feat(combos): JEV decision methods — TypeSafe, System One server, or any opencodex model - #6364
Conversation
…sion models A JEV Combo can name its decision service with `decisionProvider`. Omitted or "jev" keeps the canonical TypeSafe request byte-identical (same URL, env-key fallback, isCanonicalUrl proof, structured criteria), except that a canonical `jev` row's defaultModel may replace jev-latest. Any other id must be a configured `adapter: "jev-decision"` row, e.g. Ollama tev1 at http://127.0.0.1:11434/v1/systemone: its baseUrl is the full endpoint, its model is defaultModel/models[0]/jev-latest, and route options are sent as description strings, which Ollama's System One endpoint requires. Security invariant preserved: TypeSafe credentials stay pinned to the canonical URL. The `jev` id always resolves there (a retargeted `jev` row is still ignored, not treated as a custom destination), and a self-hosted row receives only its own apiKey, or no Authorization header at all. TYPESAFE_API_KEY, JEV_API_KEY and the jev row key are never sent to a custom URL (regression-tested). The row itself is the outbound provider config, so loopback requires its own allowPrivateNetwork; redirects still fail closed. providerOutboundPost gains a caller opt-in, allowLocalCleartextPost, used only by the JEV client, that admits http: solely for a literal loopback/localhost/ private address the row allows; public literals and hostnames keep the HTTPS-only POST gate. Also: decisionTimeoutMs (1000..120000, default 4000) for slow or cold self-hosted models; shared combo validation for unknown/non-decision/non-jev use; management saves and GUI round-trips keep both fields; provider deletion is refused while a combo names the row; every jev-decision row is excluded from catalog gathering and gets the bounded decision connection probe; `ocx combo set --decision-provider/--decision-timeout`; docs, README locales and structure docs. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
…low-ups Cleartext POST gate (src/lib/provider-outbound.ts): allowLocalCleartextPost now admits http: only when the row itself sets allowPrivateNetwork: true (a registry default such as `ollama` no longer counts) and the host is exactly `localhost` or an address literal in a narrow allowlist (127/8, ::1, ::ffff:127.0.0.0/104, 10/8, 172.16/12, 192.168/16, fc00::/7). CGNAT, NAT64, benchmark, link-local, metadata and unspecified addresses never qualify. Every resolved answer must stay inside the allowlist, any applicable proxy (global, provider route, or the DNS-failure degradation) is refused, and an injected executor must be given an address literal. Self-hosted decision rows: the baseUrl path must end in /systemone (checked by combo validation and at request time); a row needs its own defaultModel or models[0] (jev-latest is never sent to a self-hosted host); an apiKey referencing TYPESAFE_API_KEY/JEV_API_KEY or another provider's keychain entry makes the row unusable; option counts outside 2..26 fail open without a round-trip (no_choices / invalid). No gate union member was added. Canonical TypeSafe request is byte-identical to before again: a `jev` row's defaultModel/models are ignored. Explicit decisionProvider "jev" validates exactly like omission and is stored sparsely. A retargeted `jev` row is no longer connection-tested through the generic /models probe with its stored key; it reports not-applicable. rewriteProviderReferences follows combos[*].decisionProvider. Probe wording for disabled/unusable custom rows, CLI bounds from shared constants, CLI reference docs, structure docs. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
A JEV Combo's editor (and the add dialog) now shows Decision service (TypeSafe JEV by default, or any configured adapter "jev-decision" row other than jev, with its endpoint) and Decision timeout (ms), both hidden for other strategies. A JEV save sends decisionProvider and decisionTimeoutMs explicitly, null meaning default, so the dashboard can clear them; switching away from jev drops both from the draft and the payload, matching backend validation. The timeout bounds mirror the server constants and a test asserts they match. The Combos overview lists each JEV Combo's decision service, endpoint and timeout. Create JEV Auto is offered for self-hosted jev-decision rows, keyless included (canonical jev still needs its key), and prefills that row as decisionProvider via ?decisionProvider= on the deep link. Strings in all ten locale catalogs; docs note the dashboard controls. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
The decision-service picker now annotates and disables rows the server
would reject or the runtime would skip: disabled, a baseUrl not ending in
/systemone, no defaultModel/models[0], a missing row, or a row that is not
a decision service. A stored but unusable id stays selected with its
reason so opening the editor never rewrites it, and validateComboDraft
reports invalidDecisionProvider before Save sends a request. Create JEV
Auto uses the same usability check, and a deep link naming an unusable
