Summary

  • preserve both evidenced v2 history hash semantics across replay, drift detection, validation, repair, and deterministic history union while keeping the public writer contract stable
  • add loss-aware merge receipt inspection and reporting to the public SDK, then keep CLI and runtime adapters thin and fail closed when evidence is malformed or its clone-local source cannot be resolved
  • refuse history unions when deterministic reanchoring would skip a branch patch effect instead of publishing a hash-valid but semantically incomplete stream
  • refresh the compatible action/toolchain dependency set, document the contracts, and regenerate the changelog with pm-changelog 2026.8.31

PM items

  • pm-2qahia — dual-v2 history verification, repair compatibility, and lossless union enforcement
  • pm-baksix — loss-aware receipt evidence contracts and clone-local resolution proof
  • pm-k47gdd — compatible dependency and action refresh

Verification

  • full repository coverage: 590 files, 8,170 tests, exact 60,389/60,389 statements, 45,571/45,571 branches, 12,563/12,563 functions, and 58,148/58,148 lines
  • complete pnpm quality:static assurance pipeline
  • all linked PM test suites for the delivery items
  • manual temporary-workspace CLI acceptance: outside Git reports clone_local_evidence_resolved=false, complete=false, and exit 1; an initialized Git workspace with no receipts reports resolution true and completeness true
  • pm health --check-only: all ten health domains green
  • pm validate --check-resolution --check-history-drift: 2,609 items, zero history drift and zero version skew
  • pnpm audit: zero vulnerabilities across 423 dependencies
  • Trivy filesystem vulnerability, secret, and misconfiguration scan: zero HIGH/CRITICAL findings
  • repository credential scan, ShellCheck, PSScriptAnalyzer, actionlint, CodeQL, and hosted mandatory gates
  • packed public SDK import smoke test and installed npm/Bun consumer acceptance

Compatibility and release notes

  • the receipt resolution field is optional at the TypeScript interface boundary for structural compatibility, but current implementations always emit it and loss-aware completion requires it to be exactly true
  • TypeScript 7 and npm-package-arg 14 remain intentionally deferred in their existing canonical PM items because their current peer/runtime requirements conflict with the published support envelope; no duplicate PM items were created
  • v2026.8.31 was already published by the once-per-day automatic release for the original delivery; this exact-head review remediation remains eligible for the next automatic daily release and does not create a second automatic release today

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to c45bf

This PR adds loss-aware merge evidence and dual history-hash handling, but the merge path can publish merged output before its receipt is durably written; an interruption may therefore leave an artifact whose later evidence report appears complete despite missing provenance. Caller-scoped local evidence and unlinked receipt provenance add bounded integrity and security concerns, so merge should wait for this gap to be fixed or explicitly accepted.

Preserve both historical epoch-2 hash writer semantics throughout verification, replay, drift detection, current-document comparison, repair, and merge reanchoring.
  • Add verification candidates for expanded and legacy epoch-2 canonicalization, including legacy dependency, test, provenance, workspace, and execution-receipt handling.
  • Require a consistent semantic hash variant across each history chain while selecting the variant matching the current chain head.
  • Make drift caches version-aware and repair candidate-aware so valid legacy epoch-2 histories are not falsely flagged or reconciled.
  • Allow merged suffixes from either epoch-2 writer but emit one continuous hash surface for the synthesized stream.

Greptile Summary

The PR makes history verification and merge evidence loss-aware while preserving compatibility with both historical epoch-2 hash surfaces.

  • Verifies, repairs, and re-anchors history using the evidenced epoch-2 hash semantics.
  • Forces deterministic history unions onto one continuous hash surface and refuses unions that would skip patch effects.
  • Adds public SDK, runtime, and CLI reporting for malformed or unavailable merge-receipt evidence.
  • Refreshes compatible tooling and pinned CI actions.

Confidence Score: 5/5

The PR appears safe to merge.

No blocking failure remains.

Compare corresponding hash candidates before reconciliation.

A legacy epoch-2 stream can match candidate index 1 while candidate index 0 differs only in legacy-excluded fields. matchedChainBefore then reports a match, but this comparison still sets reconcileNeeded to true. The repair writes an unnecessary reconciliation entry to a semantically matched history stream.

candidate index 0 differs in legacy-excluded fields, preventing an unnecessary
reconciliation entry.

Comment thread src/sdk/merge/receipts.ts Resolved
Keep one epoch-2 hash surface for newly synthesized union histories, compare corresponding verification candidates during repair, and cover mixed-writer suffixes and legacy candidate matches.

Also align merge evidence documentation and fixtures with their filtering contract, record review evidence in PM, and retain exact 100 percent coverage and static quality gates.

Acknowledged. The walkthrough accurately captures the delivery. The reported docstring heuristic is now superseded by the exact-head repository gate: source, exported, and member docstrings are each 100%, and the full static suite passes at d738279.

@unbraind I will perform a full review of PR #1165 at exact head c45bfa5e9c6dc69eb6967d26447b38ef3ceb5638.

Learning: In unbraind/pm-cli, public SDK and MCP APIs use an explicit `cwd` parameter as a documented workspace selector for multi-project use. This parameter is not constrained relative to `process.cwd()`, because no path-scoped authorization root exists in this contract. For merge receipt reads in `src/sdk/merge/receipts.ts`, security review should evaluate validation of the resolved Git/tracker receipt roots and bounded no-follow receipt-file access, rather than require `cwd` containment under `process.cwd()`.

Learning: In `src/sdk/merge/receipts.ts`, `readReceiptsFromDirectory` must treat only an exact `ENOENT` result as an absent receipt directory. It must count `ENOTDIR`, `EACCES`, and other directory-enumeration failures as invalid evidence so `runMergeReceiptEvidenceReport` reports `ok: false` and `complete: false`.

Learning: In unbraind/pm-cli, `pnpm changelog:pm:check` can differ between a PR branch and the hosted merge result when `main` has a same-day release commit. The tag-aware pm-changelog output must be regenerated after merging current `main` before validating the check.

Learnt from: unbraind

Timestamp: 2026-08-31T09:51:29.164Z
Learning: In `src/sdk/merge/receipts.ts`, clone-local Git receipt-directory resolution failure is distinct from an absent receipt directory. Public merge receipt evidence scan and report contracts must represent that resolution failure explicitly. `runMergeReceiptEvidenceReport` must set `ok` and `complete` to `false` for that failure without increasing `invalid_evidence_count`, which counts rejected receipt candidates only.

Acknowledged. This exact-head invocation completed and produced two valid contract-consistency findings; both are now fixed and verified.

Document clone-local evidence resolution as a prerequisite for successful and complete receipt reports.

Keep CLI report fixtures structurally faithful to the always-emitted SDK field and record the exact-head review remediation in the canonical PM history.

@unbraind I will perform a fresh full review of PR #1165 at exact head 100fdc739.

I will re-check the prior receipt-report contract findings and the history and merge-evidence changes. I will consider the reported focused tests, quality:static, full coverage, and PM acceptance.

Disposition of the edited CodeRabbit risk summary: the receipt-ordering concern is not a merge-success escape. Git supplies %A as the merge-driver output path, and runMergeDriver does not return success until writeMergeReceipt completes. A receipt-write error rejects the driver, the CLI exits nonzero, and Git retains the path as unmerged; no successful merge is published. Cross-filesystem atomicity between Git’s temporary output and clone-local/durable receipt stores is impossible, so reversing the order would merely exchange a failed merge with a stale receipt. Current fail-closed behavior is the correct protocol boundary, and the exact-head CI, security, and recovery gates cover it.
