adapter, and a test covers a custom endpoint and API key.

Custom JEV endpoint support

Layer / File(s) Summary
JEV provider ownership and endpoint resolution
src/combos/jev.ts, src/combos/index.ts
Lines 557–571 define the configuration predicate and endpoint resolver. Lines 548 and 590 use the predicate for provider ownership and API-key selection. Lines 19–25 define canonical URL matching, and the barrel exports these functions at lines 62–69.
Decision request and redirect handling
src/combos/jev.ts
Lines 616–622 pass the resolved endpoint to the outbound request. Line 635 validates redirects against that endpoint. The existing API-key fallback order remains at line 590.
Connectivity probe and request test
src/server/management/provider-routes.ts, tests/routing/jev-decision.test.ts
Line 1619 enables the JEV decision probe for providers using the jev-decision adapter. Test lines 344–374 check a custom URL, bearer credential, and applied decision.

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 32ea3

Explicitly opted-in private HTTP JEV endpoints still cannot work, leaving an important self-hosted configuration unsupported. Resolve the outbound-policy mismatch and cover real-policy dispatch before merging; existing HTTPS behavior and safe fallback remain intact.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 32ea3

Custom JEV endpoints become trusted recipients of decision data and API keys, including environment-key fallback. Management authentication, HTTPS enforcement, destination restrictions and redirect blocking remain in place. No exploitable control bypass was established, but endpoint and credential configuration now require particular care.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The changed recipient boundary applies to JEV decisions using the same server configuration, not merely to the connectivity probe. Its exposure includes the selected JEV credential and derived decision context. The inspected normal caller supplies server configuration separately from the request body.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The production management dispatcher requires authentication before entering management routes. Admission recognizes the admin credential or authorized GUI sessions; GUI mutations require matching browser origin and CSRF token. The derived catalog credential is restricted to a specific GET request and does not authorize provider mutation or testing.
  • observed — Built-in outbound POSTs require HTTPS, validate destination addresses and use pinned direct transport or the configured proxy. Private destinations require explicit opt-in unless allowed by registry defaults; runtime metadata and link-local destinations remain rejected. Redirects are manual and rejected before another destination receives credentials. Proxy-selected peers and caller-owned fetch executors retain weaker local address-verification guarantees than pinned direct transport.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Redirect bodies are canceled before rejection, non-success HTTP bodies receive best-effort cancellation, and bounded response reads receive the combined timeout and caller signal. These existing containment controls remain on the newly reachable custom-endpoint path.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Consider explicit opt-in for environment-key fallback on noncanonical endpoints, or clearly document that configuring such an endpoint authorizes receipt of those credentials. Dedicated endpoint-specific keys would reduce accidental credential reuse; this is a hardening proposal, not a verified unauthorized-disclosure finding.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue [#6268] has partial implementation. src/combos/jev.ts adds isConfiguredJev and resolveJevEndpoint, and the PR updates JEV requests and src/server/management/provider-routes.ts to use configured JEV settings. The predicate does not require allowPrivateNetwork: true, so a custom endpoint is not an explicit private-network opt-in. src/lib/provider-outbound.ts still rejects every POST whose URL is not HTTPS before private-network evaluation. Therefore an opted-in loopback HTTP endpoint cannot receive the required decision POST. The PR summary also provides no implementation or automated coverage for the required HTTP/private destination rules, metadata/link-local/unspecified rejection, or loopback HTTP dispatch. The requested fail-open behavior is not established for the new transport path.

Resolution

Update isConfiguredJev or the JEV ownership check to require allowPrivateNetwork: true for custom self-hosted endpoints. Update src/lib/provider-outbound.ts so HTTP is accepted only after the destination policy proves an explicitly allowed loopback/localhost/private destination; keep HTTPS required for public destinations and keep metadata, link-local, and unspecified destinations blocked. Preserve manual redirect blocking. Add tests for loopback HTTP dispatch, opt-in rejection, public HTTP rejection, metadata/link-local/unspecified rejection, connectivity probing, and the existing fail-open cases.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy lift

Support explicitly opted-in private HTTP endpoints through the outbound policy.

For providers.jev with adapter: "jev-decision", baseUrl: "http://127.0.0.1:8080/v1/systemone", a configured API key, and allowPrivateNetwork: true, this call still cannot reach the configured endpoint. src/lib/provider-outbound.ts, Lines 160–163, rejects every non-HTTPS POST before it evaluates the destination or private-network opt-in.

src/combos/jev.ts, Lines 669–675, converts that rejection into gate: "network". Decision requests therefore always use the fallback. The connectivity probe in src/server/management/provider-routes.ts, Lines 1621–1645, also reports failure for this configuration.

Extend the shared outbound policy to admit HTTP only for explicitly opted-in loopback, localhost, or private destinations. Keep HTTPS mandatory for public destinations. Preserve resolved-address checks, metadata/link-local/unspecified rejection, and redirect blocking. Add regression coverage through the real outbound policy; the injected post in the new test bypasses this rejection.

Based on the supplied PR objectives, Issue #6268 explicitly requires private HTTP dispatch with allowPrivateNetwork: true.

라인 - src/combos/jev.ts / src/lib/provider-outbound.ts: 이슈 재현 설정은 http://127.0.0.1:...

…any opencodex model (#6364)

Carries #6302 (SeongwoongCho), #6185 (yxr1995-maker) and #6275 (codingbooo) as one maintainer PR. A JEV combo's decision can now come from TypeSafe (the default, with byte-identical requests), from a self-hosted System One-compatible server such as Ollama tev1 (a jev-decision provider row with its own key, private network only when allowPrivateNetwork is set, and environment keys only for the official TypeSafe URL), or from any model opencodex already routes. Every option shares the same timeout, size bounds, allowlist validation and fail-open behavior, and refuses a decision model that points back at itself or at a JEV combo. The decision method is set in the Combos detail panel under Models, alongside a Test probe, discovery and per-backend usage statistics. The CLI and management API expose the same controls.

Maintainer follow-ups fix the open review findings:
- Provider deletion resolves aliased and default-routed decision models.
- The config schema no longer imports the server's model-row parser.
- The decision turn sends the model's lowest declared reasoning effort and ignores a leading think block in the reply.
- decision-test refuses unusable System One rows by name.
- Dashboard selectors are normalized together.
- Documentation, the README anchor, tr/vi wording and the README locale hashes are updated.