row falls back to TypeSafe.
A jev -> other -> jev switch keeps the draft's decision fields; only JEV
compares or sends them. The timeout bounds and default now live in the
import-free src/combos/jev-decision-contract.ts shared by server and GUI.
Timeout errors carry {min}/{max}, the select and timeout input are tied
to their hints with aria-describedby, and the JEV strategy and
model-notes hints no longer name TypeSafe, in all ten locales.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
The management API (and so the CLI) accepted a decisionProvider row the runtime would always skip: a disabled row, or one with no defaultModel and no models[0]. The save succeeded and every decision silently fell back. The dashboard already blocked both; the server now matches it via a save-time requireUsableDecisionService option, passed only by the combo PUT route. Config-file load stays lenient so disabling a referenced row never makes the config unloadable. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
A non-pacing PATCH /api/providers could retarget a row that a JEV combo names as its decisionProvider, e.g. switch its adapter away from jev-decision or move its baseUrl off /systemone. The save succeeded, the combo then failed its load-time checks, and the next reload salvaged the whole combos entry away; until then every decision fell back. The POST and bulk-editor routes already validate the complete candidate config; PATCH only did so when pins were touched. An editor PATCH on a row some combo names as decisionProvider now runs the same full candidate validation, before the await-free commit (400) and again under the mutation lock (409 on a racing change). Disabling the row, pacing-only patches, and the existing pin validation are unchanged. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
…ressions Every JEV decision now reports which backend answered it (typesafe, systemone or model) and the request log persists that tag, so decision stats can break latency and apply rate down per backend. Old rows without a tag stay readable and count as unknown. The System One envelope helpers (deadline, option list, fallback) are exported for the model backend that follows. Carries the decision-discovery helpers from #6185 and the destination and custom-endpoint regressions from #6185 and #6275. Co-authored-by: yxr1995-maker <257504378+yxr1995-maker@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: codingbooo <9621077+codingbooo@users.noreply.github.com>
A JEV combo can now set decisionModel instead of a System One row. The same bounded state and option list go to that model as a short prompt, and its JSON answer must name one allowlisted option; anything else fails open like the System One path. The decision turn runs through the normal router with its own turn lease and send budget, carries no caller credential or conversation header, and cannot land on a JEV combo. Saving refuses a decision model that resolves to its own combo or any JEV combo, including same-request aliases and --fast selectors, and revalidates every combo that references a combo being changed. ocx combo set gains --decision-model and keeps unchanged fields on partial updates (carried from #6302). New: POST /api/combos/decision-test with ocx combo test, and GET /api/combos/decision-discovery with ocx combo discover. Co-authored-by: SeongwoongCho <35558061+SeongwoongCho@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: yxr1995-maker <257504378+yxr1995-maker@users.noreply.github.com>
Replace the always-visible decision-service select with a Decision method section in the combo editor and add dialog: TypeSafe, a System One-compatible server, or an opencodex model route, with the shared timeout and a Test probe against POST /api/combos/decision-test. The server select keeps its hint and issue wiring through aria-describedby; the model input gets its own hint. The overview names a model-backed decision, the Stats tab adds a per-method table when the server reports backends, and the detail panel resyncs and clears decisionModel like the other decision fields. Backend labels move to jev-decision-service.ts so the component file exports only components. The GUI refuses only exact self or JEV-combo selectors; synthetic Fast and effort suffixes are left to the server's save-time validation. Tests move the JEV field cases to the method UI and cover the model method, data round trips, validation, option lists, and the per-method stats table. …cision.md providers-and-adapters.md reached 630 lines against the 600-line structure budget. The JEV section moves verbatim into its own tier-4 doc registered in the manifest for src/combos/, src/server/, and src/usage/; the old heading stays as a pointer so existing anchors resolve, the provider preset notes that followed it get their own heading, and dashboard-and-usage.md links the new doc. INDEX.md is regenerated.
Tie each Test result to the selection it describes and show it only while that selection is current, so the selection effect only aborts an in-flight probe. Pass the datalist id through a variable.

The internal model decision turn now sends max_output_tokens: 1024. The answer is one short JSON object; the ceiling bounds billed output including reasoning and gives the spend reservation a nonzero output ceiling. A truncated answer is malformed and fails open. Raised in the security review of this PR.
The routing reference linked a guide heading the Decision method rewrite removed; point it at the System One-compatible server section and describe the dashboard path through the new section. Build the datalist id by concatenation so the i18n lint does not read it as copy.
React Doctor gates every warning in changed files. Stable empty defaults for the combo list props, Set lookups for target effort allowlists, a single flatMap for catalog input modalities, and a status check before the decision-test response body is read.
cws.jev.backend.typesafe is the product name "TypeSafe" in every locale; list it beside the other intentional English labels in the French and zh-TW locale guards.
core-combo.ts reaches the JEV model decision invoker, so the Responses core module inventory must list it for the boundary, size, and acyclicity checks.

- Provider deletion resolves a combo's decisionModel the way routing does, so an alias or a default-routed model counts as a dependency (comboDependsOnProviderRoute). - The config schema uses a string-only stand-in for the synthetic-row grammar instead of importing server/fast-row, which cycled back through config loading and ran Cursor detection. - The decision turn sends the decision model's lowest declared reasoning effort when its ladder is known, and the choice parser drops one leading <think> block. - decision-test refuses a disabled, model-less or non-System-One row by name; the comboId contract (recursion only) is documented. - The dashboard derives both selectors from one normalized decisionModel, and the model route list no longer rebuilds on every keystroke. - Docs: decision-method preservation on PUT is described as a pair; README anchor; tr/vi fail-open wording.

Clear the running probe when selection cleanup cancels it.
Start a test for selection A, switch to selection B before it finishes, then return to selection A. Line 83 restores A's retained running result. Line 278 then disables Test.
The cleanup aborts A's request but leaves probe unchanged. The abort checks at Lines 128, 133, and 146 prevent that request from replacing the running result. A therefore remains marked as running even though no request is active.
When cleanup aborts a probe, clear its running result for that selection key. Preserve completed results if returning to a previous selection should display them. Add a regression test for the A → B → A sequence and assert that Test becomes enabled again.

Update the selection cleanup in the effect keyed by selectionKey to clear the
retained running probe result for the selection whose request it aborts, while
preserving completed results. Ensure switching A → B → A leaves Test enabled
when A’s probe was cancelled, and add a regression test for that sequence.

Describe the selected backend as the destination for operator notes.
The sentence “The note reaches TypeSafe” retains the old TypeSafe-only contract. With a System One or model decision method selected, the notes accompany the decision state sent to that backend. This document already describes the shared state at Lines 35–36, and gui/src/i18n/zh.ts Line 2936 identifies the selected decision service as the destination.
Replace the destination statement with: “The note reaches the selected decision backend with each applicable decision, so operators must keep secrets and private paths out of it.” This keeps the disclosure accurate for self-hosted and model-backed decisions.
As per coding guidelines, a structure document states “the contract that holds right now, in the present tense.”

Update the operator-note destination statement in the decision-provider contract
to identify the selected decision backend, not TypeSafe alone, as receiving
notes with each applicable decision; keep the contract in present tense and
retain the warning not to include secrets or private paths.

Summary
A JEV combo could only ask a System One endpoint which target and reasoning effort should take the next call. Self-hosted decision servers were hard to reach (#6268), and an ordinary model could not make the choice at all. This PR turns the decision transport into a decision method with three backends, chosen per combo:
decisionProvider: "jev"typesafetev1, Laya MLX, …)decisionProvider: "<jev-decision row>"systemonedecisionModel: "<route>", e.g.ollama/qwen3:4bmodelstrategy: "jev"combos need no change, and TypeSafe request bytes are pinned by a golden fixture taken fromdev.decisionTimeoutMs(default 4000, 1000–120000), 64 KiB request/response bounds, caller cancellation, and fail-open to the first eligible target.jevjev-decisionrow sends only its own key. TypeSafe environment keys go only to the official TypeSafe URL. Loopback cleartext needs the row's explicitallowPrivateNetwork./v1/responsesturn withtools: [], its own send budget and turn lease, and explicit null caller credentials, with no caller headers or history. It uses only credentials stored on the selected provider. A decision model cannot resolve to its own combo, any JEV combo, or ajev-decisionrow; save-time validation enforces this and the runtime refuses JEV reentry.ocx combo set --decision-model <route|->,ocx combo test, ocx combo discover.decisionModelon combo PUT/POST,POST /api/combos/decision-test(one synthetic probe), andGET /api/combos/decision-discovery(read-only hints).unknown.decisionModel), CLI reference, andstructure/providers-and-adapters.md.Not included: the level/quota mode from #6348, which can rebase onto the backend seam, plus a
